Oops, 45% for 22n, 78% for 22s. late bull had a 36% draw which is pretty good.

It is for bull. Being his first hunt, I was in a cow frame of mind. I think there was like a 70% draw for cow last year in 22N.

If it wern't for the tags, G&F would have to hire people to kill some of these elk. I'm sure we would complain about that as well. The Alamo elk are tearing up the riparian areas nearby and need to be taken out. Nobody said it would be easy.

Oh, as far as best units, they are the ones with the low success rates. Some of the easier ones to get drawn for, can be just below the rim (22,23 etc) If there are tags, there are elk. Check the G&F website for some starting points: http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/hunting_units.shtml

We have an extra slot on our elk tag if you want to put in with us. If not, check trhe regs, they have the draw succes rates in them. But remember, if it's easy to get drawn, it's for a reason. I camp when I hunt, but there are units where you can stay in motels if you wish. There are plenty of nights when I wish I had. What's your MOS? I was a 63S stationed at Bragg for 5 years.

Bought my tag today. New office has six cashier stations, and only one open. I thought I was at Home Depot. 2700 tags sold so far for maybe 200 elk. I'm going out tomorrow to Alamo. They say there are only 15-20 elk there. I'll take my bow to make it a deer/elk combo hunt. How often do you get to do that? Hope to at least find some sign. glad to at least have the opporotunity. Hopefully we will be able to get updates, so as the herds thin out.

It really sucks that you can't shoot sick or wounded deer in this state. What if that deer had a contagious disease.

Game Management Unit 36B White-tailed Deer Overview: Unit 36B offers excellent whitetail deer hunting opportunities. Decent densities of whitetail can be found in the Pajarito Mts., Atascosa Mts., Tumacacori Mts, and the San Luis Mountains. The Ruby Road offers access to many good canyons. These areas are primarily oak grassland and provide good cover for whitetail. Hunt the sunlit south facing slopes in the morning and try the oak covered north facing slopes as the day warms up. Ocotillo thickets are a good place to look for bucks. Trophy bucks can be found throughout the Unit and are most susceptible during the rut, which occurs in late December. If you want to be successful, spend more time sitting and glassing than walking. Prescouting is a must if you are interested in trophies. The Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge is open to deer hunting. Be aware of the 'no hunt zones' within the refuge.

Yeah, 6% draw on the muzzleloader hunt. I know a guy who drew it the last 2 years.

Very nice for 22. Great unit for number of elk, but a bull that size is definately a trophy for 22. Very nice anywhere.
