I agree with the rural vs. urban, and while I think we have alot of hunters and supporters of hunting who live in the urban areas the traditions of hunting and fishing things like that I think that without the ground roots of having been raised in the rural setting hurts the hunting fishing numbers. I have four boys, three of them hunt and enjoy hunting and fishing, the other one could care less. The one who doesn't like to hunt enjoys shooting with us when we have family shooting competitions, but just doesn't like to hunt. He doesn't care if we hunt but just doesn't like to hunt. When he starts raising his family, the numbers will drop drastically, statistically speaking. His kids, even if they grow up in a rural setting are less likely to like hunting and fishing. While my other boys kids stand a much greater chance of being hunters and fishers even if they grow up urban. On the other side of rural is what I call the California affect. People who grew up in the big city, made big money, now want to go live the quiet life in rural Arizona. They bring their citified rules, building codes and animal loving thoughts and ideas. They will eat a steak dinner grilled on a Sunday afternoon, but please don't kill a deer in the wild with a rifle or bow because that is inhumane. It is a tough battle we are up against, shear numbers will kill the things we love to do in the outdoors, we are the minority...

This is a quote from that particular article, can someone explain to me what it means? The HSUS is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to making ours a kinder world for animals. Among our 11 million supporters – one in every 28 Americans – are Republicans, Democrats and Independents. Does it mean that 1/28 Americans are supporters or that 1/28 of their American supporters are "Republicans, Democrats and Independents" And if that is the case, if only 1/28 of their American supportes are "Republicans, Democrats and Independents", then what are the other 27??? Foreigners, Illegals?????? Just curious

There was a report on the news out of Phoenix the other day, they busted into a house and found 50 guns on site. That was pretty damaging information according to the report.... I probably only really have 30 guns, half of them handed down from family, the other half used on a fairly regular basis for hunting and shooting events of various kinds. But....if they were to bust my door down and search my house I suppose I would be automatically thrown in jail for some conspiracy charge. Course, I am against illegals being here illegally, I do thump on a bible now and again and I am white and married and I have a job and I do pay taxes, so the red flags are flapping in the wind. Actually, it is a beautiful day today with no wind ......yet.............

Oregon tuition breaks sought for illegal immigrant students! PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon lawmakers are considering a change in state law to allow illegal residents to attend Oregon universities and pay the lower in state tuition. Vidal Fuentes Ramos is in America illegally. He says his mother brought him and three siblings to Washington County seven years ago when he was 15. Now he's going to Portland Community College, but says he can’t afford to go on to a major university because he'd have to pay out of state tuition and he cannot afford that. “I went to school three years,” he said. “I graduated high school here in Oregon with a 3.77 GPA with honors. All I need is an opportunity to go to university. Why? I want to keep making a difference in our community." Vidal is one reason UO President Dave Frohnmayer thinks its common sense. “The child can’t help whether he or she is here,” he said. “Let’s not visit on the next generation whatever might be the sins or law issues of the parent. This is a classic issue where we have to invest in the next generation." Some think it’s a terrible idea. "First of all, it’s in conflict with the sense of the rule of law,” Jim ludwick, President of Oregonians for Immigration Reform, says. “We expect everyone in the United States to obey our laws. This rewards people who have broken our laws." The change is being promoted by university student groups. "All students who are qualified should have an equal opportunity to post secondary education and access to post secondary education," Kari Herinckx of the Students of Color Coalition said.

Somebody needs to do a background check on that guy....relocated to New Mexico.....and why????? From where??? Come on last name Miele????? I grew up in New Mexico, rural New Mexico, we (I) learned to drive down the middle of the road and scoot over to our side when one of the two vehicles we would see that day approached. Don't ever recall seeing animals with their heads chopped off on the side of any dirt roads or the few paved roads that exist in that state. Showed my 11 year old just yesterday how to do the Tokyo Drift on a dirt road, something I learned on the dirt roads of New Mexico. Learned from my dad how to put a pig down, gut and butcher with the least amount of "suffering" to the animal and then how to cook the meat. Learned from my brothers how to take wild game and take care of the meat so it didn't spoil. Also learned how to get unlost and what to do better next time so I didn't get lost. Been stuck in the mud and snow on hunting trips more times that I would like to admit, had to spend the night out with a fire waiting for morning to get dug out, had my wife, three young boys, sister in law and two young girls........great learning experience, we were prepared and my kids knew it and weren't scared. We do alot of things with our kids as hunters and a very high percentage of those activities are character building and teaching experiences. I can't imagine what I would substitute for that time spent with my boys out in the hills and praries of the country. Thanks to those who pushed for this turkey hunt that gives me one more chance to take my boy out and have a great time hanging out with him in an environment and setting that we both enjoy.

Just an update from Nancy Pelosi....those of you who attended any tea bag parties yesterday are upper class severe right wing. There weren't any middle or lower class people in attendance to this grass roots protest. Uuuhhhmmmmm, she is right on one account.....I am probably bottom middle class and I didn't attend cause......I was at work. Guess I will count my blessings that I have a job.

What if I want to send my son to vet school up in Washington will he have to pay out of state tuition? When I lived in New Mexico and went to school in AZ did I have to pay out of state? But if I am illegally here in this country I have the right to pay in state tuition?? A whole lot of wolves in sheeps skins kicking around out there, time to circle the wagons an take care of home.......

I read this in a magazine, it was actually from a talk given in 1982 and then recirculated again just this year. The gull story comes from a Readers Digest from that time. We cannot afford to become wards of the government, even if we have a legal right to do so. It requires too great a sacrifice of self-respect and political, temporal, and spiritual independence. In some countries it is extremely difficult to separate earned from unearned benefits. However, the principle is the same in all countries: We should strive to become self-reliant and not depend on others for our existence. Governments are not the only guilty parties. We fear many parents are making “gullible gulls” out of their children with their permissiveness and their doling out of family resources. In fact, the actions of parents in this area can be more devastating than any government program.

Anybody got any quick hints on locating turkey? I have heard howling, crow caw and stuff like that after the sun goes down will get them to gobble in the roost. Any truth to that notion?

I glassed one up through the windshield of my truck if I had of reacted properly I would have run right over him, but dodged instead, one lucky cat. Just north of Globe, climbing up the hill there.

I have an air horn sitting right here on my desk......can't say I have every paid attention to a peacock screamer...I had my calls out in the livingroom last night had my wife and my dog both about ready to chase me out of the house....guess I better step outside to practice tonight. Thanks guys, what about 1:00 in the morning.....does the same hold true as far as them gobbling up on the roost??

Watched the news last night about D-backs winning their first game of the season. Not a bad start. What caught my attention was all the talk about the light rail. Estimated 15,000 people used the light rail, which they were excited about. Policemen were monitoring the light rail to make sure, or try to make sure people had passes to ride the light rail. It was mentioned on the news that the light rail is used on an "honor" system and that it is estimated that 3 out of 100 ride the rail without a proper pass, or in other words, for free. Quite an interesting concept and if so, then why the police??? In Norway they have a pretty sophisticated transportation system in Oslo, buses, subways, trains, electric rail.......but you gotta show the driver, or the ticket taker your pass as you walk through....... Sounds like we are contributing to the Obama concept of a free ride By the way, Norway is a socialistic country and trust me.......we don't want to go there...........

Good to hear, no pun intended. What do people do who have hearing loss, get hearing aids and still have to work around the high pitched machinery and equipment? Special ear protection or just the regular muffs over the ears??

Not sure exactly what category this falls under, but gonna give it a fling. Any of you out there wear hearing aids while you hunt? And I am talking serious junk here, I am not talking about some sci-fi system to help me hear the deer. I am talking, i have a hearing loss and want to decide what to do. My wife is gonna kick me in the tail if she has to keep repeating herself and I want to hear better. But I heard that hunting with hearing a hearing aid in your ears can be a nightmare. Any brand suggestions?? It is a real pisser getting old..............first bi-focals now this mess..............

That is pretty cool huh, a great excuse to get out there and beat the bush. I bought one for my kid, the easter bunny is bringing to him on Sunday, I am excited.......gonna try and do the camp thing over at Alpine too. That is a nice job on AZGF department.
