    While in the woods/desert

I had to vote snakes/other people. Theres some freaky people in the back country at time and i dont trust em. as for snakes i love em to death but ive had tons of close calls and seen some that just happened...not fun. everything else tries to avoid us for the most part and rattlesnakes dont run they just hide if ya cant see, hear, smell somthin till your on top of it you could be in trouble. Never had a close call with anything else but 1 bear and he was just curious. Cats usually get the he11 out of the country if ya do see em. and bearbait........comeon i think that bear the other day had you a little edgy, pretty sure of it, but at least ya didnt break another ankle cuz that bear'd a been a bit fatter for fall.
  6. It just takes one!! 14000 applicants for 90 tags 13910 unsuccessful applicants @ $5 a head = $69,550 just to tell you all that I got a tag! Priceless Its actually 7.50 a head making the number a nice $104,325. Its amazing what $2.50 can do.

    Some Cam pics for yall.

He would be for sure in a lot of hunts but ive got some faith in my tag, considering some of the bulls ive seen. I just Think hes lacking mass and his top might not turn out good, i think heck go over 350...well see how he ends up i think 380 is possible in here ill just have to do more homework, he is pretty though.
  9. Alright, pulled my trail cam today. Didnt figure id get bull pics this low but set it for bears on some water i found. Got a few Coues bucks, ton of does, little spotted skunk, fox and apparently a squirrel lives really close. So what everyone think of this bull? i know hes got some time to grow and i do have the tag but outta curiosity im lookin for some opinions, even though some is out of the picture. hes been in at least 3 different days but this is the only antler pic, That moultrie is startin to bug me not takin many night pics with the flash.

    Trail Cam Help

Ive got a Moultrie D-40 and the pic quality is great, trigger time is good but i do have it on water but have caught birds in flight. I am changin it for a I-40 which runs about 220 er so. Mine uses the flash at night once in about every 15 pictures and always uses it evening and morning and washes out pics. Ive been checkin it every week and average 20-40 pictures per week minus the birds and "ed" the squirrel. If you got elk hittin the water they should come in often one bull ive just recently got comes in every evening about 7pm and every morning about 4am. good luck.

    Some Cam pics for yall.

The exact location of the "Blue rocks" is half way down the canyon 100 yards south of the oak flat between the mesa and the round hill This is the only bull that came in but there is another canyon just north of here that im pretty sure has the same type of spring in it, im gonna check it out tommorrow. This is actually where there is not supposed to really be elk, the unit has em obviously but not supposed to be this far south, i imagine he'll move come rut but im pretty sure on where he will go. I do know where alot of the cows are. I was actually told about this bull being in here and last seen two years ago supposedly about 380". Pretty sure its him but he looks old and possibly on a downward spiral. theres a nice whitetail that i cant seem to find the pic of right now thats about 3-4" up and lookin like heck have some mass.

    contest idea.....

I like the category idea. Anyone know a good spot to find some thiefs & smugglers? Metro-center parking lot maybe? Metro center would be bad and good. depends on if the camera is still there when ya check it.....unlike my truck a few years ago.

    1st trail cam pics...

Well if theres no night pics by monday im pullin it and exchanging it.
  18. So ive finally got my trail cam out to a hole i found, saw alot of lion track and deer track on it so i figured what the heck. Turns out my camera love to take pictures of birds....even got a falcon or small hawk in one. It also didnt take any night pictures, which is unfortunate because 5 new sets of bear tracks showed up and i managed to get the smallest ones picture. Pretty lil cinnamon though. Few whitetail does, just repositioned the camera well see how it turns out by next week i think the water will be gone. For those with experience, how do you deal with the bird pictures? i also really couldnt get the camera any closer, but i think its new location may work better. Using a moultrie 4.0 with a 1 sec trigger and a flash. One last strange thing. i have a picture two consecutive pictures minutes apart and one has a bird the next shows new track and muddy water but nothin was caught going into the water, but the ripples and mud are still there. any ideas?

    1st trail cam pics...

DB, I saw on your other post you mentioned the D40 was your least favorite. This is the M40 which just has a few up grades. Funny thing is if i set it up at home at night my dog sets it off out to quite a distance. First time i set it i only got night pics but the flash only worked on a few. This time no night pics and i think the bucks and most likely the other bears are coming in at night. Also had a few early am and late pm where the flash went off and whited out the pic. Did you talk to moultrie at all or exchange it or anything? I may upgrade it to the i40 or the i60. Also im workin on my work lettin me take our demo's out and try each and everyone, as they want photos to show what each camera is like.

    1st trail cam pics...

Thanks... i would have considered the bird in the water but the second picture clearly shows a new set of tracks from the previous one a minute old, you can see the mudd/dirt broken up.... i just didnt know bout this pic till i was home and there were a mix of deer and bear in that corner.

    Unit 22S Bear scouting package

Thanks Friend, I knew I was doing something wrong! I second the checking water. I set up a trail cam on a tank last monday that had only cat and deer sign. today there was 5 different sets of bear that i could make out and possibly more from cubs to a big un. even got a skinny cinnamon on camera. focus on water and 22s is a heck of a unit to hunt, it can be tough, i have alot better luck in some of the other units. but i think i found a honey hole this time. Find somewhere way back with canyons of manzanita and prickly pear and mesa flats full of juniper and acorn/oaks. right now look for sign and get familiar with the country. youll find em eventually. BTW, ive been scouting under 4000ft elevation. so they aint all high.

RIP UP THOSE AZG&F SURVEY CARDS!!!!

Check in stations are not the answer They can not fund checkins and If they tell me I have to spend another $50.00 bucks to drive to Mesa to have my Deer checked, It AINT happen'n I will give it to Amanda for the site first. On line mandatory survey There are always volunteers or college grads that want to get in with game and fish that typically will take whatever opportunities are offered. Easy way to solve funding and probably enough man power to where check ins could be conveniently located. Ill bet the surveys have a decent cost to them also.

RIP UP THOSE AZG&F SURVEY CARDS!!!!

Here is my opinion. Bear and lion is mandatory check in, so they can pull the tooth. There is still problems with dishonest people whether the survey is mandatory or optional, online or on paper. So heck, Make it mandatory check in. they can get 100% perfect numbers with the exception of a few whom may ignore it....not a good idea by the way, i know i guy who tried it with bear and my buddy who took him didnt let that fly... So they have perfect numbers, They can even pull a tooth and get more information from that along with anything else they want. They can compile information on mature deer and average size from particular units. heck how many of us would like to know how old the deer was? I think it would be better for game and fish....assuming they care a bout proper information an even more indepth information...and it would be good for us, assuming the information is used properly. i know dang well i wouldnt mind bringin my buck somewhere for a check in.

    Badlands packs

Ive got an older...probaby 7 years old....2200. I absolutely love it. ive fit whole whitetails quartered in it. Pigs gutted, some quartered. Carry huge 16x60 pentax and an old velbon tripod with all my other stuff and can usually manage all my meat on deer sized game around it. i like alot of things about the new 2200 but have my inhibitions on gettin a new one too, cuz i love mine so much. Ive never sent it in but it needs it. Used to just have a girl sew it up but due to circumstances, i may have to send it in. I cant say i have tried a pack i like more, just takes some time figuring out how to pack it all right. I can say my next pack is a 2800, love the pistol holsters and cant wait to get it for my upcoming backpack elk hunt.
