    36A late November hunt

Great job. Nice buck and good story. I am curious about your gun/load. That is what I plan on using for long range shooting. Are you happy with the .280? Thanks.............Allen..............

    New setup

Guys, I used a huskemaw set up on my last hunt. 7mm with the Huskemaw scope that has yardage on the turrets. I am going to set up a gun/scope combo and want to know: 1. I currently own 2 different guns I need advice from you on whether either one will be sufficient or should I buy a 7mm A. Model 70 chambered in .280 synthetic stock B. Wthby 7mag wood stock 2. Scope: Do I need 20x or is 14x sufficient? I want the right scope to shoot out to 700yards. A. What scopes/turrets have a good yardage indicator system? Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.........Allen Taylor...............

    New setup

Thanks guys for all the advice. I think i am going to use my .280 and buy a scope. Ballistically I dont see a problem with this caliber (unless someone can tell me different) I will get turrets for 2 different altitudes. 1 for Kaibab and one lower.......Thanks.........

    2010 Coues deer hunt

Great buck and great story. Did you find the pack????? I know that feeling ..........Allen..........

    Kaibab

By the way, Chef mentioned my "pack fiasco". The story: We had just come out of the woods and I was being real careful with Duwane's Huskemaw gun/scope so i took my pack off the front seat, set it on the ground by the truck and was putting the gun back in its case. Duwane sees some deer crossing the road so I grab the gun back out of its case and move towards the road to see. Duwane says he thinks there was a buck, "jump in the truck and we will drive up and look" we jump in the truck, drive up there and cant see them. They went down into the timber. We do a u turn and head on back to camp. Once we get there, I am tired/hungry/sleepy and want to get my junk out of the truck so I reach in the back seat "no pack". I ask Luke, where is my pack, I think he is screwing with me. He says he isnt and i get this sinking feeling...................I have left my pack alongside where we were up on top, someone has already taken it. What do I tell my wife? How do I get another tag? Tomorrow is Sunday, no AZGFD office will be open. Man was I bumming.......We jump back in the truck and head on up. We get to the spot and luckily dont drive in and risk running over it if its still there. I walk over with my headlight and find it.......WOW......what a relief... I had Swarovski 15's, 10's a Leica range finder, my Kaibab tag and lots of other stuff in there. It would have been a nightmare. I thank God that he led me back to my pack. Thats the rest of the st ory. I woke up the next morning, pack in hand and Killed my buck...................................Allen.........

    Kaibab

The feeling of being up there is fantastic. It was kinda weird being the one with a tag in my pocket.....LOL.......you get excited seeing bucks before the season, watching what they are doing, the lip curls, pushing does a little, you hope the rut kicks in full swing, you have been praying for snow to push all the deer down, You pray its not windy, you pray for a monster...............cant sleep very well before the opener. All fantastic feelings/emotions...... I had a great time. I now cant wait to draw again (if ever) What great memories.........................Allen..............

    New setup

mmI would really like to use the .280 would there be much of a disadvantage between it and a 7mm? I would prefer to not use the weatherby because of the wood stock. I just like the 280 better...Thoughts?..........AT.......

    7mm wanted

I think the .257 is just not big enough for long range mule deer shots. I want a bit more bullet. After alot of talking with Duwane and luke Adams, they had some clients last year that wounded a buck at longer range with .257 and the buck the guy killed took 4 shots. Not good penetration on the animal at 500 yards. I think i will use the .257 for coues/antelope and put together another rig for bigger deer/elk. I posted some questions on the Long range shooting section here so if anyone can give some advice, that would be great...........Allen.......

Best Offroad/ Hyway tires for Coues Country

I have always had great luck with BFG's until now with my 2500 HD. I burned through these in 35000 miles. I think the weight of the 2500 is too much for the BFG at's............I put another set on because I didnt research any other options, but will look into the Hankook. I love the BFG's on 1/2 ton trucks...............Allen..........

    More hunters ???

I was up on the Kaibab helping out for the early hunt last weekend. There were people everywhere. Lots and lots of road hunters, but once we hiked in a ways, the people thinned out. Lots of small bucks being shot. Kinda bothers me (even though it shouldnt) that small bucks are shot. Little forked horns.............Allen...........

    ADA meeting

Everyone, there is a meeting tonight at Bass Pro. 5:30 Arizona Deer Association. This non-profit organization basically exists to watch over all arizona deer. They have fundraisers to raise extra money for the AZGFD, they dole out money for water projects etc.... The ADA really really really needs volunteers to help out. The annual dues people send in dont do much, but the volunteers are what really helps Arizona. I could go on about the help with political issues like the USO fiasco years ago. etc.......Please Please show up tonight and bring a friend....................Allen Taylor..................

    ADA meeting

Meeting went well. Chef was there and I brought a friend. ADA really really needs some volunteers to either be on the board or just help out with Youth program, deer clinic, banquets, habitat projects etc........anyone who wants to call me about it sure can.....602-454-2146.........Allen Taylor..........
