AZ Deer Assoc Hunter Clinic
coueshunter replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
This sounds like a great event that I hope CW people will invite a friend and bring the neighbor kids to. Last year the AZGFD and Stanley really outdid themselves for the kids and the speakers provide real life experiences that anyone can use. The best 10.00 you can spend...............Allen.......... -
Congrats...........I am envious, I havent killed one with a bow (never chased them with a bow, hopefully this year).......cant wait to see the pictures..........Allen......

Mule deer in Alaska
coueshunter replied to KGAINES's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I dont know about the muleys but I know that sitka blacktails were put on Kodiak as a transplant from the Charlotte Islands or something similar. Roosevelt elk were transplanted on the raspberry islands along with the rocky mountain goats. I also think Kodiak has a few caribou that I think were transplanted. -
Doug, Tim Tanner and his brother own Don's and they are very good reputable people. Start there and in my opinion I wouldnt go to B.M. or the AZ sportsman both on stapley/southern Mesa. The last two times I have tried to purchase items at these two stores, the service, pricing and overall way they treat you as a "Interuption" in their day is very sorry. I took a new hunter to both stores last weekend to get him and his son outfitted from socks, boots, pack, gun, bino's and basically was ignored for 10 minutes because the counter help was more interested in socializing with their buddies. I ended going to Sportsmans warehouse and combined the sale was over 700.00 for the gear not counting the gun. I guess you have to know someone to buy. Maybe AZ sportsmen will realize why they discontinued bows, fishing and half the square footage of the shop is because they have been indifferent for years and now there is alot of competition. Don's will treat you right and they have expanded their store........I am taking my personal gun to Don's and will direct business their way when I can........hope you find what your looking for.........AT.....

rivers west apparel
coueshunter replied to azhuntnut's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
How much is the stuff? where can you get it? I just took a new hunter out to sportsmans warehouse yesterday and I had him buy some mad dog stuff, pants and jacket uninsulated gortex type raingear in Hardwoods hd pattern and it was pretty inexpensive compared to what I paid four years ago. Pants at 50.00 jacket at 60.00. What does the rivers west run? thanks............Allen Taylor............p.s I need new gear for my Colorado hunt and would definitely consider this Rivers West...............Allen....... -
UltraMag, what company? That is the industry I have been in my whole life basically until I started this supply company. Environmental Filtration. Call me or shoot me an email so we hook up and scratch each others back. I have alot of contractors looking for more guys as you well know, and you may want some of the contacts I have. 602-454-2146.........Allen......

Eddie, there is nowhere near the problem with other hunters on the rifle hunt like there is on the bow "Free for all". Your biggest issue will be "are the deer down". As you well know this is all weather dependant. I have two friends that are going on this hunt and I am praying for weather for them right now. I cant go and help out, I will be in Colorado so I really hope it gets nasty, snowy etc. I was up there last season on the late hunt and some monsters were killed. I helped out in Duwane Adams camp and saw Dana Younts 221" and the two clients I helped with killed really nice bucks. 195" non-typical by Brent Hill and Dave Nygaard shot a beautiful 198" typical. I sure hope you get the weather and as you probably know now, your hunt and where you will be in the unit will all depend on the weather. Shoot me an email if I can help further........www.environmentalfiltration@msn.com

Red Rabbit: Doug, can you help out with an explanation in layman terms. I think I will use the Winchester Ballistic silver tips for muleys this year in Co. but want to make sure they actually penetrate then expend their respective energy. I seem to remember Bullwidgeon saying he uses them and they have done the job on bear, deer etc. I bought a couple boxes because Sportsmens Warehouse didnt have Hornaday SST. Tell me if the Silvertips are similar to the SST and if you think they are a good bullet for bigger stuff like muleys.........Bret, pitch in if you do use the silver tips...............Allen..

I need help convincing my sister in-law that it is safe as possible to go to Rocky Point. She has seen all the negative media on Nuevo Laredo and gang problems. Has anyone seen/heard any problems going to Rocky Point that would make it unsafe for a family to go down there on school break in October? Thanks...................Allen........

Ernesto, never never never apologize for your love of Jesus. Nobody here that matters has any problem with you. Take a deep breath and continue in your great positive moods. You are a valued person and your beliefs are similar to many people here including me. You are a good example and we want you around.............Allen Taylor......Brother in Christ..........God Bless everyone.............

Rocky Point Problems?
coueshunter replied to coueshunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Thanks guys. I go there all the time to, but with a freaked out sister in-law, I am trying to see if recently there has been any problems like what happened in Nuevo Laredo where quite a few federales were killed in a drug gang related issue. She lives in Texas and I think they saw reports of the Nuevo killings and she now doesnt want to go to Rocky Point..........Thanks.......AT....... -
Doug, it definitely isnt a money issue or beer issue. I dont drink, quit 7 years ago. You asked when they failed and I already told you, my wife lost two bulls in unit one last year during the depredation hunts. I along with two other guides filmed the shot behind the left front shoulder and exiting from the brisket. Lots of frothy lung blood and we figured first thing in the morning we would find him piled up. It was right at dark and we didnt want to push him. Anyway, after watching this happen in the field and questioning Duwane, I have an uncomfortable feeling and just wanted other field experience............thanks for the replies.......AT.......

I said buckhorn, but meant Elkhorn. From your Elkhorn ranch road you have about 30 or more miles till sasabe. That is alot of area. As an example there is a ranch at 4 miles north of the border called Santa Margarita, this is where I found a body. There has been alot of crossers coming through this area and then they disperse out by the time they get to Elkhorn. Many of the border crossers go west into the Reservation. You should just be careful. Wasnt arguing with you Jack, just providing info for anyone who goes down there. The problems arent limited to one hunting unit, they have moved further west from Nogales because of the increase in Border patrol and the baboquivari mountains make it tougher for the border patrol to watch...............Allen..

Shoot me an email with what units for elk/coues you need help with and I will shoot back some guys that may not be booked already........Allen...........
-
I agree with packhorse. I dont want to offend anyone but if you dont see illegals and lots of border patrol vehicles in and around 36c then you are not in the unit. There is trash from before buckhorn ranch all the way to the border. I wont spell out all the roads I hunt in and around but I found one body two years ago, call www.arizonahunterswhocare.com and see how many pounds of trash they picked up this past season, around 20 tons. This trash doesnt get there by itself. You dont need to be overly paranoid, but you must be cautious. My partner had two trucks come into his camp south of brown canyon last year at midnight with radio blarring, probably for a coyote pick up of hidden illegals. Nothing happened, the truck backed out, but this is all honest advice and I spend a bit of time in there, know a few guides that do as well and you just need to be cautious and camp next to other hunters............Allen.
-
I dont mean to rain on your parade, but most guides are already booked for the season. You need to tell us what animal, i.e. coues, elk, antelope, sheep, muley, javelina, buff etc.........there are always openings depending on the area you drew. I can tell you that there are tons of tagless guys who also call themselves guides you need to watch out for.........there are good guides listed on here you may want to holler at and get their opinion from. Duwane Adams - Arizona Big Game Hunting, Kirk Kelso- Pusch Ridge outfitters would be two good ones to holler at.......Post some more info and we will offer up our two cents.....Allen Taylor...........

My big problem is how my MOJO feels after watching a bull get away after being shot with partitions. I used core-lokt for years, being penniless and switched to partitions when I started re-loading in 1982 but after seeing that bull get away, I just know I need to switch so its more of a brain issue. I never ever lost an animal with partitions and still have about four boxes of 150grains but cant seem to want to take them. I think with all the idle time till season I just need to talk........LOL........on a side note, Duwane Adams has seen the punch through issue with partitions and told me about it which further screwed with my brain.........LOL.......I just need to drink a couple fifths of tequilla and then quit thinking about unimportant shoot and get out there and kill the buck of my dreams over 195...thanks for the responses.........hope you guys kill something youve dreamed of................AT..............
-
Lark, you are basically right but when a partition last year missed bones and passed through two elk my wife shot that are on video, I got a bit nervous and dont feel comfortable shooting them, maybe a mojo thing but need to change. Doug, I am going to take my .280 and picked up some 140grain silver tips but didnt want them to blow up on impact like everyone says about BT's. Anyway, just have a premium tag in my pocket and want to eliminate one more thing from my mind before I am out in the field.....thanks guys..........Allen.....

Look at the size of this cat!
coueshunter replied to CHD's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Siberian cat is a purebred. This is a Liger, it would not fall under normal catagories therefore would not be compared to any other species. It is unique..........As for the lady, she really looks like Craig Boddingtons wife. Anybody know if she is? just curious.........AT....... -
Jade, I understand your issue but put in another way, would you want Amanda asking how you run your company and designing a new way you run your business while you are out on a job? I dont mean this any other way than lets just let Amanda decide how she wants to handle this. CHD intends on stirring stuff up, its fun for him and thats his thing. He does have productive information mixed in with other stuff. Dont let him or anyone else rile you up, ingnore him when he pisses you off and chime in when you want. All of us (maybe just me) would like to be validated. Some more than others but basically this internet is only one facet of life in the 2000's. It is a source of info, entertainment and communication. Chris uses it in the manner he desires and I do the same. Let the irritating stuff just run off your back..............Allen Taylor.........

That is a good tag. I hunt that unit but have never drawn the late hunt. Last season there were some real nice deer taken by Duwane Adams camp. They shot a 120". If you want a good guide call him. 520-385-4995. If you are trying to do it yourself, the best advice would be to get in the unit as many times as you can, figure out access to areas that others will not be in. Make sure you have good 15x bino's, tripod and pack into areas that will have less people. Look up the unit on the AZGFD website, buy the BLM map "Sells" and start looking. The maps for the unit are not real good, they dont have forest service maps, its state land. There is access but you must drive around and learn it. The unit goes all the way to Mexico and be careful when you are close to the border because you can cross over a couple cattle guards and be in Mexico without knowing it. I was in there two years ago and didnt realize how far south I went. When you look up at the end of the day and see the lights of Sasabe NORTH of your position, it is a horrible feeling. I had my young son with me and hauled butt out of there. Anyway, know where you are at and keep your eyes open for drug runners out there. They will be the two/three guys together with backpacks hoofing it north. Best of luck..............Allen Taylor........
