As a kid growing up, my dads pigfarm had of course, pigs that died every day. We had the "rose garden" where we took all of the dead pigs every day. That was one of the most productive "bait" stands in the country, morning, noon and evening you could go out there and have the chance of catching a bonus dog out there getting a free meal. Never thought twice about it........probably still wouldn't, but I guess technically illegal.... -

How about hunting over dead horses...that obviously fell into an illegal catagory. Was it killing the horses that was illegal, was it killing the bears that was illegal, both??? My boys and I were out looking for coyotes a couple of days ago, did a couple of stands, driving along to our next stand when we see three coyotes bust out, maybe 300-400 yards away from us. The only reason really that we saw them is my 10 year old asked if he could shoot at a crow(illegal??).....and we noticed there was about 30 crow out there, exactly the same spot the coyotes had busted out from. I decided we needed to go take a look, I had a hunch there was a dead cow over there......but low and behold, two dead horses....looked like the rancher had drug them out there, bone yard type of deal.........so if I go shoot coyotes off the dead horses that are laying out there.....is that illegal? I didn't put them there, I didn't shoot the horses........just found a spot that I could get a bonus dog........ -

In addition to attending the meeting, is there any way to contact people who will be talking about this subject matter or voting on the issue? -
You are right about that Amanda, I stood by and watched my boy miss a coyote the other day, it is harder than heck to let them learn while you stand and watch. A few years back my 12 year old had a rifle bull tag, and it was very difficult to let him take the shots by himself.....but that is what makes it so dang fun.....

My boy showed me a group he shot before he gave it to Santa.......three shots covered with a dime.....and it he claims he jerked on the third shot, the first two rounds were touching each other and the third was about 1/4" to the right. I haven't put it on paper myself yet, I can't hold it that still anyway. Course, with the bullet being so dang small you would hope you could cover it with a dime, but I was very happy with the way it performed... My 10 year old shot it several times and asked if he could use it for javelina, he just loved the gun......is it legal for the little pigs?? -
What about the Rez line.....I was hunting archery bull a few years back, hunting right on the fence line....had a bull come across the fence about 30 yards, I was scared to death of putting an arrow in him and then having to go retrieve him on the reservation.....I guess if I was so worried about it I should have gotten further away from the d@mn fence line...

Tony.....in response to the little gadget that makes a noise like a corn feeder.......we had an old John Deere tractor on the pig farm....it pulled the feed wagon used to hand feed all the breeding stock. That place went wild every time that old tractor started up.....it didn't matter what time of day it was those hogs thought t hey were going to get fed. You could hear that pigfarm for miles...... So it doesn't surprise me one bit that a gadget like that would work....ethics wise....I use a rabbit in distress call to call coyotes...and sometimes those dogs come in like mad dogs....but like it was said earlier....the slope is definitely slippery... -

Didn't know really where to post it, but it is snowing and I am out the door headed to Alpine for a week. Plan on looking for some yotes, maybe a cat if we can get lucky, but mostly, enjoying the beautiful winter wonderland. Has been about 8 years since we have gone up there and there was actually any snow to play in.....everybody have a Merry Christmas and Happy Hunting New Year........ -

"If all of the houses went into foreclosure the rest of us that have no problems with our motgages would be the ones suffering with collapsing property values." But what brought all of this on??? Was it people hedging on the house market? Are these people who needed a house cause they moved into the area because that is where they found work? Were people a little bit greedy with the house market? Did banks take advantage of people offering something that wasn't really there? I really don't know the specifics, been relying on the news way too much, but looks to me that sooner or later the Gov. will get their hands in the middle of it....JMO -

I think it has as much to do with getting out in nature and listening to the sounds, seeing the wonders, finding a dead deer that got killed by a lion and knowing that it was the way nature intended. Getting stuck in the snow or mud and having to figure out how you are going to get out cause you know nobody else is going to be there for at least the next day. Knowing that dad is going to chew your butt off for getting stuck in the first place. Having to use a pinecone or a broadleaf to clean your butt off cause there is nothing else around. Harvesting an animal and putting the meat to use as opposed to buying it off the shelf without even realizing that it is a dead animal even if it was bought in the grocery store. Lots of examples of why people are so out of touch, in my opinion with reality. Reality for me is that Phoenix, and big cities like it control the majority of the votes, and we are fighting a tough battle to hang on to the rural way of life. Packing guns is just one of them...... I despise the fact that my tax dollars, insurance money....goes to underinsured, uninsured, smoking, drinking, sexually oriented diseases, people who bought expensive houses and now can't pay the payment..........on and on........I'm kind of having a hard time making ends meet....wonder if we can get a bill passed to help me make it through Christmas -

And I am not liking where that road is headed......spent some time in Norway, went into a couple of State hospitals there. Not a pretty site......very socialistic country in the way it handles taxes, medical care etc.....but.....I saw a list of top countries to live in and Norway was ranked #2 on the list.....obviously they haven't spent a winter there and never been stuck in a hospital there..... -
How old is old enough to hunt?
Non-Typical Solutions replied to SilentButDeadly's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
A couple of lessons that dad(me) and my boys learned quick and fast. 1. If you let a two year old shoot a Ruger Mark VI.....the action will probably smack him right in the forehead 2. If you let a 5 year old shoot the .270 with a scope, he is probably going to get dinged on the melon with a least a half moon scope scar. Four boys......four scars....... 3. If you take a 5 year old out quail hunting, he is going to regret it for the rest of his life......or, at least until he is big enough to walk, and walk, and walk......without getting pooped out. 4. When you take a 5 year old out coyote calling and he asks if he can shoot yet....and the coyote is 10 yards away from him, running full blast towards him. 5. When your 5 year old has been using a lawn chair for a rest.....target shooting, and you look up to see the last 5 rounds went through the arm of the lawn chair. 6. Not much we enjoy much more than getting together for a little family comptetion shooting targets, hunting small and big game.....no matter how old they are, lots of good lessons learned......my boys know what a gun will do to an animal or a human, and that is a good lesson learned. -
buckhunter and Josh, What exactly is the whirling woodpecker......I guess I have been stuck too long on the old Circie calls I haven't even heard of that one......guess I need to get up to times a little better. Is that an electronic setup or a manual call?? Nice job on the critters.....nice cat......

Sounding good guys....thanks for the updates. The last few years we have gone up to no snow and it is kind of a bummer cause the boys like tubing and I like the cozyness of the cabin, good warm fire....plus those coyotes are alot easier to spot in a nice blanket of snow....thanks a bunch for the info. -
