CNS, i think scoutin for this one is gonna be more of a home away from home than field trip. Im gonna go broke just on scoutin. Now if i could just put an end to this whole having to work problem!

I can't see any realistic difference between the 270 and 280. Your 270 and a 150 Partition or TSX will work fine if you are uncomfortable about borrowing the 300. You get to hunt with a rifle that you are familiar with and one that has less recoil leading to better shot placement. You can see what kind of shot distances you will have on your scouting trips. THe 270 with a 150 Nosler is not much diff at 500 yards from a 300 with a 180 Nosler http://federalammo.com/ballistics/Ammo_Sea...earm=1&s1=1 Well im gettin better input that i guessed. I understand the ballistic similarities, only think i was considering is the actual delivery of KE, Rather than just the fact of putting the hole where i want it. as we all know it can get windy in that country to so thats another issue. Heck depending on the end of my scouting i may end up takin the bowtech.... depends how confident i am in gettin in on em. Then again with most of that country, even after the shot, visiblilty is pretty good compared to typical elk country for the most part and would probably see the elk go down if it did cover a bit of ground after the shot. Then again i always wanted a nice 300 winny....

The best part is only dealin with 9 other tags. i spend most of my bear time in there and the bulls if ya get away are amazing! i can see the need for the 300 thats why i brought it up, gettin close has rarely been my problem but im gonna run into the same problem as with coues, not so much the animal needin the long shot but the country. Glassin up a 350 plus 600yds away at almost sunset would kill me. Plan on gettin out every day off ive got maybe shed hunt the area a bit. im pretty sure where the other nine will hunt and im gonna be no where near there. but i am really thinkin about the 300 maybe ill just blow some money.

I agree with shot placement but the fact could be argued for a 17hmr for that matter. In one of capsticks books he mentions two guys that killed and elephant with a 22lr then later another to prove they did it. Shot placement was right but duplicating that might cause one to become elephant toe jam. I think the 30 cal is definatley the best choice but i prefer shots under 100yds a can usually accomplish that with elk and at that range, hands down i have no issue, its the pushin 300yds. Just lookin for some good ole' controversial opinions. I have access to a .280 and .300winny but just really hate takin someone elses gun out and all my money is goin to scoutin gas.

Well since i actually drew the 21 tag im gonna try for the late october Coues tag in 21. that way my scouting works twice as much for me if i draw it. with the october hunt it will give me a bit of a break before my elk hunt to really focus on the particular bull, assuming i find one in particular, and what he does after the rut. So im plannin on makin it work better for me, maybe run into a bear while im out babysittin deer and elk too

i almost flipped when i wrote my hunt number down and then cross-checked it with the regs and it was some cow multi unit hunt and i know i didnt enter any cow hunt. FIVE POINTS FOR A COW??!!! WTH!? so i pulled it up again and i looked at 3035 instead of 3025. made all the difference.....whew bout ended it all there.

well i guess i gotta change my signature.... the draw gods have smiled on me and givin me my 21 late bull tag! whoooooooohooooooooo it was worth the wait! my next years booked. looks like ill be tryin for a 21 whitey tag to, make my scouting work double for me. no speedgoat, ah well it would only cut into my bull babysittin.

guess ya posted that while i was typin. so i to be in max for that unit based on the past i guess i should be prayin no one with more points than i have is applyin for that unit. thanks alot for that info!

I know its entirely possible, i really phrased that wrong. I drew 6a archery bull and 19a pronghorn same year with just my hunter ed point. nothin since then. but by lookin at the odds i figured i oughtta have a heck of a chance at it. course my logic could be of. i would assume most whom go for it typically would still want the early hunt. i dont wanna hunt when its 90 out and six miles from a road. id rather glass and stalk and have friendly pack out weather for the meat. but spent way to much time up there last two years and right now would take that tag over any other out there. unfortunately no archery tag in there. i guess i was curious if there are gung ho 21ers out there puttin in with eight or nine points.

anyone with knowledge on the draw and points standings for each unit think its at all entirely possible to draw a late 21 tag, 10 tags, with five points? best i could see in previous years 120 average went for 5 tags in a sept hunt, now its 5 on an october and ten late nov. i figure most will go for the early hunt but who with 5 points goes for that tag unless they specifically know a bull in there.

i quit, im not even lookin no more. Im just going to prematurely accept that someone else got my bull tag and who cares about speedgoats. this is ridiculous. at least if i quit now by choice it wont be so heart breaking come when the results are posted

when i call i get the draw results are not available. theyve got to be close based on last year. i find it really hard to believe that they are actually gonna wait until friday to post em, but then again it makes a bit of sense....i hope not im starting to dream that i drew my tag, i cant handle this much longer!!!!

Just called, its definately changed, wearin out BPS's phone over here. Cannot enter your info at all now, just results not available, which is different again from just 5 min ago. Somethings goin on. It now states when the deadline for elk and pronghorn was, not spring draw.

strange five minutes ago i got "the draw results are not yet available"

my vote is for monday am. but thats just cuz this friday at five was not listed......the recording is changing its close. Aint bringin up spring draw anymore. see if they post it tonight right at closed hours before the weekend they dont gotta deal with tons of folks callin freakin out that they screwed up and complaining. course they could always post next friday under that hypothesis.
