Coueshunter bags his first with a bow!
coueshunter replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I was happy about getting this deer and sad that my son couldnt be there opening day. I had went up thursday afternoon and set up my blind and camp. I shot this buck friday morning at 11:00. I had one big buck come in at 10:00 but he came in so quite and quick that I just sat there with my heart pumping waiting for him to put his head down so I could get my bow and draw, but then the buck walked towards me at 15 yards and he busted me, I think because the sun was shinning into the blind. Needless to say, he took off while I just kept dreaming about him. He was right around 90". This buck that I shot came in really quiet but from a direction that allowed me to pick up my bow while he was behind a tree and draw. He only went about 25 yards and piled up........ It was a really great experience and I cant wait till January. ....... Travis and I sat the blind in a different location for 11.5 hours saturday and did not see one deer, so we will be back up this next weekend..........I hope all your hunts go well this year.......Thanks.............Allen Taylor........... -

I would love to, but hopefully my son and I are cleaning up some coues deer on the bowhunt...........Allen............ -
I just spoke to one of the AZGFD enforcement officers and his position was that "attractants" are defined as anything like salt, corn, food, etc.......water is not included in this. He mentioned that many people have shot bears over salt and have said they "are not using the salt/corn" to attract the bear but this logic does not fly with AZGFD. So my answer is to not shoot a bear over my salt...........Allen.............

I have a question after reading the regulations, can I shoot a bear from my blind during archery bow hunt if I have salt and water set out for the deer? I have bears that have set off my camera and would like my son to shoot a bear, but dont want to get cited for baiting.....................Thoughts...........thanks.............Allen......... ...
-
I have 5 different bears that have all been just passing by. I have my camera on video and have yet to see them lick the salt. I would think they would get into to the salt, they just havent yet on my set ups..........Allen..........
-
I guess my other issue is that "substance" could also be construed to equal the water tank I built. I have salt and water that I built. I dont believe the bears are hitting the salt and you cannot remove the salt that has leached into the ground so anyway it seems like any wildlife officer should be able to answer this question, not just the one for the unit you are hunting in. Hopefully someone who frequents this site can answer this question so we all are hunting legally.........thanks...........Allen..................

Great idea Amanda. We need to pass on the info about the sponsors, help them round up clients and showcase their talents...........great pictures, quality animals.............Thanks Nichols...............Allen Taylor...........

33 has tons of couesdeer. Just remember you are rut hunting in January so glassing will be the key. 33 is a big unit, get maps and just pick a spot, get up high and be set up before first light. Hopefully you have 15x bino's and a good tripod. Hope you do well.............Allen..........

Lark, I pondered this question for awhile and ended up getting Leica's pinmaster rangefinder a few years ago. I paid something like $300.00 on line at Cabela's for it. In low light situations Bushnell's did not seem to pick up the animals for me. I also had bushnells side by side and the readings were quite a bit different than each other. I got to where it concerned me and didnt have 600.00 to spend, but the 300.00 was closer to what I paid years ago for the bushnell and I love the clarity/accuracy of Leica..............

Cowards Strike Again!!
coueshunter replied to AZ402's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Stan, I am really sorry this crud has happened to you. It bugs me each time I check my cameras to know all the hard work/effort you put in to this can be erased by one uncaring person. Last year somebody messed with one of my cameras but didnt take it. I dont want to spend big bucks on a camera with all this theft going on. Sorry for your problems..........Allen........... -
All signed up for my son & I............Thanks Doug and Amanda for this contest and all the work that goes into it............Amanda, hit me up to get some donations if you guys need help..........Allen..........

Mineral attractant?
coueshunter replied to coueschaser3's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Outdsman, I looked at those yesterday before I went up to check cameras, add salt etc. Do you think they work any better than the bricks? Maybe those rocks add more smell to the air to bring more deer in? I wondered about buying a few of those and just wasnt sure if they were any better than salt bricks. Any opinions would be appreciated.................Allen.............. -
Mineral attractant?
coueshunter replied to coueschaser3's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
The deer cane liquid works good for me. I would get salt in the brick for and dig a small depression, put the brick in and pour the deer cane liquid on the brick. We just got back in from checking our cameras and we use the deer cane liquid on our salt and have quite a few pics each time we check. Hope you do well...........Allen.......... -
Anybody draw the Kaibab?????/ I have put in for years and always hope to draw, but NADA again this year. Anybody on here draw or know anyone who drew????? Allen Taylor.............

Early season for me & my son: 1. We hunt a ground blind over minerals we set up. I also created water so my thought is I got deer coming in to either water or minerals or both. I give them options. Also they seem less spooky at this water source than the known tanks that predators get used to hunting around. 2. I hunt at around 6000 feet and the location is right in their bedding areas so the deer come in at any time during the day. 3. Best times seem to be 8:30am - 1:00 then right before dark. 4. Early season for me is much more predictable, the bucks are bachelor grouped up and intent on food/water/safety. Late season they are moving around so much more and are not as predictable 5. I have really enjoyed the game cameras I set up last year, they show me that deer are really hitting the spot. I also set my cameras on video which gives me a 10 second clip and I can watch them seeing their responses/habits at the salt and water. I have noticed that it is really important to have 2-3 salt spots spread out around 5 ft from each other so when the dominate buck comes in, the other bucks can also have their salt so you keep more deer in your shooting area. 6. You need to keep your blind 25 yards away minimum from the salt/water. I was too close last year and any noise/movement bumps the deer.

Jim, I hope you shoot a toad.........I just read the great article you have in hunting illustrated, great job fantastic bulls..........now you get to pull the trigger on a monster muley........I have 6 bonus points now for deer, gotta wait for a premium tag now............luckily my son Travis has an october tag so we will shoot one during bow season and get to rifle hunt as well....................congrats again...................AT.................

I cant believe Cody drew this tag again, congrats to him. I have tried for year (and will keep trying) to draw the Kaibab. I am jealous and happy for everyone that drew.......Charlie......as for the map service, you will be smart to do this, it will cost more in gas to scout it once and possibly not have it figured out where to hunt. Duwane's number is 520-385-4995..........you could get his Kaibab DVD and book here to help get you through the waiting period.........LOL...............hope Charlie and Cody both shoot monsters...............Allen Taylor.........
