Today I took an old boar hog out of the pack. As you would say "Trophy Management". HAHA. I tryed to get one with the old recurve but we sorta ran into the pigs with the wind at our backs and had to goto plan B. 80 Yards shooting down hill with my old Ruger Vaqeuro in 357 (158grn HP). One shot one kill. And packed him to the truck by 1:45 and had lunch at the Butcher Hook. What a day, we also jump 11 does and 4 bucks.

Played hooky today and went to Roosevelt. Saw 15 mulies, 2 covey of quail, Javelina

My nephew took his first javelina yesterday in 37a. He shot this pig at 12 yards with a 257 roberts. He shot the smaller one so he could pack it out himself, haha. My brother called in a fox and shot him at 150 yards with a 257 roberts. What a great way to start off the year for a new hunter.

Great job on a first pig. He will appreciate it in the long run for putting in the extra effort. Teaching him the skills now will instill a lifetime of oppurtunity. Great Job!

wow, what a dissapointment. What if this happened on the Reservation. More than likely you would have you guns taken away for good big fines, jail time, and possibly even your transportation you used during the crime. What a joke. What do you think the message their trying to convey to everyone who reads this is? Shoot what you want now and if you do get cuaght you can pay the cheap fines.

As for the Whitetail I hope he gets it mounted with the wired still on the head. That would be a great mount.

I have unit 22. My brother has 37a. We have been getting into them every year for 8 years and this year we haven't seen one yet.That was our go to area but now we haven't seen them all month.

I had these little piggies at 10 yards but my hunts starts feb 8th. Saw 2 herds of pigs and 10 carp does and a 20'' 2x2 carp buck that needed to be kulled managment style but his girlfriends weren't done with him and gave me the slip. Overall a great day of scouting and hiking.

I kinda know the feeling. I set a camera up and a salt lick and 3 weeks later i found a tree stand up 25 yards from my site. So I took my camera down before it got taken. I found a Game and Fish live trap this weekend but didn't take it. Because like you we have that thing called respect for other peoples property. Hope you find out who took it.

show me where the bucks are and i'll trade you for a pig spot in 22. I have 3 herds located at this time.

My expectations were high going into this hunt. I felt like I was ripped off after the second day. We saw a Lion the first day and 1 possible shooter buck. Second day we saw one buck that had potential so we packed up to get a better look but he took off. Third day My buddy killed a 95 inch but about 1/4 mile from the truck. After 12 shots later we got him cut up and packed to the truck. Forth day we only saw two spikes and a baby of a 3x3. After running into a young 20's Indian that was varmit calling, we started asking questions about the roads. Why they were so good. He told me they had a members hunt in the same unit last weekend. I was under the impression this was the trophy unit that dosen't get much pressure. Thats why we paid the high tag price. The Lion problem is so bad in there every wash that we hiked through or drove through had tracks in it. We dusted the road in 3 different areas and 2 days later saw lion tracks in all 3 locations. We saw some Javalinas off the Lake road but nowhere else while were were hunting. What a shame for an area to go to heck. The most deer we saw in a day was 7. 3 being bucks. We hunted from morning to all most dark as we drove out every day. We glassed all day to. Needless to say I found out why hardly anyone goes back to the res to hunt deer. My 80 inch buck on the last day was pretty good for not seeing any shooter for 3 days. I got lucky it was on top of the mountian so I could make it down in one trip on my own. here he is. Remington 700 300SAUM 150 yd shot off hand dropped in his traks. I also lost my video cam so sorry don't have any feild photos.

Thanks for the comments. I never gave up on the hunt becuase anything can happen on a coues hunt. My buddy took 12 shots not me but a had a tough time as well I took a 304 yard bedded shot when I should have waited. I got him in the neck and he just got up and walked over the saddle. I ran over their to find the buck and doe staring at me 150 yards. One shot dropped him without a kick. The lion tags were free with the d-west jan tag. But they forgot to put mine in the mail. My buddy got his. I am happy I shot this buck because honestly, this was my hardest hunt ever. thanks for reading.

Hey, If you find the does you will find the bucks. Last year around Roosevelt the mulies weren't rutting until the later part of Dec all the way into the first week into Feb. I have video of a nice 3x3 with a doe Feb 8th this year. He was running her down and holding on to her. Best chance is to spot and stalk or get near the does and you'll get a chance at a buck.
