I have checked with five other taxidermists, and most said no or were very reluctant to try. Three out of the five recommended a lady in AJ by the name of Christina Boggs.
You can see her work on Facebook. She has done some beautiful work on Bobcats.
I was using a Fox-Pro E-Caller. I had started my morning making distress calls for coyotes with no luck and switched to Bobcats for a couple of hours with no luck.
Then, I switched to mountain lion calls. Fox-Pro has a call for lion in heat, and I thought I would give it a try. After about thirty minutes, this Tom made it to within 100 yards of my call and just hung up, pacing at the edge of this burned-out aspen patch. When he stopped, I lined up the shot and took it.
I am a prideful man, but I swallow my ego and tell you that I was just very lucky as I am very new to calling in any animal, let alone a mountain lion.
By the way, there is a proposal before AZGF to eliminate the use of hunting with hounds for lions and bears. This may soon be the only way anybody would get lucky and harvest a lion.
