You're conflating the issues here. Nobody is concerned about a delay in mailing tags or arguing they won't mail tags by April 2, 2021. I'm saying the delay is in conducting the draw itself. It has been the customary practice of AZGFD to hit cards the day following the deadline to update card information. That means they usually begin the draw right after the credit card deadline. They clearly did not do this this year (for whatever reason).

Here's another thought. Sure, maybe there were 18,000 more applications this year. But AZGFD was clearly aware of that fact as of the deadline (February 9, 2021). Maybe they are using the increase as an excuse for the delay, even though it might not be the actual reason . We all know there have been many issues with the application/draw process this year. It would not surprise me at all if it turns out there are significant underlying issues at play that are unrelated to the additional 18,000.

Yes I agree that it is a both sides of the aisle issue. It's too easy these days to complaint until it's too late to take meaningful action. That's why I would be shocked if the antis were actually applying for the draw, but it is still an interesting theory for the increase in applications this year.

This is an interesting theory. Usually these folks don't put their money where their mouth is. They usually prefer to complain online and elect Dems. Maybe they are getting smarter. Making Hunter Ed mandatory (especially for new applicants) could help prevent this practice.

Yes/No/Yes. The almighty dollar is obviously the motivating factor for AZGFD. Quality of the hunts, game management, etc. are all secondary concerns.

Yes it's a battle between reasonable-minded folks relocating here to escape terrible policies and ignorant people coming because of weather. and increasingly liberal politics. I wish the people coming here for the weather/liberal politics would give LA some consideration!

Yes - would be interesting to see data regarding applied vs. buying points. I suspect the majority of the 18,000 increase are new applicants resulting from a recent relocation.

Have to believe that at least some of the 18,000 new applications is related to the flood of people that moved to AZ in 2020. Probably some of those 18,000 were NR that did not put in in 2020 and then became R in 2020 and put in for 2021 draw.

As far as I've read/heard, they still haven't started hitting cards yet.

Heard they are using the Dominion voting machines for the 2021 draw. So the draw results can be as legitimate as the election results.
