Who says you need a Dec. tag to kill biggin's?
coueshunter replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Jim, fantastic buck........congratulations............he is a 100" buck...............AT............ -
Thanks everyone for sharing in our joy. I cannot explain how great it is to have your son out in the field, enjoying the excitement of pre-hunt planning, strategy during the hunt, the beauty of the hills, the animals and everything. I can still see the smile on Travis' face while we were making the stalk, the emotions after the bull was down, the contentment once we got back to camp.........This is really a great time with the kids.....................Allen Taylor.............

A fantastic job. I sure know what you mean about the feelings involved in getting your son his first. My oldest son was 10 when he shot his first big game animal and man was that a thrill. Congratulations..............Allen..........

I am thinking about using the Hornady SST for my sons elk hunt. I will have him use the .280 but as for bullet choice, I am leaning towards these bullets for elk. Any opinions/ field experience with these? Also Norma makes a 156 grain factory load that I thought about. Any ideas??????.........thanks.........Allen.........

There is a guy named Jim Shafsna sp? He kicks out some real monsters. You also have a couple good outfits in Oregon. I would get the book "hunting trophy blacktails" by Cameron Hanes and he has some outfitters listed in there. You also may look for the website on Columbians, there is a website (dont remember the name) and they are very specific like CW..........hope this helps............Allen Taylor..........

Southern, I had never had a problem with partitions for years but two years ago, my wife lost an elk that we have on video where the shot was, right behind the right front shoulder. There was lung foamy blood, big patches of it and yet that elk went about two miles. It was found later in the year by a guide freind of mine. I am real leary of partitions now and with an upcoming hunt for my son, I am switching from partitions. Barnes X is another bullet I am thinking about...........Allen............

How Do We Make Changes in AG&FD?????
coueshunter replied to m77's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
The most effective way to make an impact and effect change is to show up at commission meetings, go to your conservation group meetings and be heard. The last two or so years have shown that even being heard from by your conservation group representative is not enough, you must show up in force at the commission meetings. I seriously doubt we want commissioners who are voted in (at the present time) because the voting/hunter ranks are so low that we would most likely get anti types voted in. Right now with the appointed commissioners, we at least have a sway in who is there. I will beat the dead horse and say again, all of us must get involved. PHYSICAL PRESENCE in addition to behind the scenes activities is the only way to effect change..........Allen.......... -

Tell me what happened with everyone on this past opening weekend. My story goes as follows: Friday night I was able to get in 1 hour hunt with my son (I picked him up after school and we hauled butt up to our area). We were fortunate, a great buck came within 39 yards and bedded down, but we were blocked by tree limbs so we waited for him to come in but he got spooked by some loud noise coming from the direction of the road down the ridge so we didnt get the shot opportunity we hoped for but sure got to look over a nice buck (90 ish). Saturday we were blown off the mountain, the winds were at least 50mph. Sunday a.m. we had three bucks come in at ( 17 yards) and when my son moved to get his bow, he ticked the blind support braces and the noise spooked the deer but regardless, we had a great time and saw some nice deer. What happened with everyone else??......tell me some stories.......Allen Taylor.......

I am just like like you new game camera guys, I started doing this about 3 months ago and started with the WILDVIEW 4 megapixl camera. I have been totally pleased, got lots of pictures, use a SD card so I can go in and exchange cards, the camera stands up to weather, and if someone steals it, I have 99.00 into it..........may be a good starting point for you..........Allen Taylor....... -

first trailcam photos
coueshunter replied to azpackhorse's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
AZpackhorse, great job. I know what you mean about this becoming addicting. This is my first year with trail cameras and I am having as much fun checking and changing the camera as I do hunting. I was out hunting this weekend and changed the cards out and have a monster bear and coati mundi coming into one of my areas along with some good bucks. It is addicting...........thanks for posting...........Allen Taylor.........
