    12a otc lion tag

Glass everthing you can but keep the deer as your target. Lions are not rare but they are rarely seen.
  2. That's great there was another hunter ed camp near Flagstaff last week as well so my guestimate is we gained 150 or so new (well trained) hunters. A huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers at both camps.

    13A RIFLE TAG

My family had 3 tags there last year, they would say the same thing, to far to scout if you can't afford it, but if you spend the whole hunt up there you will find the big boys, especially when it starts to get real cold and nasty! Give the game wardens for that unit a call, they will practically point you at the big bucks. X2 on calling the Wildlife Manager the regional office 928-774-5045 can help you get started.

Anyone been in the area of the Slide Fire yet this summer?

Worked on a water catchment burned in the fire out on Harding Point. In that area there are quite a few large green islands and the mulching operation has covered a lot of the black. We did see a few deer in the black but no elk. The area remains closed and I suspect it will still be closed come hunting season for this year anyway. This link will take you to the order and page 3 is a map of the closed area. http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3806731.pdf

A little more on the clinic Will you be hunting sheep in 2014? Then you won't want to miss our annual clinic, Saturday, September 27th at El Zaribah Shrine Auditorium in Phoenix! There is no charge for the clinic. It will begin at 7:30 am and last until approximately noon. Registration starts at 7:00 am, with coffee and pastries. The clinic is specifically designed for those who have drawn a sheep permit for 2014, and for those assisting them on their hunts. Some of the topics to be covered include sheep hunting techniques, how to identify a trophy ram, equipment and optics, photographing the hunt, and field care of your ram. In addition to the presentations, representatives from all of the Arizona Game and Fish Department regions, the KOFA and Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuges, the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, and the Bureau of Land Management will be at the clinic to give provide specific information about particular hunt units. To register for the clinic, please visit our website at www.adbss.org, or send an email to: admin@adbss.org Annual Ram Recognition Banquet - September 27, 2014 This banquet honors those hunters who took rams during the 2013 season, and is an excellent chance for you and your family to see outstanding rams displayed in a collective group. 18. That's terrible luck and I wish you the best in working it out with AZG&F. If that fails and you can not hunt, please consider donating your tag to one of the terrific groups who help out kids. My favorite is Hunt of a Lifetime http://www.arizonahoal.org/ Good Luck

Never lose sight of the fun and the hunt. My friend had a tag in 2002 and "WE" did not fill the tag, even though we saw lots of sheep and decent rams he was not going to just fill the tag with anything other than the Ram he wanted for a lifetime. That hunt is by far the most favorite hunt I have expierienced with the places we went, the sheep and other wildlife we saw, the opportunity to be in God's country and camping with friends was what made it for me. Remember it's not the end of the world if you don't fill the tag you just start applying all over again and as stated once you have Sheep Fever it never goes away.

Congratulations!! Attend the ADBSS Hunter clinic this is a great clinic and there will always be people there who know your unit and are glad to share information. This year's clinic is Sept 29 and information is in the link below, think about joining the society but the clinic is free regardless. Members of the society will also be on hand to answer questions and shae info, there will be some great mounts from last years hunt and a banquet for those hunters that evening. click here http://www.adbss.org/sheep_hunter_clinic.html NOTE the clinic is Sept 27, 2014 same time and place. Contact the AZG&F regional office for your unit and arrange to talk with the wildlife manager for your unit, they will be more than happy to share survey data and field information for your hunt. Scout as much as you possibly can, (glass, glass and glass some more) learn the area and try and determine where the sheep hang out, don't get stuck on one ram, keep scouting as much of the region as you can. Even a half a day will help in the end. Finding multiple herds will be beneficial later on, and remember sheep do move. When the hunt approaches narrow your scouting to where you have seen rams your interested in and remember depending on the number of tags you do have competition. Last but not least DIY is very do able and your success will hinge on the time and effort you can put into it. Good Luck,

How Does the Draw really Work.

Do they complete each species or hunt before moving on? Are all the runs 1-5 made on the 1000's (deer) then move on to the 4000's, 5000's, 6000's etc. I've been holding out hope that they had not started the 6000 sheep hunts yet.

How Does the Draw really Work.

This is from the G&F web site How does the Big Game Drawing work? There are 3 phases to the Big Game Drawing – the Bonus Point Pass, the First-Second Choice Pass, and the Third-Fourth-Fifth Choice Pass. Before each of the three passes in the drawing, each application is processed through a random number generator program. One random number for the application plus an additional random number for each group bonus point (which includes the Hunter Education and Loyalty bonus points) is generated for that application. The lowest random number generated for an application is used in the drawing process. An application receives a new random number for each Pass of the Big Game Draw. Group Bonus Points occur in the Big Game Draw when 2 to 4 applicants apply on 1 hunt application. Group bonus points are calculated by adding the genus bonus points, loyalty bonus point, and hunter education bonus point for each applicant on an application and dividing that total by the number of applicants. The Department shall use the average number of bonus points accumulated by the individuals in the group, rounded to the nearest whole number. If the average has decimal digits equal to or greater than .5, the total will be rounded to the next higher number otherwise it is rounded down. When an application is read and the hunt choices are checked for available permits, there must be enough permits available in a hunt choice for all applicants on the application, including nonresident caps; if not, the application is passed and the next one is read. The Big Game Drawing, including the 20% bonus point pass, will be processed as follows: First Pass (20% Bonus Point) Twenty percent of authorized hunt permit-tags in each hunt number for deer, antelope, elk, turkey, javelina, and spring bear may be issued in this pass. Twenty percent of the total authorized hunt permit-tags (all hunt numbers combined) for both bighorn sheep and buffalo may be issued. Although 20 percent are available, the 10% nonresident caps are still in effect. Each valid application is assigned the lowest random number from those generated for that application. The application file for each species is sorted by group bonus points in descending sequence and then by random number within the bonus point groupings. In the Bonus Pass, the first and second hunt choices for all applications with maximum bonus points are looked at first. If permits are still available from the 20% allocation, then the next lower bonus point category is looked at; and so on, until all of the 20% allocation is issued or until all applications with 1 or more bonus points are read. Applications with zero bonus points will not be included in the 20% Bonus Pass of the Draw. As each application is read, the first and then second hunt choices are checked to see if there are any permits available as part of the 20% bonus point allocation. If there are enough permits available for each applicant on the application without exceeding the 20% allocation or the nonresident cap, the permits are issued to that application. If not, the next application is read and the first and second hunt choices are checked until the entire application file is read. Any unissued permits from the "bonus point pass" will be returned to the available permits for each hunt. The Drawing will then continue to the next two passes. Second Pass (1st and 2nd Hunt Choices) For all valid applications which were unsuccessful in the bonus point pass, new random numbers are generated for each application with the lowest random number being assigned to the application. The same random number process as described above is used. The valid application file for each species is then sorted in random number sequence only. The first valid application (with the lowest random number) is read, checking the first and then the second hunt choices for available hunt permit-tags. If there are enough hunt permit-tags available for either of the choices and for each applicant on the application, without exceeding the nonresident cap when applicable, then the hunt permit-tags are issued. The next valid application in random number sequence is then checked for available hunt permit-tags until the entire file is read. Third Pass (3rd, 4th, and 5th Hunt Choices) For all applications which were unsuccessful with their first and second choices, new random numbers are generated for each valid application with the lowest random number being assigned to the application. The same random number process as described above is used. The valid application file for each species is again sorted into random number sequence. Each valid application is then read checking the third, then fourth, and then fifth hunt choices for available hunt permit-tags for all applicants on each application (without exceeding the nonresident cap). When hunt permit-tags are available for one of the three choices, they are issued to the application. After the entire file has been read in the third pass, the hunt permit-tag issuance portion of the drawing has been completed. Applicants are then awarded an additional bonus point for each species for which they were unsuccessful with a valid application. The species bonus points for each successful applicant are then zeroed out for the species for which they were issued a hunt permit-tag.

    Covert Scouting Cameras

Quick Shout Out for Covert support. I was having issues with my camera shutting off and contacted Covert Support. Through emails they helped me pinpoint the problem to the SD adapter. The "write protect" switch had moved to the center position so the camera could't see the mini SD. My point is they responded quickley and stayed with the problem until it was resolved.
