CHD: once again you make this a personal and emotional thread when its supposed to be about deer. I did call you out and you pointed out your lifetime membership etc......you pointed out how YOU are helping CW and ADA et al.....I could throw out the same and more financial support I have personally done but that is pointless...FYI I have three degrees, one in international marketing from International Christian University in Japan 1982, Management degreee from St. Martin's College and Marketing degree from St. Martin's College.......I paid my whole way through college, nobody in my family has.........I understand your statement about how hard it is, I did it..........I am not upset with Josh generalizing because he is right.........booksmarts does not nor will it ever replace common sense........Take an educated person like Todd Buck who has made his living off the Kaibab area with a tax supported job..........he hadnt even counted the actual live deer on the Kaibab..........I cannot sit back and give him a break because he has a degree, its just plain wrong management to not have a handle on what is going on in Todd's backyard...........as for strip projects.........there is one right now scheduled for next week.............get on the www.azdeer.org website and see what they need........I wont be there chris but alot of sportsmen will and it will be good for you to jump in........you have the fire now use it for a good purpose......As for what time I spend on wildlife.......just ask Amanda or wetmule or Muskrat or Bullwidgeon or Lark........I know I am spending alot of time that may or may not help me personally (I have never drawn an elk or muley tag in AZ for the 8 years I have lived here.) But if I dont yell and holler now, my kids Travis and Max will never have the opportunity........Lifetime memberships to ADA are great, but anyone can give money, time is what is so precious........ADA can get 1000.00 from anyone but your time will do more.........ADA board members are burnt out........I am burnt out.........new blood is needed but nobody steps forward.......we now have Sportsmen For Wildlife stepping in and I fear the whole state is going towards Landowner tags and big money........our opportunities keep drying up while we bicker............CHD, right now I have been involved in an email/letter writing campaign that would have been idealy suited for you, the senate bill 339 supporting states rights.........did you jump in and if not, maybe you could be the point man for issues like this.........it appears that this bill has passed through and working its way to George Bush's desk.........this will nulify the USO ruling and will be good for all of us.........we all need to be more informed and do our part where our personal strengths are best suited..........I dont know what my strengths are but I will try and keep speaking up for wildlife and do my part where I feel I can best help I dont want anymore peter measuring contest, just SOMEONE GET UP AND HELP, DONATE YOUR TIME AND EFFORTS TO A CAUSE WE ALL FEEL PASSIONATELY ABOUT......thanks.......Allen.......................

A big hearty congratulations to you and your wife............AT..........

Lee, I am only passing on info I receive from Arizona Deer Association or other groups that contact me. I really resent CHD coming on here like he is totally savvy on the strip and Kaibab when I havent seen his name come up under conservation nor spoke about by friends of mine who hunt these units year after year......I also resent his statement about the pictures on Josh's website........If Chris Darnell is so educated and worldly, he of all people should know that pictures are only so good.......satisfied customers are substantially better than pictures........example, two years ago I guided a client in Mexico (see muley crazy sonoran issue, client: Ben Ducek....) to a 195" muley buck......two weeks after the kill and before our article was wrote, someone called me to let me know the picture of the buck was on an Oregon outfitters website........I personally called the outfitter and had him remove the picture from his webpage.......he knew what he was doing and admitted it.........whats up Chris, would you have been impressed with guys web site????????............ease up, dont convince everyone else you are good by your mouth.......let your actions speak........as for the strip and Kaibab, there is an email right asking for volunteers to go up to the Kaibab and meet with AZGFD to look into future stuff we should do TOGETHER as sportsmen and Game management.........CHD needs to get up there and espouse his wisdom, or he could call Don Martin, Mohave sportsmen club and volunteer for the 13b water tank project that needs help.........basically Wetmule and Antlerboy are trying to mention to everyone that we need to get involved and get more informed about the sport that evokes so much emotion right now........focus your emotions into productive stuff not slamming others.........thanks for letting me vent............Allen Taylor.........

CHD: I dont know you and probably dont want to.....I take offense to your attack of Josh......you mention that carrying capacity is more important than education......I agree; with one caveat........the way in which someone or some organization determines carrying capacity can make a whole lot of difference in how the herd should be managed.......the game managers in Arizona have been looking at alot of "questionable" criteria to manage the Kaibab herd........in our Arizona Deer Association meetings many people have asked "how are you managing, what are you looking for? how are you estimating tag numbers etc......Kevin(wetmule) is one of the board members asking these questions of Duwane Schrouf, Steve Ferrell et al of the upper echelon game managers........one response from the managers had me gagging on their lack of homework.......they had not been doing arial surveys on the Kaibab to determine population numbers......they had been using 1960 data and extrapolating from that.........you have to agree that without field data that is current, you cannot put together as useful of a plan.......an arial survey was just done and numbers submitted by an independant Biologist group and guess what? AZGFD decided they would do NOTHING with this data for 2005........the cliffrose counts and everything else ADA spent money on using the biologist group LSD to compile the info was ignored.......guys like Josh Epperson, Duwane Adams, Dana Yount, Ryan Hatch etc......must all be wrong, their field time is not valuable?????? Have you volunteered to go up to the Kaibab or Strip for the projects going on????????? I guess where I am not understanding you is precisely this..........tell us what you are doing to help out with deer from your understanding of the problem, not just throwing out insults to make yourself look better..........Allen Taylor......

I personally look for a buck 100" or over and would shoot a 100" buck at first light on opening day.........of course I have a dream buck, 120"..........I may depending on how I feel, shoot something smaller or with "character" later in the hunt but pretty much want to hold out for or go home empty if the buck isnt over 100"......just my outlook.........Allen....

EVERYBODY JUMP IN ON THIS...........If you dont, then buy a mirror and bitch at yourself.........there are many many people that have put in alot of time and effort to help Arizona get relief from the USO 9th circuit ruling......if you dont call now or send emails then you dont deserve to hunt in AZ........harsh but a reality.......Allen......

A Few Strip and Kaibab Muleys
coueshunter replied to CHD's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Chris, that 3x4 buck from the west side was passed on by one of Duwane Adams clients prior to this guy shooting it. Kinda a neat coincidence.......I believe the man who shot that buck was supposed to be guided by USO but the guide was not familiar with the unit and couldnt get the client on a buck so the client went to a ground blind by water and this buck came in........nice buck........p.s. go to www.arizonabiggamehunting.com and you can see a couple more Kaibab monsters.........we killed 3 over 200" one beautiful 198" typical and one monster 221" .............love seeing big Kaibab bucks........thanks for posting..........Allen Taylor.......... -
JVS, I dont hunt 31 so must have been another guy.....take care.....Allen Taylor...

ADA banquet
coueshunter replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Amanda, remember I am in for two tickets for my son Travis and I.......lets get two tables if we can get enough CW people there.........Lets also get more people (like Marshall has) to get involved with ADA.......all of us are volunteer hunters that just want to ensure our kids have a opportunity in the future to enjoy the quality outdoor experience and big bucks Arizona has to offer.........Allen Taylor..... -
Corkin, its pretty hard to do a Do it Yourself type hunt in Mexico. It can be done but you will need to have contacts in Mexico to get your paperwork done etc......You can pretty much guide yourself if you tell the outfitter that you dont need a guide, but just a ranch hand to accompany you but your best bet is to just let an outfitter handle the hunt, paperwork etc.....you should expect hunts from $3,500.00 to $4,500.00 for coues from most outfitters.........be careful and interview the outfitters and make sure they have references......some ranches have been overhunted and the rates seem like a bargain........on this website there are some good outfitters.....check them out, make a few calls and dont wait too long because some are already booked for 2005.............best of success..........Allen Taylor.......

how many Banquits do you go to?
coueshunter replied to bowhunter4life's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Normally two events a year but cant afford more than one this year, the Arizona Deer Association banquet..........It sure seems that there is not very many people that volunteer their time to help out on all the planning for these annual events and that alone makes it hard for the conservation groups. Some people that cant afford to go could volunteer their time and get in free working a booth which would help.........Hope all groups raise the money they need this year...........Allen....... -

HELP.........
coueshunter replied to coueshunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I agree with you Kevin, there are some great people here on CW that can help out and volunteer.....come on people, lets give back a bit.......thanks to everyone who is making a difference........Allen........ -
I have been speaking to a few CW members and this post addresses our concern. Now more than ever the wildlife/conservation groups need sportspeoples help. There are major battles ongoing and there appears to be just a handfull of people who get out and do something for wildlife. Please, please get involved with Arizona Deer Association or another group. I bet Amanda can take applications right here or go to www.azdeer.org or call 602-395-DEER and join today. THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO MAINTAIN/ENHANCE OUR RESOURCE. In addition anyone who wants to volunteer to be on the board of directors, leave a message on the Deer number or email me. All the people on the board are volunteers and spend alot of time supporting wildlife. Some of these people need a break so jump up to the plate..........thanks.......Allen Taylor......

HELP.........
coueshunter replied to coueshunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Marshall will be a great addition to ADA. Marshall, as a side note you will meet some people involved in things that can help you. I really want you to meet Chris Denham and work with him for the Western Optics Hunter magazine. You also can help with the ADA newsletter, announcements, and many other necessary projects......thanks for jumping in. WETMULE really deserves our thanks everyone. Kevin has put in time for years and years and has never drawn his coveted strip tag but yet has been a volunteer for over 29 years. This isnt any butt kissing but rather a heart felt thank you for the behind the scenes stuff he has done to provide me with a hunting opportunity. Stanlely has taken up the youth and is performing admirably. PLEASE PLEASE get your friends, family etc....involved in wildlife before its TOO LATE..............Allen..... -

Petition against "Ranching for Wildlife"
coueshunter replied to Flash's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Sign me up. I can get alot of people to support this as well.......Maybe Amanda would put up some sort of specific page that all us members can sign and turn the document in or present to the AZGFD commissioners........I am truly worried about this Ranching For Wildlife proposal. I have read the proposal and it allows way too much room for questionable activities......If ranching for wildlife goes through, it will be the last nail in Arizona's coffin........Allen Taylor... -
J-Rod: Kirk Thornton has been emailing me some good game cam pics you guys have been getting.......smoke that lion and post a dead lion pic for me......LOL.......take care ..........Allen......

Mark, I would become a member of Arizona Deer Association for 25.00 and start going to meetings and network with people. Most everyone in ADA could help you out with contacts etc. Secondly I would contact outfitters and offer your camp help probably for free initially until they know your capabilities......I would make sure you have all the glass, tripods etc.......hunting stuff you will need to be self sufficient for the outfitter..........Volunteer for habitat improvement work that groups like ADA have going on right now.....anyway getting involved will help open doors for you........Allen Taylor........

The 3 bar study has all game managers confused. Basically AZGFD needs to step up predator control to increase our deer herds. AZGFD agrees this should happen and many conservation groups like ADA have been saying this for some time. ADA is paying for lion killing up on the strip with Jim Bedlion and it is slowly working. As to the 3Bar study, there is tremendous pressure on AZGFD to start killing tons more predators to mirror what is happening in the deer population in 3-Bar elsewhere in the state. I think alot of us believe our game department knows what it going on when in fact they arent necessarily managing in the best management mode as they could be. Arizona Deer Association just completed a paid for alternative study on the Kaibab. We counted deer numbers, browse cross sections etc.......and determined that the past herd management practices are wrong. The Commissioners challenged ADA to work with AZGFD and we are now completing that process. You all will see new stuff for the Kaibab and eventually other parts of the state. All of the changes are because AZGFD is listening to our group and figuring out more correct ways to manage our wildlife. I think working together will help out all in the years to come.....Allen Taylor......

Dan, I think the proposed changes make all the sense in the world. Thanks for coming on here and asking for input......Allen Taylor.......
