I heard a couple bugles this morning before I left for work. As stated above, they're winding down the rut and will begin heading to sanctuary areas. Bet you see some later, closer to your hunt. Keep scouting. Good luck!

WTF?

I have Verizon, my brother AT&T. When we’re out hunting, I always have service and he is either without, or maybe 1 bar. No way I’d switch.
-
There was a spam post that brought it to the top. I saw it this morning. It must have been deleted after you posted.

Check with your insurance. They may not cover any accidents if driven/towed by individuals not on your policy.

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like my first elk hunt. Haha. It’s definitely a learning curve trying to avoid all the cow elk eyes! Just when you think you have them all spotted, a lone cow will appear outta nowhere, staring at you. Just keep at it. One thing I would suggest and it’s just a personal opinion, but practice shooting with your pack on. I noticed in your writeup you mentioned taking your pack off during every stalk. You even mentioned in Day 2 getting busted doing this. One less movement to worry about by keeping it on. Hopefully another tag is in your future. Good luck!

Good report. Been wondering how things have been going. Good luck next weekend!

Going to be a warm opener.

I’ve been checked a couple times. Guess I’m lucky. Once for antelope, twice for elk, once for turkey, dove and quail. Always enjoy chatting with the WM.

Incredible! Congrats!

Im up at 430 for work. Haven't heard anything yet. Usually a couple bulls right behind the house are the first ones I hear. Should be soon tho.

Dont think it was actually I-10. Appears to be detour lanes during construction. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-08-24/flash-flooding-washes-out-eastbound-interstate-10-near-california-arizona-border

I've been looking at the Northridge. Can't decide if I should go with the other offerings tho. lol

Would be interesting to see the data after this season. How many first time ever license/OTC tag holders were successful? What was their median age? How soon did they report after opening morning/day? And finally: Which unit had the highest percentage of this demographic?
-
It was just a random observation I noticed that probably means nothing. I’d imagine it’s because the amount of hunters is >125. That’s good info you provided tho.
-
Dang, GMU 1 is at 40% already and it’s only Sat afternoon. Probably be the first unit to close.
-
Im sure there will be a lot of people out now with the “race to tag out” before the unit closes. It’s a whole new dynamic. I rarely went out in August due to the heat, but feel I better get a few days in now. Doubt the unit I’m hunting(very low quota) will ever see a January hunt again.
-
So the rule is we have up to 48 hours to report. Yet this morning, not 2 hours after sunrise, the counts were coming in. WTF? Have we become that brainwashed and addicted to our phones? It’s like a race now. Doesn’t matter that the unit wouldn’t close until Wednesday anyway, but by golly, while my deer bakes in the warm August sun, I’m gonna log into the website and submit my report!

PETA members calling them in to get units closed.

haha

They call. You’ll have to pay for the tag during the call.
-
I won’t get a tag, but I took that statement as “we don’t know what day, but it’ll be this week”. No biggie really.
-
Hopefully get a call this week! From their press release: Applicants who draw a limited-entry permit-tag will be contacted by the department during the week of Aug. 15

The squatters and homeless have overtaken the forest around Flagstaff. I have no problem with the 2 week rule.
