The 'How To' of shooting on an incline.
cosninocanines replied to 308Nut's topic in Long Range Shooting
It's going to take me some time to work through this I just purchased the Leica 1600B rangefinder which has a ballistics program and bullet compensation built in. I was under the impression the hold over would be different shooting uphill vs downhill, is that the case? Thank You for this post I have an awfull lot of learning ahead of me. -

Proposed Access Agreement on Boquillas Ranch
cosninocanines replied to Don Martin's topic in Elk Hunting
Copy of my reply in the javelina forum to this topic. Unfortunatly this does have the possibility of snowballing, could be Unit 5b and the Hopi ranches before long. Wildlife management will really be strained and the hunting pressure adjacent to these areas will increase. The wildlife will respond by crossing the fence as they do on the Navajo Depot and Grand Canyon National Park. I appreciate the folks at G&F working on these issues and hope that a balance can be found. We all should follow the example set by the Mohave Sportsmen and donate our time in some usefull way to help the ranchers. I worked on the Boquillas clean-up last year after driving miles and miles our little group picked up very little trash because there was very little trash to pick up. We covered a lot of country during the archery antelope hunt and again little or no trash to be found. -

Help a young girl get a service dog
cosninocanines replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in The Campfire
Let's not wait for tomorrow a donation of any amount today can make this happen. I showed the video to my wife and her only comment was all the hunters on this web site should be able to do this in just a few days not much I could say to that. Once again I say to Savannah I admire your strength and know all our prayers are with you. -

Let's get this done, Savannah I admire your strength! -
I just got a new Covert MP6 and set it up near our bird feeder in the back yard. This was mainly just to test it out and get used to how to set it, download the pics and use the included software. So here are our first pics of the night feeders.

I'm looking to upgrade from my old Bushnell rangefinder and was hoping to find some reviews or suggestions on whats my best option. My needs are rifle hunter ranging shots to 500 yards. Typically in pinion pine fringe so cross canyon and hillside. Flat shots! Very rare up or down majority of the time, so ballistic or true distance a must. Thanks to everyone who gives me some feedback.

Cabela's Bucks ain't they great! Leica 1600 B on order. With your input and reading a lot of reviews for various rangfinders I opted for this one. Spent more than I planned but with all the options and 7x power I felt this was my best choice. Now I have to get these old bones off the mountain and on a hillside in unit 22 and put 'em to use. Thanks again, cosninocanines

What you guys think about the Garmin MONTANA 650T
cosninocanines replied to game hntr's topic in GPS and Maps
I have had 4 Garmin units and presently have the Oregon 450t, my favorite was the etrex VistaHCx. I would agree that the GPSMAP 62 is hard to beat. I use mine in conjunction with National Geographics TOPO US to track trails and roads and locate items off the topo map onto the gps as waypoints, then when in the field I can find springs and certain points I want to find. http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/ is a great source for topo maps (FREE) that you can load onto your gps if you have a SD card in the unit. -

Travel management - what are YOU going to do?
cosninocanines replied to mtn-memories's topic in The Campfire
Just got home from Colorado where we camped in the Pike Nat Forest. The dispersed campsites are all marked and most are right next to the main roads. We "lucked" out and found one 40 feet off the road. I will comply but when are we "the owners" going to rebel? First step is to be sure and vote and know how your candidate stands on this. -
Zero, Zip, Nada, Nichts! No matter how I say it no tags. It will be over the counter or nothing, at least some friends have tags and I will get to watch the campfire or better yet maybe help pack something out.

The Coranado is in the process of developing their Travel Management Plan which will determine what roads stay open and what are closed. For more information and how to voice your concerns here is the contact information. For more information please contact Peg Wilson at the Sierra Vista Ranger District, at (520) 378-0311.

6TH ANNUAL CWT.com MARSHALL LAKE GET-TOGETHER
cosninocanines replied to Lance's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
Sorry just saw this event FIRE RESTRICTIONS The following fire restrictions are in effect for the entire Coconino National Forest: The use of campfires, charcoal grills, and stove fires (wood, charcoal, and coal burning) are prohibited on all Coconino National Forest lands. This now includes developed campsites and campgrounds. Use of explosives is prohibited. Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building. Operating a chainsaw, or other equipment powered by an internal combustion engine, is prohibited between the hours of 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. During acceptable hours, please have 5-10 ft. clearance around your generators and other internal combustible engines. Welding or operating acetylene or other torch with open flame is prohibited. Discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun is prohibited except while engaged in a lawful hunt. The use of pressurized gas appliances such as stoves, lanterns or heating devices is allowed, providing such devices meet the fire underwriter’s specifications for safety. The public is reminded that fireworks and operating or using any internal or external combustion engine without a spark arresting device properly installed, maintained, and in effective working are always prohibited on all national forest lands. -
Seasonal varies, some roads are located in "quiet areas" and others are in "wet weather areas" and may be closed for short periods any time of the year. This is from the Coconino Nat Forest web site Quiet Areas " Hunters, (the recreation group who requested this special area designation), desire areas where they can hunt on foot or horseback without the intrusion of motorized vehicles. Also, the value of the area during these special periods for wildlife, horseback riders, hikers, mountain bikers and other forest users cannot be overlooked. Wildlife, for example, benefit from the absence of noisy vehicles through stress reduction, much the same as you and I would, yet may still be hunted in these areas during regular hunting seasons." Wet Wearher "The wet weather travel restrictions are resulting in the temporary closure of many roads and the prohibition of cross-country motor vehicle travel including ATVs when soils are saturated due to precipitation." Here in the Flagstaff area this usually occurs after most hunting seasons are over however some late December and January hunts could be affected.

Last forest for me, if you want to play with this yourself download the pdf's from the bottom of this link "System Managed roads for the public". They are broken down by Ranger District. Once you open the pdf you can save it to a file then use the +/- to zoom in to your favorite area. I have also posted the files in this forum. http://www.fs.usda.gov/detailfull/asnf/landmanagement/?cid=STELPRDB5200750&width=full
