I just called and spoke with "Karen" she said that greenspeak area will open tonight. All area on the north side of 260 is open now and the "intent" is to open most of the unit in the next few weeks for scouting and fire wood pick up. I got the impression that the "bear study" that is currently going on will provide the data necessary for the AZGFD and Forest service to work together on not closing the unit down, but to get an agreement to allow for hunting this year. I watched the podcast and got the impression that the commission would do everything in their power to ensure that the units are open for hunting. Did I miss something?

I just spoke with both forest service offices and "karen" said greenspeak area may open tonight. She also said the intent is to have "alot" of the area open for wood collecting and scouting over the next few weeks. I hung up the phone feeling good that progress is being made. Allen...............

I love having carpet especially on the late hunts, it is good. Try getting ahold of a carpet installation company who upon removing "old" carpet, you go pick it up from them so they dont have to haul it off........I have pictures on the Mule Deer section of Chef and My hunt on the Kaibab......check out the "Man Cave" we set up in the 12x20 tent....complete with carpet throughout.............AT..........

I would stick with fixed blades on elk. You wait too long for a tag to take the risk with mechanicals. I have heard enough potential and real field examples of problems with mechanicals.......Allen......

Yes, you would be better off hunting here on the res. Saves you gas etc...you get to see some monsters while you are hunting. I took my son up 2 years ago and it was alot of fun. He could only shoot a raghorn, but at least it was a bull and we didnt spend alot on gas........Allen.....

I will answer this using last year and this year: Last year I bought a tent stove I used on the Kaibab hunt, a used Swaro spotter (didnt use) and some other tent related stuff to make the Kaibab hunt more enjoyable. This year I am looking into a zeiss scope for a long range gun...500yard...I want turretts with yardage.....Looked into the sitka clothes, but cant see spending that kind of money. Even Russel has very pricey clothes. Unless you are backpacking way in, i still cant justify that kind of money.......Allen........

I use the Alaska Guide model. They make them for 10's and 15's....great straps etc The padding keeps the bino's much more protected while stored in your backpack............Allen Taylor

Lark, based on all the responses about "no elk" in unit 1, I just mailed my tag to USO in NewMexico, I figure they can take someone on a overpriced, underqualified outfitted hunt and help out the economy.........I am going to put in for 42M early bull from now on........LOL........Thanks.........AT..........

Amanda, I have the sept (early) hunt. I will be with Duwane, so we will be camping together.........whoopie....I am going after the "one last bull" left in the unit. Mr. Quimby is going to keep tabs on him all summer for me.........LOL..............Allen..............
