Way to go Daniel!! Sounds like it was a tough hunt but you kept at it until you got one.

Thanks for the well wishes. My son took me out to dinner tonight after dove hunting, of course Dad had to pay as he is 11 and does not have any money with him.

I was contacted by a City of Tucson employee while out near some of their property in Avra valley this morning and he wanted to make sure we knew that city property in 37A is private property and they will be out in force issuing tickets to anyone hunting on the city property.

Bowhunting Rabbits
NRS replied to mulie hunter's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
My son shot one Sunday, and the ears were covered with ticks, some the size of the end joint of my little finger. We will probably wait until we get some cold weather before we start eating any. -
First you say you drew a unit 27 December tag, then you say you drew a 36A December tag. Which one is it??? The law saws only one draw at a time, and they have not offered 2 draw tags a year in 20 years.

The Wildlife manager for the area surveyed some whitetail in there last year, and it was wt buck chasing a md doe or a md buck chasing a wt doe. Either way it means the population of WT is low and the chance of a hybrid is there.

A friend thought he had one on his trail cam, but it was just a big black feral house cat with a fluffy tail.

Is there Poison oak or Ivy in the Mingus Mountains?
NRS replied to EBB's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
Grew up in Prescott and worked Mingus Mtn for FS for about 5 years, never saw any there. If you go south to Pine Mtn, you will find some in Gap Creek and Ash Creek where there is permanent water. -
I was watching the fire related websites and it looked like the sent in crews and air tankers as soon as it was discovered. The fire was reported at 2:00 PM and by 8:00 PM they had ordered a type 2 team to suppress it, which is about the fastest I have ever seen a team ordered for a fire. Their planning levels dictate what they can do. They were in planning level 4 when it started. Here is the description of it. Preparedness Level 4 Description - Resources are fully and frequently being mobilized in some areas; initial attack is unsuccessful on a daily basis. Aviation resources are critical to success. Some dispatch areas are extremely busy and IMT fires occurring regularly. Resources have to be actively managed and agencies consulted regularly. Large fire behavior is high or extreme; threats to life and property are high, as is agency and fire manager concern. When they are in this level, they never let a fire go, especially when the wind is blowing hard. They are now in preparedness level 5 as of today. Preparedness Level 5 Description - Fire resources throughout the SW Area are almost fully committed. Higher level of initial attack is unsuccessful. Use of aviation resources is essential for initial attack and large fire support. Numerous dispatch areas are at full operational level. Almost or all SW IMTs are in use. Large fire behavior is high or extreme; threats to life and property are multiple and complex. Agency and fire manager concern is consuming. For the SWA to be at PL-5, at least two of the following must be met: Several zones are experiencing major fires, and critical national resources are fully utilized. Additional firefighting resources and support may not be available, or their arrival is delayed for multiple operational periods. Initial attack success is compromised in some areas. Most SWA Incident Management Teams are committed to incidents within the Southwest Area. Support to the National Response Plan may be high. Fire behavior is severe enough that control efforts are often compromised due to advanced or extreme fire behavior or extreme spotting conditions. These conditions are widespread in the geographic area. The military or national guard is needed or may be tasked for assistance.

This website has good info on fires in the Az and N Mex. http://gacc.nifc.gov/swcc/predictive/intelligence/intelligence.htm You can go to the Google Earth maps in the lower left hand side and open the current map and zoom on an a fire and see exactly where it is burning. The maps are updated twice a day by satellite imagery.

Nothing for me, but my son drew his first ever big game tag, unit 1,2c juniors cow elk. Friends have unit 1 archery bull tags which will help with scouting.

The rabbit stew was great! I was busy processing rabbits and almost missed out on it because it was so popular with everybody.

Yes, Kolin and I were at the Jr Jack Kamp and had a great time. This was his first one of his four from the Saturday afternoon hunt. He ended up with the heaviest one for the camp at 9 pounds 15 ounces. One kid ended up with 12, and these are the big antelope jacks with lots of meat on them. It was great meeting the ladies and their families and the kids all had a great time. I think I even saw Scottyboy do a drive-by on the desert table last night. I can't say enough good things about the Safari Club and the Game and Fish staff that put the camp on for the kids, they all did an excellent job with the whole camp. I recommend this camp for anybody that wants to get their kids started on hunting.

Great pictures. I got an e-mail from someone out that way that said "Ski Silverbell" with pictures.

Bill, I changed to the IBP Basic at the bottom left side of the page and it is white background, black letters and light blue banner. Much easier to read

You can download the forms off the G&F website and it is a fillable form so you can type the information in and do not have to worry about your hunt numbers being read wrong.

Two-Year Wildlife Violations Probe Leads To More Than $20,000 in Fines SAN SIMON, Ariz. – A two-year investigation of Robert Allen Dozier of San Simon recently led the Arizona Game and Fish Commission to fine him $17,500 and revoke his hunting, fishing and trapping privileges for 20 years. The investigation also led the commission in December to revoke for five years the hunting licenses of Steve Dozier, also of San Simon, and Donna Dozier Wagner of Vail. In addition, the investigation of the Doziers and Wagner by the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD) led to the family members being fined in Greenlee and Cochise counties more than $2,632 for wildlife violations. Robert Allen Dozier, 36, was found guilty in the Greenlee County Justice Court for unlawfully taking a mule deer doe during a closed season and littering while hunting. He was also found guilty in Cochise County Justice Courts for taking a mule deer buck during a closed season, possessing an unlawfully taken mule deer buck, and possessing an unlawfully taken Whitetail buck. Both bucks were illegally taken south of San Simon. Steve Dozier, 64, was found guilty in Greenlee Justice Court for allowing Robert Dozier, his son, to use his archery antlerless elk tag. Donna Wagner, 42, was found guilty in the Greenlee Justice Court for take mule deer during closed season during the 2009 antlerless archery elk hunt. "The commission’s action to revoke the Doziers’ and Wagner’s license privileges has far-reaching implications,” said Regional Supervisor Raul Vega of AGFD Tucson. “Arizona is a member of the Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact with 32 other states and seven Canadian provinces. Until their license privileges are restored in Arizona, they will not be able to legally hunt in any of those states or provinces.” Anyone having information pertaining to the unlawful take of wildlife or other violations of wildlife laws are urged to call the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Operation Game Thief toll-free hotline at 1-800-352-0700. Calls can remain confidential upon request, and callers may be eligible for cash rewards.
