    257 weatherby magnum

I shoot that gun as well. I use the 115 ballistic tips in it and really love the gun. It is plenty good for coues, antelope and muleys if you wanted to. I fell in love with the caliber a few years back and have never regretted it........Allen......

    .270 or .280

I believe if you are really into reloading, the .280 can and will outperform the .270. Now that the ammunition is more readily available, it is a nice caliber. I bought mine back in 1982 and you couldnt find factory loads but could handload alot of different bullet weights. Now you can get a decent selection of factory loads. As to what someone else said about getting bullets in any small town, they are right. If you buy the gun, buy a good supply of the bullets from DNR sports, cabelas, sportsmans etc. so when you are going on a trip, you have plenty of ammo because not a ton of stores carry it.......Allen Taylor.......

    Thank Jesus

You guys, I need to fess up. I am a moderator on here but dont know how to eliminate a post so I just erase it and put something good on there. This poster had some sort of add for Viagra and some other drug stuff so I just erased it and put a wholesome message in. Glad there are alot of good responses........Allen.......

    Binoculars

I wouldnt even consider the steiner 15 or 20x80's . I had a pair as my first set of big glass and they are way too heavy and bulky. The above suggestions are good, look at Minox if you want big glass with good objective or possibly Fujinon. You can save a few bucks compared to Swarovski but not give up alot on quality...........Allen.......

    Coosefan is Alive!

Glad you made it back even with a lighter "wallet". I know how scary those bears look, on Kodiak I about pooped my pants when a couple got real close to me through the alder thickets around some creeks. I was so amazed at the vast/rugged country, you feel so small and helpless alot of the times. It is a trip I will make again but like you said if you use an "outfitter", try and make sure they know their stuff. I was self guided for Sitka Blacktails so I kinda knew it was up to me other than the boat I stayed on. Your trip was a tougher one flying out and having to set up camp........congrats on your great bull..........Allen.......

Great looking moose. Sorry what you went through but being that far away, you gotta do what you did and make the best of it. Mexico can be that way as you know. Glad you guys got the moose and had a great time...........Allen..........

    Your First Rifle?

My first rifle was/is a .300 savage model 99. My dad bought it used for me from a fireman buddy. It was built in 1947 and originally had a weaver K-4 scope on it. I still have it today, have passed it down to my sons. I killed 4 blacktails and one muley with it till I upgraded to my first new rifle, a win mod 70 .280 in 1984........Allen...........

    tripod adapter

You guys really need to look at the Jim White adapter amanda sells on here. It works much better than the Swarovski one (I have three of them) and quite using the Swarovski one and use only the Jim White adapter. It is lighter, stronger and holds your bino's more secure to the tripod. I assume Jim makes these for other types of bino's than just Swaro's. Maybe Amanda can post an article or cut sheet on the various bino's jims adapters work with. It is really worth spending the 30 - 50 bucks on this adapter........Allen.......

    Elk Decoy

I have used them the past three years not as the major tactic, but just carrying it with me & when we get in on a bull and then setting up. I have had good bulls 330" ish come within 10 yards and seem to be comfortable as well as distracted with the decoy. It can help draw the bulls attention away from you so you spook less bulls..............Allen........

    Hunt of a Lifetime

I am pretty sure ADA will have a good showing of the HOAL people at next weeks Deer Hunters clinic. I spoke with Duwane Adams www.arizonabiggamehunting.com and he will do what he can to support HOAL. He is speaking at the clinic and I plan on being there to meet some of the new faces. As to ADA supporting HOAL, it looks like people like Pete Cimellaro and others are fully in support of HOAL, and want someone to come to the Sept 19th board meeting to present their cause (hint, hint, hint, ask for financial support)........LOL........anyway, if ADA supports HOAL, this can be a great support for ongoing HOAL projects that all hunters/outfitters/guides will back..............Allen.......
  21. Amanda/wetmule: I have had a couple email discussions with Don Martin about Hunt of a Lifetime that is in need of some extra guides and money to help this worthwhile cause. From what I understand about Hunt of a Lifetime, it is for kids that have a terminal illness and who want to have a chance at hunting before their time on earth is up. I feel real passionate about kids and especially ones with terminal illness, so I thought between all the people here on CW and the Arizona Deer Association, maybe we could get things rolling and fund 2,000.00 for this worthy cause. I personally will help out on the hunts in areas I know like Kaibab, unit 1, etc... and I know between all the good people like Coosefan, wetmule, AZguide, CouesKrazy, etc that we have enough people that can guide or help out to make the hunts a success for the kids. Anyway, I dont know where to take it from here other than Don Martin needs a little help with funding/guides etc and between all of us I know we can make it happen. Maybe bring it up in the next ADA meeting. Pete C. is an aquaintance or good friend of Don's, maybe SFW could fund this.......................Allen Taylor............

    cow tags

The new mexico tag situation would be best since we live in Mesa, AZ. It would be less of a drive. Let me know who to call to buy one of these........Thanks again, Allen Taylor.......

    Hunt of a Lifetime

I just exchanged some emails with the ADA people (Terry Herndon in particular) and HOA needs to get some people to this years ADA deer hunters clinic and set up a table. You can have the table and entry all free and pass on the great work HOA is doing. I am pretty sure Kevin Harris-ADA president will get the message and vote around to get some money over to HOA. I challenge Pete Cimellaro to get some money from SFW over to HOA as well. I know Chris Denham can help "lobby" Pete. I doubt there will be any objections to funneling non-profit money from one organization to another for this cause. I havent heard anything else back from Don Martin about whether he needs any more help from outfitters/guides but as to getting a few dollars over to HOA from our local conservation groups, I think the ball is rolling..........Allen.....
  25. Amanda, I love the detail pictures and the pictures of everything else out in Gods beautiful world. I guess I am not manly enough, but really like the flowers, sunsets, thunderclouds, eagles, osprey pictures etc. I was out yesterday hunting doves and the flowers on the barrell cactus are just fantastic. Like Jacks picture up above, they are orange colored and great. We were out by Queen valley and man did the lighting/thunder/rain come in last night...............it was awesome. Thanks for the pictures..............Allen............
