Already two fires here in the Flagstaff region, close to town. Fortunately, crews contained them quickly. With these winds, it won’t take much for a fire to make a run. It’s dry, dry, dry out there! Careful out there during your turkey hunts!

Doesn’t look like it. The Arizona Department of Transportation in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration is improving the roadway along a 22-mile stretch of State Route 260 between Rim Road and Gibson Road (mileposts 282-304). The project includes constructing a 5-foot shoulder on both sides of the roadway, extending and improving drainage facilities, guardrail improvements, spot pavement repairs and restriping of the roadway. The purpose of this project is to improve safety by increasing shoulder width of the existing roadway.

Wow, close! Stay safe!

Yeah, if it keeps going NE, it’ll run out of the fine fuels and hit the cinders and hopefully settle down. Unfortunately, there are a lot of houses in between. I have friends on the east side of 89A evacuated around 1pm.

Not my pic. From Coconino NF Twitter page.

Evacuation notices for neighborhoods west of 89A. Fire from Sunday has flared up and winds gusting to 45-50mph. Air attack under way, Tanker 105 out of Winslow.

This was the last hunt proposal under the previous 5 year guidelines, Fall 2018 through Spring 2023. Spring 2024 will fall under the recently approved 5 year guidelines, Fall 2023 through Spring 2028, and Spring bear was included in them. Don’t give up hope. They may return in Spring 2024. 🤞

Stolen from in-laws. I just found out when I opened my mom's gun safe on Monday that several of my deceased father's guns were missing. My Dad died on Jan 31, 2017 and he stole my dad's Franchi 20 g o/u Rennaissance Classic from my mom's house and was trying to sell it here 17 days after my Dad died.

Proposed fall, spring hunt recommendations for 2022-2023 available for review

It was never published, other than total applicants(22,000), not total applications. But we can do some math to get an “estimate”. ****This is pure speculation and guessing. I can’t back up my numbers without knowing how many total applications were submitted, not applicants.***** But we can at least get an idea what the POTENTIAL revenue is with these limited entry tags if they use them like last time as a raffle. Soooooo… 22,000 applicants. 6 total tags. $13 application fee for EACH tag. If everyone only applied for 1 tag we get: 22,000 x $13= $286K Lets say the average was 3 applied tags per applicant: 22,000 x $39= $858K Lets assume all applicants applied for all 6 tags(highly unlikely): 22,000 x $78= $1.7M This is a rough estimate(guess)because we don’t really know how many tags each applicant applied for. Plus Non-residents paid $15 for their app fee. About the only number that might be close is the $286K, which represents the 22,000 applicants with at least one application. -

A little early on the roads as most are still in seasonal closure mode. They should start to open up in the next few weeks. At least you got a lay of the land. Keep at it and you’ll start to get an idea of your plan. Check this link for road closures. https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/coconino/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5339811

Proposed fall, spring hunt recommendations for 2022-2023 available for review

Yes, that’s what I said. It was a test balloon and proved to be successful. So much so, they added two more species and 17 more tags. They will use Commission Order 30 to help with any revenue shortfalls. Look for these limited entry raffles to continue. As they stated very bluntly: The objective is to generate revenue in order to maintain current operations and limit or eliminate the need to increase license and hunt permit-tag fees. -
Wish they’d open the gate to Ashurst!

That special raffle they did this past Fall with those six tags proved to be a success. I believe they will pivot to that to cover any revenue shortfalls. They almost made up that $1M with just six tags.
