I called G&F and found out I got a 24A deer tag (whitetail). I have never hunted this unit, it's not far from Apache Junction so I will be scouting this weekend. Mostly driving roads but some glassing too! Going to give it a try with a Encore pistol in 308 caliber. I carried it last year and had no luck.

Went on a elk hunt in unit #9 and had no luck finding any. I did stay true to the TC pistol, carried it the hole time!

Hunted the east side of the unit. Was camped on the first road that said 225fr. I thought about changing to my rifle but I stayed with my encore 308 pistol. Took a couple shots from camp to check the gun, hit at 300yds. Was happy about that. That was without hiking around. I always want to get closer!!! Didn't see or hear anyone out that way having any luck. Going to try my luck on elk with the pistol, using a 378GNR caliber.

Tried to get a deer, found this to be one of the tuffer hunts. Last 2 days we could find deer but couldn't get close for my pistol, a rifle wouldn't of helped! Had a good time out! I wasn't at work!!!!!

Start with game and fish website! It will help! Do you have binoculars? Save your shoe leather, hike some look more! I cover more ground with binoculars. 10 power is good but 12 to 15 is better for me. I used nikon 12 power when I started. Not rich then or now, but up graded to better when I could afford it. If I'am hunting or just glassing for a friend, it's just fun to do. We make it a social event when glassing. The family can do it, or just take one of your kids. They seem to find stuff, young eyes!!! Scout, scout, and scout some more. I have a tag for that unit also, late oct hunt.

Well I use 15 power for glassing. I use the 15x58 minox, you can look too far with 15 power. In my group I'am not the best glasser, but I do have some pretty good spots on deer javelina, way out there! I was the first to go to this power in the group. We were useing 12x40 stiener and was doing real good with them. Looking thru brush with 15 power you can really pick out things, like parts of an animal. Remember Whats clear to your eyes may not be clear to some one else! Dont pick the brand name, pick the best glass for you!!!! That's important!!!!! Cheaper glass will find game, just know what to look for!!!!!

I will be hunting with 3 other people, that way we can pair up and cover more ground with the binoculars. The hunt dates are Oct 26 to Oct 31. I haven't shot a deer for a while now but have gotten a cow elk the last 2 years. Still got meat in the freezer! Going for 3 for 3. Got an elk last Dec, a javelina in feb or march? Now looking for a deer, deaf, dum and blind would help!!!

I have been looking at cam corders at walmart. Around $400.00 they are small light weight. I'am I wasting my money on these or would they do a good job of recording animals while hunting?
