just a reminder for everyone... may be a good idea to take an extra set of underwear this season... my buddy(Scott) and I set up for turkey in a deep canyon Ive been workin for the last 2 months. We were about 70 yrd apart. I let a quick gentle call out and stopped to wait for a while and watch.... after a bit of time passed, I realized it was about time to call it quits and get headed back to camp, so I let out 2 long series of cottontail, as a hailmary for a bear. I quit the call and was about to give the "its over" sound, when I see this big chocolate boar ramblin in about 50 yrds behind scott, headed towards him. I stopped callin to let him come in... and he stops to look... so i start back up and now hes good to go, comin on in! Scott sees the bear comin full speed, he pivots for the shot, and lets one fly, about 30yrs out. It was the best shot he could get in that situation, basically shot him quartered toward him in the neck(trapezius area) on the bears left side. The arrow went about 12" into the bear. It does a backflip, about faces and tries to jet up a tree and misses!!! craziest thing I have seen to date!!! The bear tears outta there up the canyon sides! The next thing I see is Scott haulin' over to where I was, shakin like a chihuahua!!!! We wait about 30 min or so and start lookin for blood. We find quarter size spots 4-5 at a time every 4 feet or so. After about 4 hrs of trackin this sucker and spending up to 30 min at a few stops on our hands and knees lookin for any blood speck left on pine needles or brushes of blood on small bushes, we find the broadhead portion of the arrow. Scott was shooting a 100gr mechanical. Around 5:30pm we decided to give up and felt like we were chasin a bloody nose! We figure he hit the bears shoulder blade stopping the arrow short and the blood started clottin... What a freakin letdown, very anti-climatic, nevertheless a wakeup call that ANYTHING can happen... so be prepared! and make sure you have an extra change of clothes!!! bear slashes at tree, tryin to climb it... wish he would've Scotts arrow remnants after 3 hrs of trackn the sucka! kinda weird we never found the nocked end

thx Larry and RonG for the nod on the Outdoorsmans adapter... on a side note... that place(Outdoorsmans) is a trap, I wore out the magnetic strip on my visa in there!!! beware...
-
that looks like the one I shot... it was that color cause it was still soaked in placenta!!!! just kiddin... cool pics
-
thanks for the info lark... we trailed him for about a mile, whenever he was in the creek bed(on rocks) we could easily follow him.... several times he tried going uphill, but would return to flat stuff quickly...once he got about a mile out he headed uphill into the pines, lost his blood in the needles... next time we wont wait to track a bear
-
anyone know this guy? if so, tell him thank you for not swipin' my camera...I guess there are a few good folk out there... hope he got his limit of birds... oops, I think(hope) he was hunting for rabbits, according to the time stamp on the camera

utterly SICK!!!!
-
the best investment I have made yet...!!!
-
In the past I never really thought much about all the options/functions available to benefit me/my shot... as long as it had a cross and was magnified that was all I needed... but over the last several yrs I have realized optics are as important as being drawn for a tag!!! so, like the topic states, which one and why?
-
now that is a wicked lookin buck... I like it
-
Just wonderin how you use the blind... Window netting down or up? I'm out here right now in it and my buddy is sitting in my tree stand.
-
ok larry, which scope did YOU buy?
-
Well I have several rifles I may use it on, hopefully I can transfer the scope to the others as needed(coues to elk rifle)... shots out to 600yrds possibly, but more then likely 300-500. Cals range from 6mm, 270, 308, 300wsm...all rem700 actions and would be willing to keep it on either the low or hi cal rifles. As for budget? 1K max, would like to keep it under $700 if possible... it all depends on what I come across or what someone is willing to sell it for

would one reticle be better then another if turrets are used? theres the bdc, which to me, seems to have too many variables, but the mil-dot and varmint reticles...??? yall like one more then the other for over 300yrd?
-
go gettem bro.... and good luck
-

I've been hunting for a long time now, this is my 1st deer and with a bow too! Ive ignorantly hit a few bucks with bad rifle shots and never found them, so after hearing crap from my friends and wife over the years I decided it was time to use my knife this year. I dont care if he still has warm milk around his lips!!! These trail cam pics were taken right before/after carbon and steel flew pic#1 doe behind the spike 25 yards and I was 20' up a pine... pic#2 doe still in the way, but moving... the fork is trippin out and wont get broadside pic#3 Only open shot, the fork was spooked by my son readin a book in his ground blind... Kohl never knew what happened I shot seconds after this pic... I was at full draw for almost 50 sec... I could see the seconds on my watch pic#4 the arrow after the shot pics#5 & 6 my son and I he ran 35 yards and down double lung last pic... field dressin the ol'boy right where he lay! anyone notice anything outta order here?
