Hunting Wolves a different way.
Arizona Griz replied to bear402's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
That is some video. There are 4 different types of "Aquila" eagles in northern Europe. After looking at the video a few times the eagles appear to be a subspecies of the Golden Eagle Aquila chrysaetos chrysaetos and are refered to as a Berkut Eagle Aquila chrysaetos daphanea. Most of them appear to be juveniles. The remaining three species are Imperial, Steppe, and Greater Spotted and they do not look like any of these. Also the wolves look pretty small. European wolves, excluding Siberian wolves, are generally smaller than northern North American wolves. -
I too will be there as usual at our Corporate table.

They Call me Hunter by Hunter Wells
Arizona Griz replied to wklman's topic in Hunting and Outdoors-related books
Do u know, Fred wells and Rachel Wells? or the Wells Sport Store? While I have yet to read the book in question I did have the opportunity to meet Fred and Rachael Wells about 20 years ago at the Gun Shop in Prescott. A friend of mine was friends to one of Fred's grandson's (can't remeber the name) and took me down there. I do remember Fred working on a custom 50 caliber rifle at the time and him telling both of us that one time Hank Williams Jr. had approached him and offered him $10,000 to build a custom rifle as quick as possible. Fred told him that he would have to get in line and the line was quite long. Needless to say Hank Williams Jr. never got the rifle. I also remember Rachael showing me a .22 caliber rifle that she had engraved and donated to the Prescott Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk foundation for their banquet. Miraculously her grandson had won it back at the banquet. She also showed me a book of about 20 Master (?) Engravers of which 19 were men and one woman which happened to be her. Here is a short story about Fred and his shop. http://fredwellsoldplace.blogspot.com/2009/04/octogenarian-riflemaker-whos-got-10.html -
5th Edition Bowhunting in Arizona Record Book
Arizona Griz replied to Mark Sipe's topic in Hunting and Outdoors-related books
If you paid for the book you will get it. The book is a long time in coming. There was not a lot of member participation in putting it together, that's why I am no longer on the committee. Please don't bad mouth the program unless you know all the facts. I am sure everyone will like the book. BTW, I would imagine that are looking for a couple of new members that could put some spark back into the program. Also, there was no banquet because the book was the top priority. -
I will be there. We get a corporate table or two every year.

I met Mike in the field up north by accident a few years back. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. Prayers definitely go out to all of his family. God Bless.

Movement on Senate Bill 196
Arizona Griz replied to jamaro's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
If that did happen, and you and I both know it will not, then the ranches will all be locked up. Some of them depend upon that income to keep their ranches operational. I personally know of two, one elk and the other antelope, that put this tag money back into their operations. It is one big mess and many will be hurt by it. -
Movement on Senate Bill 196
Arizona Griz replied to jamaro's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
The sad part about his whole thing was a movement was started and it has nowhere to go but down hill. When it's all over and done a few years from now you all will have wished you left well enough alone. I don't have an answer to the 22% of tags going to NR but this will not fix anything. Wait till you guys try messing with the landowner tags. Thank goodness Arizona doesn't have all of the private land NM has. Good luck, you will all need it. -

collared dove cross breeding?
Arizona Griz replied to bowhuntaz1's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I too have seen the two different colors in Mesa. I am not so sure of the cross breeding though. They are much more dominant than the Mourning dove. -
Cool looking antlers. Congratulations on a fine buck.

boone and crockett / pope and young
Arizona Griz replied to a topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I doubt that we will ever be so enlightened, but we can certainly hope for that day to come. It took me a lifetime to realize that hunting should not be a competition between hunters. Bill Quimby I am not sure I said that right but I sure do like your answer. I would like to think that the information gathered could be used for some kind of research. -

I would say it probably is about 1 out of 10 that gets measured for the books. Just remember, if it wasn't for the record books with their measuring systems then hunters wouldn't get to fix a number to their animals to have them compared and related to. -
Thanks for taking the time to write a great story of your hunt. Sounded like an awsome adventure with a great bull to boot.

Very nice outfit. Congratulations on nice ram.

What a great sheep. Congratulations.

Why stop with the wolf. Let's eliminate the mountain lion, bobcat, lynx, bears, foxes, any carnivorous animal. Then we can have it all for ourselves. That's what we are really talking about here isn't it? This is just another tune to the same song. One month it is this and the next it is that. In a couple of hundred years it will all be gone anyways. The frontier will just be a memory. I don't have the real answer to the wolf issue but most here don't either.
-
Well you all had better get used to it because they are here to stay whether you like it or not. And if there is a little bit of dog in them it will be bred out over generations, the same way the wolf was bred out of today's dog.

Congratulations, those are some very fine desert bucks.

Those are some dandies.

Great pictures of the dogs. I sure wish we had that kind of bird action down here. -
New Dog
Arizona Griz replied to AZcoyotehunter's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I have an English Setter coming in the late spring. She will be of the Classic style. Can't say how birdy she will be but I am looking forward in working with her.
