    New Bailout Plan

This is from an article in the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the economy?" I think this guy nailed it! Dear Mr. President: Please find below my suggestion for fixing America's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan: There re about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations: 1)They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed. 2)They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed. 3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed. It can't get any easier than that! If more money is needed, have all members of Congress and their constituents pay their taxes...

    The Draw System

Here is how we try to beat the odds....lots of kids, apply seperately and hope you all don't get drawn for different unit same time of year. Remembering the day in New Mexico where you could buy a deer tag over the counter and hunt pretty much anywhere in the state was fun, but not realistic in this day and age and may not have been right back then. Thanks for the info though, from those of you crunching the numbers, definitely makes you think twice before filling out the apps., I preferred online applications, but that is because I am a prolific procrastinator.

  13. Census reps: Legal status not important By: Mike Leiby, The Independent 04/28/2009 Email to a friendPost a CommentPrinter-friendlySHOW LOW - As far as the 2010 U.S. Census is concerned, it does not matter if a person is a legal citizen. As a matter of fact, the new, simplified census form doesn't even ask if members of a household are citizens. Show low Planning and Zoning Director Justin Tresgaskes said the 2000 census form was pages long with about 60 questions, but this time it is shorter, simpler and less intrusive into personal information. Census Bureau workers are also required to take an oath promising not to divulge any information collected through their work for the census. Violation could result in a jail term of up to five years and/or fine of up to $250,000. Additionally, law forbids the Census Bureau from sharing individual's answers with anyone at all, including welfare and immigration agencies. Tregaskes said the Census Bureau will begin sending out questionnaires in February of next year but are already performing duties like updating addresses. He wants to reassure Navajo County residents that any information gathered by census workers is used solely for the purpose of acquiring an accurate count of people living in the county. "We are concerned only with body count, nothing else," he said. Initially residents will receive a census questionnaire in the form of a door hanger. Only if the door hangers go unanswered will a census worker show up at a person's doorstep. Tregaskes said the Census Bureau also provides translation services for residents needing them. One area of concern is that the White Mountains has a "significant" number of seasonal residents, and Tregaskes said it is essential they be included in the 2010 census. He asked that seasonal residents determine where they spend the majority of their time living, and if the majority of it is in Navajo County, to list themselves as Navajo County residents on the census form. Since the census begins in February 2010 and many seasonal residents don't start arriving here until May or June, Tregaskes said it is very important for those residents to list themselves as residents of the county regardless of where they receive their questionnare. "Unless we get an accurate count, we might not be able to receive all of the funding we are entitled to," Tregaskes said. The first thing the new census form tells people is to "count all people, including babies, who live and sleep here most of the time." He said things like grants and other government funding are often largely based on population counts and without everyone being included it could result in significant losses and have profound impact on available county services and programs. Show Low Mayor Rick Fernau said inaccurate census figures would likely also affect many of the cities programs and services. "Residents need to be aware the census is on the way," he said. "And I would ask everyone to please participate." In the 2000 Census, Navajo County had the second worst return rate in the entire state with only about 43 percent of questionnaires being returned. Tregaskes said he wanted to assure people that this time around it will be a much simplified process and added he is confident it will translate to better return numbers. "In the last census, one in six households received a long questionnaire asking for detailed socioeconomic information. In 2010, every residence will receive a short questionnaire that is simple and fast to complete and return," said a FAQ sheet from the U.S. Census Bureau. For more information about the census, visit www.census.gov/2010census. For any unanswered questions, call the U.S. Census Bureau's Denver Regional Office at (303) 264-0202 or 1-800-852-6159.

    Miss America

If you missed this story you gotta read this story. Guess it is closet time for all of us that want to voice our opinion on how we were raised and what we believe. Miss California Carrie Prejean, who was named first runner up in the Miss USA Pageant on Sunday, says she believes her answer on same-sex marriage cost her the title but admits that she has no regrets. During the Las Vegas pageant, Perez Hilton, an openly gay gossip blogger, asked Prejean whether every state should follow Vermont's recent move to legalize same-sex marriage. "Well, I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other," responded Prejean. "We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage." "And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman," she continued. "No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you very much." On Monday, Prejean spoke about the gay marriage question to entertainment host Billy Bush, co-host of the NBC ceremony. "It did cost me my crown," Carrie told Bush on his radio talk show. "I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that’s all I can do." "It is a very touchy subject and he is a homosexual and I see where he was coming from and I see the audience would’ve wanted me to be more politically correct," she added. "But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything." Prejean placed second in the pageant to Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton who was crowned Miss USA 2009 during the live NBC telecast of the show. Still, Miss California says she feels like she won. "I feel like I’m the winner. I really do, Billy," she said Monday. Hilton, who appeared to be holding back his anger following Perjean's response, exploded with rage against Prejean in a video posting on his blog. The Hollywood blogger called Prejean a "stupid b----" in the video and said he would have gone up on stage and snatched the tiara from her head if she had won Miss USA. Hilton said if he was Miss California, he would have responded: "Hmm. Perez, that's a great question. That's a very hot topic in our country right now. And I think that is a question that each state should decide for themselves because that's how our forefathers designed our government." He has since apologized for calling her names and said he would love to take her out for coffee to "talk." Keith Lewis, who runs the Miss California competition, told FOXNews.com that he was "saddened" and "hurt" over Miss California's comments. "I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit," he said. "I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone and religious beliefs have no politics in the Miss California family." Lewis also released a statement on the matter on the Miss California's Web site. "I am proud of Carrie Prejean’s beauty and placement at the 2009 MISS USA pageant," he stated. "I support Carrie’s right to express her personal beliefs even if they do not coincide with my own. I believe the subject of gay marriage deserves a great deal more conversation in order to heal the divide it has created." Prejean's school, San Diego Christian College, responded to the news of her nabbing the first runner-up title. "As a community we congratulate Carrie on this accomplishment," the school stated in an update of a story on Prejean. "She is a great example of a student who is seeking to have an impact on the world for Christ." According to the school's article, Prejean is studying toward a career in special education. She is also active in her community, serving in a ministry that helps women in the adult entertainment industry, volunteering at the local International Ministry Center where she has helped refugees learn to speak English, and mentoring children in foster care through the program Voices for Children.

Naa, too many houses out there with gun toting, bible thumping christians living in them I would love to go unload on those dogs, they actually claim that there is a group of half wolf dogs that got turned loose. ROAD CONDITIONS UNIT #1

I remember taking my young family to Kinnikinick Lake late, late one night. Had never been there before, pulled in set up a tent real quick and went to bed, woke up the next mornng right at the edge of the lake. Not sure how I didn't step in the lake setting up the tent. I do alot of hunting in places I have never been or had the chance to scout so I could be one of those camping in prime time country, but don't really mean to mess things up, just the way I have had to hunt through the years.

    Wild dogs

Remember the Elmer Fudd cartoon where he tries to ditch his dog...................probably going to see more of that as people can't afford to feed their critters. Cases have already been reported of horses being dropped off onto ranches in hopes that somebody can care for them. Out east of town here it has been more a case of 40 acre parcels where people buy land cheap, have animals, dogs, cats. Dogs and cats haven't been spayed, run loose because some people think it is OK for them to be free roamers. Next thing you know you got the neighbors dogs hooking up for an afternoon romp. It has gotten so bad on the east side of town that the county folks want the town animal control to come out and dispense of the dogs, but the town animal control won't go out there cause it is out of his jurisdiction. I told the county that for a small fee, I would love to go take care of that problem, but they insist that it requires a specialist

    Jr. Turkey Participation

We hunted Saturday only and I was pretty shocked at the lack of crowd in general. I had expected to be shoulder to shoulder with hunters but was pleasantly surprised. Real fun hunt, I am positive if we would have put in another day we could have gotten my boy a good look at a tom.....one day just wasn't enough for my turkey skills.

    Jr. Turkey Participation

I took advantage of it with my 11 year old. We did a one day warrior trip, went in blind and uneducated didn't put any to bed but had one heck of a fun hunt. Drove until 1:00am to get where we wanted to start, we were in middle of them all morning until the wind started to blow and then we couldn't hear them any more. Saw some on the road headed over to the Jr. Camp in 27/1 Units. Chased a tom there. My boy got to visit with "Woody" at the camp and got a free call out of the visit, plus was taught how to use it. Went back out about 3:00, got a shot off at a tom and knocked the bird for a loop, but he got up and flew off. Kicked up one more tom before it got dark but could not get in close enough for a shot. My son was pretty amazed that a bird with that small of a brain could out smart us. He wants to know if we can put in together next year so I have a gun too. I told him next year we won't do a one day shot, gotta put those buggers to bed or it is one tough hunt. Lots of fun, he is hooked and thanks to Woody and the gang at the camp for the burgers and teaching us how to call a turkey.
