Few years back after both my parents passed away and I realized the burden that sometimes we leave behind I decided to make my own casket. So then my father in law asked me if I would make sure I made his......but I put it off and put it off. He ended up in the hospital a few weeks back and things weren't looking all that great so I got myself busy. Luckily, he has made a great recovery so I get to put this one in storage along with mine!!! What do you think, should I send pictures to my father in law or would that be like way uncool???

It has been 2 years since he asked me and that was skittish for me......but what you said is what I am worried about maybe even so for his wife......I mean I don't want to come off like...hey it is time for you to go grandpa....... I think if he asked you to build it that it is very important to share it with him before that day. maybe a "hey remember that project you asked me to do for you" I like that approach.......thanks

Kids don't have much wiggle room for being kids these days.......I feel bad for them, lots of lifes lessons are learned doing stupid stuff and we always pray that our kids won't do something stupid enough to get them in a mess.

Wild question....would it be wild to send pictures to my father in law so he can check it out or would that be not cool???

On mine, the first picture above, I just used the raw lumber for the box, the bottom and the lid have 3/4 plywood as part of the construction. Grandpas, I built a box with 3/4 plywood interior and then built off of that. I can't speak for what is normal. On my last one, my lid didn't match up as good as I wanted and I was worried that it wouldn't seal but when I talked to the mortician he said none of the factory caskets really seal up. On mine I have a big knot hole at the head end of mine just in case they bury me alive I have a breathin hole. The only one morbid wise that I struggled with was the one for my nephews 7 year old boy and it wasn't morbid, just very humbling and gratifying, dare I say spiritual experience. I was glad his mom and dad let me build it for him.

I gotta get somewhere so I can see one of those monsters.....never have crossed the path of one......cool pics.

Where vaults are required it has to fit inside the vault is the only thing so far I have run into. The local mortician told me the lid on mine opens the wrong direction according to what is "normal" but I told him I bet at that point in my life it wouldn't really matter to me. I built one for a nephews son couple of years back and that cemetery let me build the vault out of wood as well. Cemeteries are not all the same, some only allow fiberglass vaults and such. I guess the main thing is to check with the individual cemetery to make sure you are up to whatever their regulations are.

Some things to consider Wyguy.....you probably saved yourself a phone call to your dad or some other buddy who would have had to come pull you out Remember what field of interest you have and what you are going to do to change the way government works. That is probably how your brake line got busted......funny guy driving on rutted roads.......and hikin is better for you anyways. Good luck looking for antler, don't let the worlds problems drag your day down!!!

What they said....not this!!!! Sorry to hear about your spill that stinks.....good luck on recovery!

Obama is unbelievable
Non-Typical Solutions replied to goinhuntn's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
It's all about huntin....if you can't get a good book to read while you are hunting what good is hunting???? Obama has created more jobs than any other president in American history.......putting all us good citizens to work so we can afford to buy guns and hunt.....and read.......just have to wait longer to get a book is all......probably because of censorship on the books..... -
I can give you results......no tags again for elk, antelope and sheep.....another year of just looking for antlers on the ground!!!!

ND browns, first trip of the year!
Non-Typical Solutions replied to yotebuster's topic in Shed Hunting
Yes you can.... corn fed tenderloins!!! We have some tanks for bodies up here. My buddy shot a 3 1/2 yr old 130" 3 point management buck this year that weighed 268 gutted. I think that puts him over 300# on the hoof. Thing was a tank and not even the biggest bodied buck out there! I was thinkin it while I was writing it for sure.....good eating there..... -

That is awesome.....can't beat cornfed antlers.......cool setup you have. -
I would love to find an eastern whitetail antler and a moose antler......but like they say if you don't play you can't win and I have never been antler hunting where I could find either......bucket list for me!!! I bet in North Dakota those antlers are basically frozen and falling off right next to a corn field no less....that is pretty cool.

Instead of quads try this method out......
-
Glassing or boots on the ground....all depends on the terrain......some of the places we find antler there is no possible way to glass because it is so thick.....other areas glassing can produce but be prepared...are you going to go down there and get that antler that you glassed up.......... I love looking for antler.....but quad tracks do get me riled as well......
