Thanks for all the replies, it's been fun to read. I kind of figure that either place sucks weather wise compared to having been born and raised in Arizona.....A buddy I work with is from Kansas and when I asked him about moving back there to live he has one phrase he always says...."No matter how hot it gets here, you'll never have to shovel sunshine!" I've got a wife and 3, soon to be 4 kids, so we're trying to weigh all the pros and cons of each place and hunting had some weight in the discussion!

I've only killed coues with 6mm and .243, two with each gun. 450 was the furthest shot and it took 2. Both are good guns.

Giant Coues ****B&C Score updated*****
nohoch replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Unreal!!! What a stud buck! A couple buddies told me about it but seeing it blew away their descriptions! Congrats. -
Info-----what did he score?
-
We'll be up there as well. Dad is hunting in 27 and brother in Unit 1. Good luck to everyone.

Awesome! What a day that must have been. Congrats.

Berger VLD exit wound!!!
nohoch replied to kaibabkiller's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Buddy I was hunting with was using a .270 short mag with 150 gr. Berger bullet and it wasn't near what the pic above shows but it left the largest exit wound I have personally seen. Those Berger bullets will do some damage. It didn't help that he was shooting the buck from 50 yards either though... -
I'm afraid I'm going to be worthless this week for my employerer. I'm sitting here reading posts and can't stop thinking about this Friday and hoping the buck I've been watching is still in his usual spot on opening morning. I'd be curious to know how much work production decreases the week that a hunt opens up as I'm sure I'm not the only one going through the motions this week!

Still dreaming about opening morning.....16 more hours of work and then it's time to head out!

The Rut-n-hard link that Game and Fish provides says that it is a bull from Utah and is the new Utah state records....."taken by Bruce Treadway of Monohans. The bull was a 9x13"

Great video. -
I'd say he'd score a lot! More than probably all the Coues deer I'll ever kill combined...
-
Awesome! Great write up. Some of those pics make it look like you took a professional photographer with you on your hunt. Thanks for sharing and congrats. Beautiful country.
-
Great write up Lance. Congrats on the great bulls and 3 of them at that. Good to see a fellow Thatcher hunter gettin the job done! Greg Martin
-
Congrats. Nice bull.

I've been following this thread with anticipation each morning as I turn my computer on at work....best part of my day, sadly. That Billy Madison video post was awesome! Couldn't sum up this thread any better than what he said. Now, we're all waiting for "the rest of the story"......
-
Awesome. Congrats on a great bull and great write up as well.
-
Some good looking bucks. Good luck.
-
Congrats. Tough first post to beat.
-
Glad you posted that....I have to be one of the only ones left who had never seen that pic. Nice bull at least.
-
That's awesome. Congrats. Reading these stories each year during the bow hunt gets me juiced up for my rifle hunt (and makes me want to start bow hunting!). Nice buck.

How do I scout for my october 24b hunt?
nohoch replied to WISH I was on the MOUNTAIN's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
There are no bucks in 24B....... I've been searching that unit for years now and let me tell you, it's empty. Sorry for your luck drawing that tag I've got the early Oct hunt there as well. Just get out and beat the bushes. There are plenty of deer all over that unit. -
I'll go hike for days looking for these grey ghosts and not find them and you have them coming to your house! I've got to be doing something wrong...

Again, you've taken some increadible photos. Thanks for posting these and all the others that you do. They are great photos.
