Heat waves affect 10x, 15x, etc. anytime you are glassing farther out in the morning, once it starts warming up, you will be fighting heat waves. I would be most concerned with clarity and weight. If you are looking at identical brand of bino's and your choice is between 16 and 20 power, I would look at how heavy they both are and select appropriately. I personally glass behind 15x on my tripod and can see quite a ways out.........hope some of this helps.......Allen..........

I expected the Kaibab to go to something like this, but other units were not in my mindset. I know I have mentioned this many times, but people need to get more involved in wildlife issues, go to the commission meetings, belong to a conservation group and spend time on the committees. In todays day, it isnt enough to just send in your membership dues and expect alot back from the 25.00 or so. TIME donated to conservation projects and committee meetings is really where the results are made............sorry if this is a old message but get involved, be informed if you want to retain some of the rights we have............Allen Tayor.............

I havent used the Outdoorsmans but do use Jim White's and love it. I got tired of Swarovski's adapter. Jims adapter holds the bino's much more firm to the adapter/tripod. I just looked up a picture of the Outdoorsmans and it looks real similar to Jims. Either way you go, it will be a step up from Swarovski's. I still have two Swarovski adapters and just dont use them after using Jim White's.........Allen Taylor..........

Headache: I would give Duwane a call and ask him about his map service. I know you probably want to go up and do it all by yourself, but by getting some advice and spots indicated on a map from a man who has guided the Kaibab for 30 years, the gas cost alone you will save is worth the price of the map service. I was on the hunt that the above pictures are from and we saw tons of deer on both the east and west side. If this is all true, then I dont think they should have a second chance. This year I sent in "youth tag" price for deer for my son and the application was rejected because his application was for a general hunt. I didnt like it but am living by the rules. According to AZGFD, they had too many phone calls to return to try and correct errors/incorrect payment on the youth hunts...........Allen Taylor...............

You may be surprised at how many live right on the flats in some units. I have seen some of the biggest bucks right out living in the flats, I think they feel more protected and have shade in spots all day and just like the flats. There is food (mesquite beans, cholla, barrell cactus fruit) so they have cover and food..........Allen.........

This meeting as I understand it is for the purpose of all Sportspeople to be heard, open dialogue with AZGFD regarding "hunter recruitment & retention" as well as for us to understand what the department is thinking/implementing. This is a fantastic opportunity to discuss issues that we have pounded here on the the website, to get your voice heard. The meeting is from 1:00 - 5:00 (I know this is a problem for many working stiff's like me). There will be an Arizona Deer Association meeting later tomorrow at 6:00 at the AZGFD headquarters right up the street on Greenway. This is two opportunities for everyone to show up and be heard. I had the best customer service happen over the last couple of days from Sportsman's warehouse in Mesa. I screwed up setting up my double bull blind, the Matrix 360 and had to take it back to the store. Anyway, Gary the hunting department manager called me twice today to let me know that they couldnt fix my blind so they are sending it back to Double Bull and giving me a direct exchange blind free of charge. I cant tell you how nice it feels to be treated like this. I know we have had a few discussions about service at Cabela's, BassPro and Sportsmans warehouse, but for my money, I am spending it at the Warehouse..............Thanks.................Allen Taylor.............

Doc, you have received great advice. I personally use Jim Whites' fluid head and a Velbon EFL4 tripod that Jim White customized (lightened up). The tripod is really tough and the legs are a 3 position type that allows you to adjust for whatever terrain you are on. In addition to that, the tripod can be used standing up, I believe it extends up to 64". I use it up on the Kaibab standing up muley hunting as well as for all coues deer sitting down glassing. I think Amanda sells it here or you can get it from Jim for around 170.00. I would also seriously look into the carbon "slik" tripod that Carl was talking about. You could also call Jim White up and discuss this issue with him and have him put a package together that you buy through Amanda here................Allen Taylor...........

Devin, you may want to look at Zeiss 15x45's american bino's for around your neck. They run around 800.00 but there is a sponsor on here that has some demo's for sale for around 675.00. These bino's are light and definitely can be free handed. I wouldnt even try to use the Swarovski 15x56 free hand, you cannot use them effectively that way based on the weight. I have 15x56's and use them on a tripod and the 10x42's for around my neck, but those 15x45 Zeiss are a great pair of bino's especially for the money and they give you a bit more magnification than 10's. They are not a replacement for tripod mounted 15x56 or Zeiss 15x60's but rather a good "around the neck" pair of bino's...........Allen........

I just recieved a new DVD by Duwane Adams on hunting Monster bull elk. I watched the DVD sunday night and was impressed with all the fantastic bulls they have on it. There are great hunts on this DVD and some great footage, couple of real great hunt sequences showing the shot and the animals going down. One hunt in particular was guided by Lee Hamblin and the bull is just blowing blood out like a gusher (pg-13 rating)..... Really was a great primer for getting the juices flowing for this year.
