    Need a new boot

I loved the Vasque Zephyr GTX, cant find it anymore. I have Danner frontiers I wear for work and just bought a pair of Danner Talus I am going to try out. If the Talus doesnt work out my next step is the Kenntrek. I have used all different brands and most just dont seem to hold up under the rocky/rough conditions AZ throws at them. The Talus are all leather and look tough, but we will see this year............

    Duwane Adams - ArizonaBigGameHunting.com

I met Duwane about 10 years ago when I was researching about coues deer. Then and now, he has been an absolute wealth of information, always willing to help someone learn how to hunt better. Over the years I have been to numerous camps for Elk, Muleys, Coues and Antelope. Duwane has taught me more about animals, glassing and how to think than I would have ever thought possible. He consistently kills monsters, and is an absolutely fantastic individual. Just signing up for his glassing lesson would provide any hunter with more tips/tactics than you can imagine. Call him and find out for yourself...............Allen Taylor..............

  6. I just spoke with Celeste and to clarify things: AZGFD and the commission are not going to do anything about "banning salt" anytime soon. Tomorrow is a general discussion about potential rule changes. Celeste wanted to make sure everyone knows that nothing will be decided and that the "public opinion" phase of this whole process legally must come out before any rules are changed. This made me feel alot better, I still stated my opinion for the record and am supposed to have a call returned by Wakeling or Mr. Day to discuss the salt issue. ..........Allen........

Zeiss 15x45 Conquest... Has anyone used them?

I have used both and in my opinion, you are comparing apples to oranges. The Zeiss is a great bino used for around the neck like a 10x42 but it gives you 5 more in power. It is not the same as using 15x56 on a tripod, there is no comparison. Your 15x58 will blow the 15x45 out of the water on a tripod. I personally really really like the 15x45 as a replacement to my 10x42 SLC's around my neck, but the 15x45 cannot replace my 15x56 SLC's on a tripod. I am getting my son a pair of the 15x45 so he quits using my 10x42's, but I will let him save up for the 15x56 Tripod bino's............Allen.........

    Unit 21, 24A, 24B

I would suggest just getting out one weekend and driving around to one of the units you mentioned and find "typical coues habitat". I did this a couple years back when I switched from 36c because of how long the drive was, and drove into 24b just to find something closer to Mesa. I drove around one weekend and found spots. This will probably be our last time to set up salt/minerals so I would go out in the next few weeks, look around and find some out of the way places in one of those units that look "deery" and set up some minerals. The bow season opens mid-december and you will then have your spot for the august hunt.............Allen...............

    Changing Seasons

Jim, there are so many topics to discuss in the post, so many questions we average hunters have, but one thing in particular seems to stand out to me. AZGFD is looking at RECRUITMENT = new hunters (I believe thats a good thing) while many of your existing clients feel unheard, overlooked and totally ignored. These feelings are primarily a result of the last few online surveys that many of us worked hard to get to our groups of people and then it felt as if all our responses were ignored and AZGFD just implemented what they intended to do in the first place. #2 alot of us have seen arrogance amongst the commissioners, totally ignoring our conservation groups and acting on their own opinions. These two items I mention cause a dramatic affect on retention as well as participation in conservation groups where a substantial amount of AZGFD funding comes from. Please dont take this post as accusation, I patiently am looking forward to you helping me understand why these feelings linger, or help me see where AZGFD is going. I know that most all AZGFD employees work very hard at their jobs, and they dont control the commissioners, but there still seems to be distrust between hunters and the department that maybe some of it can be squelched by logical respones to these questions. Thank you...............respectfully...........Allen Taylor...............
  18. Well, friday night we went up and hunted for about 1 1/2 hours before dark. We didnt see anything friday night, but my son Travis had high spirits for friday morning. We set out friday, got into the blind at 5:30 and man was the wind blowing. I bet it blew close to 60mph for about 1 hour. We waited it out, the blind almost blew over a couple times, but come about 8:00 things settled down. At 8:30 a.m. I saw deer and Travis got ready. Two bucks came in, and Travis drew. Man was I excited, waiting for the shot....................he shoots.........arrow flys about 2 feet over the buck and they both scatter...........Travis is really mad, shaking like a leaf in the wind..........I calm him down, let him know this happens to alot of people and tell him he will have another chance...........presto, 1/2 hour later another single buck comes in, but startles and is gone for about 10 minutes then sneaks back in down wind. I am talking to Travis to "dont move", "draw when his head is behind the trees", etc. etc... this buck presents the shot, Travis draws, realeases............buck ducks the shot...............Travis is so mad at this point, but at least he had two shot opportunities................I tell him how quick/fast those bucks are, and the next chance he gets.................AIM LOW..............we had a great hunt, alot of fun, father and son stuff...................lessons learned...........................Allen & Travis Taylor...........................p.s. The firs buck was around 80" which may have helped the shaking..........second buck was a forked horn with eye guards.................

    Dos Doubler Question

hopefully I can help. I bought two doublers around 7 years ago to try this exact thing, and it did not work. once I put the doublers on, the bino's would not close down far enough to allow both eyes to look through them evenly at the same time. In addition to this, the doubler even by itself does not project the same crisp bright image the plain bino's do. For me it did not work....................Allen................

    Steiner 20X80???????? Need Help!!

about 8 years ago I bought the Steiners thinking I was saving money, and they were very heavy and no where near as good as some other brands............If you really need to save money, there are some bino's like minox that are pretty good, but if you can hold out and save, maybe look for used ones............Swarovski's are hard to beat..........Allen Taylor.............

    Leaving deer attractant out

Lance/Clay, I called and spoke to a couple officers about this before bow season and the general answer was you cant kill a bear over your salt. I have quite a few bears coming in and wanted to be sure before hand. I dont agree with the law and either did one of the officers, but you will get cited if you shoot a bear over your salt............Allen Taylor.........
