    whens the actual day...

I've been checking at least five times a day. I hope they draw soon, my teenager has reversed roles, telling me to quit hogging the computer. Unless I draw a late tag, I'll need to get my hunting time off before all my co-workers. I'd hate to put in early and get approved for time off, and not have the right permit. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!! Burn area might be good

Its been my experience that the grazers do best after a fire. Elk will thrive in areas that have burned, because the grass and forbes come back so well. Browsers (sp) seem to have a harder time, since the mahogany and bitter brush take longer to recover. I don't know about reseeding in grains for Coues; it might work. Good luck to all in the draw!

    BC Entry

Has anyone entered a pick up skull into the B&C record books? Several years ago I picked up a lion kill that netted 1125/8. The official measurer I used said I should enter it in the books as a pickup. I have never been a record book person, mainly because my bucks usually fall short, so I don't know the process. Would it be worth it you any of you to enter one you found? Seems like a nice way to honor a regal buck felled by a lion. I would be interested in your opinions.
  4. I've hunted both units, mainly when they were combined years ago. We killed nice bucks in the December hunts in Unit 29, mostly after Christmas. 30A always seems too conjested. With limited access everyone gravatates to the access points and it becomes combat hunting. Unit 29 had alot of hunters, but it had more country to cover. Craig.

    On-Line application deadline extended

I sent my in application in several weeks ago, but it did not give me a session or conformation number, but would not let me re-apply either. I almost developed an ulcer worrying that I had screwed up my only chance. I called the G&F and she looked up my account and said all looked good on their end. Still not being a believer I called my credit card company just to make sure AG&F had charged my card. I'll still be on Prilosec until I get my permit in the mail. Craig.

    Deer Sightings

It depends on the area you're hunting and the amount of hunting pressure. I have hunted close to the roads and have seen few deer. While backpacking into the "backcounty" I have seen up to 20 -25 deer a day. Conditions were the same in both areas, but either the deer moved from the accessable area or the deer learn to avoid the hunters in the high pressure areas. Since the drought, the numbers of deer I saw this year was down to about 10 a day. I did have a day high this year of 21 with 9 being bucks of various size. C.

    Flushing -vs- Glassing

In a perfect world everyone would glass a good buck, make a good stalk, and make a one shot kill. I, on the other hand, have glassed till my eyes bugged out and missed bucks bedded in cover. Then when I re-postition myself on another ridge, I end up jumping the bedded buck. I have killed numerous coues bucks while they climb the other side of the canyon or my ridge, after I've bumped them. I have a pair of Ziess binoculars that I prefer to do the walking for me, but sometimes hitting all the small draws and canyons on foot produce good bucks. If I can figure out my scanner, I'll send some photos from this year. My dad and I kicked out two good bucks in one canyon. Our bucks dropped within thirty yards of each other. Sometimes it works out. C.
