You can thank the TV show Best of the West. They show guys packing in thier personal rifles away from the horses ,and then there shooting "The Huskimaw" system rifle. making 600-800 yard shots. How many times did they miss that they didn't shoot. I for one hate shows like that becuase they don't preach that you have to shoot all the time. These guys on the show know that particular rifle inside and out. Thats my 2 cents.

Best Offroad/ Hyway tires for Coues Country
Buckhunter replied to Santana Outdoors's topic in Other Hunting Gear
Bridgestone Dueller Revo tires are great for rocky terrain. I have a 1500 dodge 4 door. Got 45k on them -
Thats why I started making my own camera boxes with heavy locks.

I set up a few stands and my buddy Randy made the best of it. Had one buck on the camera and he wacked it last Saturday. 8:30 am 15 yards. Muzzy 3 blade 100 opened him up pretty good.

Went out today and pulled cams and treestands and got some good pics.

I got 3 different bears hitting the one cam with the feeder, They chewed holes up and down the side of the tube. Looks like it got shot up with a 22 cal. Mostly corn or 4-way mix.

Friday morning started rather quickly. My Buddy and Guide Matt Woodward of Borderland Adventures, Also a Sponsor of this site. Put me on 2 Muley Bucks at 6:45am. A 3x4 and a real nice 4x4 over a mile away when we found them. I started to get close to where we last saw them and they were nowhere to be seen. Assuming they already bedded I worked my way up to the top of the hill were it is flat and choked full of mequite and cholla. As I topped out I instantly saw horns poking over the grass. I couldn't beleave it, Both bucks were bedded at 45 yards. The 4 point was in the brush and th 3x4 was bedded in the open. I spent 30 mins at 44 yards waiting to the 4 point to move. But when I wasn't paying attention he got up and walked right through the opening and bedded in even thicker brush. I clipped my release and drew back. 3x4 stood up and started scratching his face with his back hoof. As soon as he put it down I sent a 100grn 4 blade muzzy through his shoulders. He went all of 30 yards and crashed. The 4 point bolted straight away from me giving me another look at a fantastic Desert muley rack. After a short pack out we were at camp cutting and quartering this big bodied mule deer. Later that night we had Tenderloins on the woodfire grill in the backyard. Could have been any better. Thanks again to Matt with Borderland Adventures for an awsome hunt. Will post field photos later, were on another camera.

Thats a cool pic. Back when hunting was simple. No expensive camo, gadgets, and custom guns. Just two good dogs and a good time.

Awsome job. That is one really nice mt. lion mount. Most taxidermist don't get the face right. Just waiting for mine. Looks like you got your lion mount in a reasonable time, unlike someone elses cat. Nice job

Mule deer tend to rut later in the year in lower elevations. You should be right at the begining of the rut up there, good luck.

Sitting in my stand and at 6:50 am this guy rolls up to my stand and sniffs the ladder on my stand while I take pics of him. I wanted to smoke this guy with a bow but I already got one this year. No bucks came in, these deer don't ever come in on Fridays. I think they know something is up.
-
He walked in and sniffed around about 5 mins. Then I told him to leave, He wasn't getting a free snack from me, and boogering any deer in the process. I don't think he spooked any deer off, they come and go, I've got another bear coming in every 4-5 days.
