Welcome to the site! Is there 3 cats in that last picture? Looks like one in the background crouched behind the grass! Either way, two darn many in that area..good luck killing one!

From past taxidermy experience I would tuck the birds head under a wing, wrap the entire bird in newspaper to protect the feathers, keep him dry and cool and either get him home and frozen or to the taxidermist asap! Good luck on your hunt...

I'll reply to this one...I've seen it before, but what a beautiful story! Thanks for sharing! Happy Easter everybody....

+1 for the Bushnell 3200 line. All Bushnell 3200 scopes are tested to withstand equivalent to a .375 H+H recoil. The Bushnell 3200 10x40 mil dot is being sold on the Barrett .50 BMG packages. Granted this is a semi auto .50 thus less recoil, but still pretty impressive. I built my daughter's rifle on a budget and got this scope around $200. The MOA adjustments are positive and it consistently returns to zero zero (passed the 100 yrd box test multiple times)! It's not the ballistic reticle your asking about, but in your price range and on a 300 RUM, I think you would be pleased! However, you need to know something about minute of angle adjustments to work the turret, and I won't even get into the use of mill dots so as not to confuse.....Good luck!

In the words of Forest Gump, just answere every question with, "Sir, Yes Sir!" It worked for me. Good Luck!!!!!

Ok AZantlerhead. Maybe I avoided a legitimate topic. I trapped throughout highschool and college. I'll tell you that it is an incredible experience that requires a lot of knowledge and responsibility. I was very dissapointed to see the legislation regulating the use of leg hold traps on public land. I feel that legislation took away a very family oriented experience as well as did terrible things for our wildlife in Arizona. The regulation of trapping in the state, in my opinion, has started the AzGFD's overwhelming need for new regulations on the sport of hunting. Deer and antelope populations are on a steady decline, partially because of predation and not hunting. If it were hunting, it is because of monetary reasons and not harvest methods ie: bating, long rang shots, high velocity bows, good optics, you get the idea. Most of the predators in the state have few if any natural threats. I assure you that the lion in Amanda's video has probably never felt so uncomfortable in his life. However, the animal was relatively relaxed. That is because it is a predator and not a prey. The lion has no natural threats. On the other hand, anyone who watches a whitetail deer for any length of time will comment on how jumpy the animal is. They are like this all day and all year long. We as sportsman pursue them perhaps 10 weeks out of 50 weeks each year. Predators haunt them every minute of every day and every night. I don't feel bad for the predators and for that reason any animals taken by human means. They were placed here at the time of creation to provide for our needs. They need to be regulated! They need to be eaten! Calling and random kills during the open hunts are not doing it. I would bet that more predators are killed by vehicles on the highways than by hunters. Trust me, I see them every day.

That lion sent his AzGFD survey back and he had exceeded the, "Harvest Objective." His method of take was just modified!!!!!!! This thread could be interesting if not ugly!

Well, you met Kalyn in October when she killed her first deer. The replies really motivated her and kept the moment alive. At the end of that post, I mentioned that I had drawn a late 22N rifle tag and would be gifting it to her (one of AzGFD's best legislation thus far.) We live in the area and have hunted 22 our whole life with great success. However, things began to change this year. As you all have mentioned, the high number of hunters have greatly changed the pattern of the elk in the area. I scouted several weeks prior to the hunt as well as during the first late hunt. I soon realized that we were about to have one of our toughest hunts ever. I was reluctant to take Kalyn into our, "Honey Hole," as it is some of the roughest country in the unit. However, several days prior to the hunt, with hunters and gut piles in every other location, I made the decision to do just that. Opening day found us in the area, amazingly with no other hunters around! Kalyn and I were accompanied by two good friends, Justin and Paul. Within minutes after daybreak, Paul stated, "I've got a good bull!" The bull (a decent 6X6) was about 350 yards away and feeding. We moved to 300 yards and set Kalyn up. The location was less than ideal as well as the fact that Kalyn was freezing to death! I could see the muzzle of her gun shivering as was she. Not wanting to risk an unethical shot, we waited until the bull bedded down and moved, this time setting up about 250 yards from the bull. Kalyn sat in that location until dark with the bull never showing himself. I couldn't believe her patience! During that time we located another bull about 700 yards away. This bull had completely broken off his left side. We named the bull Left Turn (Jeff Dunham/Bubba J), because he had to be really off balance. The next morning, we were same time same place! At first light, we spotted Left Turn within 50 yards of where he had been the night before. All things happen for a reason! It was time to make a move. We were able to move to within 210 yards of the bull. The bull had bedded during our stalk and we were forced to wait over an hour for him to stand up. This time Kalyn was set up seated and using the tripod. The shot was 40 degrees downhill. Justin stated, "I think Left Turn is about to die!" Finally the bull stood up and once again, I stated, "Take your time baby!" BOOM!!! I've never seen a bull hit the ground so fast, and with a 140 grain bullet! Kalyn is incredible, and I would bet my next paycheck that she is the first 10 year old girl to make the hike that was necessary to get to that bull. On a side note, the 6X6 Paul had spotted the morning before was located bedded a short distance from where Left Turn fell. My brother Tim shot him a short time later. Congratulation Tim! A big thanks to Paul and Justin for their help. Hope they enjoyed it as much as me!

New G&F Rule would ban hunting over water?
GHOSTLUVR replied to bowsniper's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
This is on the AzGFD's reply on page 20 of the Salt and Feed no more forum. "This language does not prohibit hunting over water, the use of game calls, the use of cover scents or the time of day an individual may hunt." So as I read it, water sorces of any kind, man made or natural will be ok! However, dump a bunch of apple juice in it and maybe you'll have a problem! -
Happy New Year! Here's a picture off one of my trail cameras a couple weeks ago. One of the neatest pictures I've had. Hope you enjoy.

Awesome pictures! Looks like blood in the snow, did he get hold of one of your dogs?

Well, I was just wondering if any of you have any weird things that you just have to have with you on your hunt? Kalyn built this last year and gave it to me as a, "Lucky Charm!" The arrow head she found on our property, the white round thing is a piece of a shell, and the necklace is the lace used for wrapping presents (the kind you curl with a scissors.) It itches my neck and almost drives me crazy! She insisted I wear it on my October hunt last year. First day wearing it I killed the buck in the photo. In January I was wearing it when I killed my largest archery whitetail. Needless to say, I haven't hunted without it since. If you look at the posts on Kalyn's first deer and elk, you can see that she is wearing it as well. Hope I'm not the weirdest one on here!!! What do you all have?

Incredible poem and an incredible tallent! Thanks for sharing.

The horns have to be removed from a ram and the pedicles and skull boiled prior to mounting the trophy. Nothing quite like the look on a guys face when you slam his trophy on the concrete to pop the horns loose!!!

Plug these coordinates in on Google Earth (33*32'21.10"N 112*15'40.29"W). Couple of huge bucks, "in there." I can't kill either of them, but I go find them a couple times a year!

Thanks Jeff. 7mm-08 using a 140 grain Federal Premium ballistic tip! Best of luck to your daughter.
