    Glassing up......

I glassed one up through the windshield of my truck if I had of reacted properly I would have run right over him, but dodged instead, one lucky cat. Just north of Globe, climbing up the hill there.

    Electric Rail

Watched the news last night about D-backs winning their first game of the season. Not a bad start. What caught my attention was all the talk about the light rail. Estimated 15,000 people used the light rail, which they were excited about. Policemen were monitoring the light rail to make sure, or try to make sure people had passes to ride the light rail. It was mentioned on the news that the light rail is used on an "honor" system and that it is estimated that 3 out of 100 ride the rail without a proper pass, or in other words, for free. Quite an interesting concept and if so, then why the police??? In Norway they have a pretty sophisticated transportation system in Oslo, buses, subways, trains, electric rail.......but you gotta show the driver, or the ticket taker your pass as you walk through....... Sounds like we are contributing to the Obama concept of a free ride By the way, Norway is a socialistic country and trust me.......we don't want to go there...........

    Hearing Aids

Good to hear, no pun intended. What do people do who have hearing loss, get hearing aids and still have to work around the high pitched machinery and equipment? Special ear protection or just the regular muffs over the ears??

    Hearing Aids

Not sure exactly what category this falls under, but gonna give it a fling. Any of you out there wear hearing aids while you hunt? And I am talking serious junk here, I am not talking about some sci-fi system to help me hear the deer. I am talking, i have a hearing loss and want to decide what to do. My wife is gonna kick me in the tail if she has to keep repeating herself and I want to hear better. But I heard that hunting with hearing a hearing aid in your ears can be a nightmare. Any brand suggestions?? It is a real pisser getting old..............first bi-focals now this mess..............

    Hearing Aids

Lots of good info and thanks.....I just want my wife to quit getting mad at me for saying huh, well and then I wouldn't mind hearing the rocks clattering when I have busted a deer, actually, I don't want to hear that cause that means I screwed up again..........I appreciate the info, so I guess the next step is a small loan and an audiologist.

    Ideas on where to camp

OK, I will jump in here, I have been in the same boat and needed help. 27 is a pretty big unit so lets get it out in the open if you have any ideas where you think you want to hunt. Any of those roads cutting through towards middle mountain, diamond rock, buffalo crossing a guy can pull off and pitch a tent. Along 666 there is stray horse, and spots like that. If you dive off red hill road to the east off 666 there is all sorts of room for throwing a tent. If you want a shower and bathroom......motel in Alpine

Winchester Model 1894 Hex barrel 30-30

Here is an interesting twist to where this story might be headed. My son googled "Phelps Dodge Winchester", to make a long story short. Dodge in coherts with Winchester was shipping ammo to Mexico. Therefore a possible tie between PD and Winchester. Interesting, here is the link to the book that talks about this. http://books.google.com/books?id=yb3p5OlZgugC&pg=PA126&lpg=PA126&dq=phelps+dodge+winchester&source=bl&ots=qozR6GcVK8&sig=qLkTssH9ZjZFxvVUuizqWCgRAis&hl=en&ei=YyzWSZj3OI30tAPCvKmuCg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1#PPP14,M1
  15. First the story: I inherited this 30-30 which was originally my great grandpa's. According to the serial number it was built in 1917. The story that has been handed down with the rifle is that when Pancho Villa was raiding, these rifles were given to settlers in the southern part of Arizona by the government. Sounds like a great story, and the date of the gun being built and the time Pancho was raiding puts the rifle at least at the right time frame, plus my great granpa did live in southern Arizona during that time period. Anybody know any of the history that might verify such a story? Thanks, Jeff

Winchester Model 1894 Hex barrel 30-30

Yep, it has a long barrel, and it falls right into place when you throw it up to your shoulder, very easy to hold. I just barely got it, haven't shot it yet, but I plan on killing something with it that is worthy of the gun. See what you can dig up about the story on the gun, I am interested. Thanks

    What's your thoughts on this?

Not sure how close you are to a headquarters office, but I have always had better luck talking to them in person. The ladies up at the one in Pinetop are pretty easy to work with.......so four bucks in gas or four bucks for the duplicate.......

    Water catchment

Maybe trick is a simple term for trickle.....which is what the water does in most trick tanks, not a flowing gushing collection of water but a simple trickle of water as a collection source. That is what I always thought, but I been wrong many a time before......

    Newbie Shed Hunting Q

Look where they winter range. Varies from year to year on time, but somewhere between January and June they get'r done. Only real way to find out is get out there and do some field learn'n. Nothing quite like it though, you don't have to be quiet, you don't have to be up at the crack of dawn, you can do it with the young'ns or the wife or by yourself. You can walk ridges for days and never find anything, specially if they ain't been there, but other days you can find bunches of them, put that spot on your GPS and don't tell anybody where you found'em. Sometimes the hardest part is getting to where the ATV's haven't ruined the experience. Ranks way up there on my list of things I enjoy the most............it has become a pretty competitive event, you gotta get out there or they will be gone.......good luck out there..............and start planning on building a shed to store all of the "keepers" that you just can't sell.......
