I had the fall HAM hunt in 36A, saw illegals all three trips down. Three of them did not have backpacks with them and were trying to hitch hike to the main road so they could get a free ride back to Mexico and pick another load of dope.

Anyone else have this happen?!
NRS replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Yep! one pig hunt, 162 deer in 1 day with one monster (carp) - one deer hunt, 24 pigs in one little bowl about 5 acres in size. -
I have found in the past that all I have to do in southern az is just put the head in the middle of the wood pile where the dogs can not get to it and the bugs will find it. If you need some starter bugs, just go find a will dried road kill bunny and put him in with the skull. Of course the bugs will be more active in the summer months, and might be scarce in the winter.

The drooling and foaming at the mouth is symptomatic of rabies. If you were in the southeast part of the state, there is always a fairly high incidence of rabies, usually in skunks and foxes, so the deer could have been picked it up from something in the area. I would definitely let G&F know!!

Great card and Manners for dogs!!! May You and Yours have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. -
the old boy is a nice ram, looks like about a 163 with the chip in the left horn about where the first quarter measurement would be.

Whats the dumbest thing you've done?
NRS replied to TATAat27's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Glad to see that I am not the only one that has fallen asleep on a log on a trail. I had a Dec coues tag many years ago in unit 32 and after a full morning of climbing the mountain to glass, I ate lunch laying on a log next to the trail in the nice warm sun. The sun and full stomach did their magic and I fell asleep with my legs across the trail. I was awakened by a doe kicking pine needles on me and snorting as she skidded to a stop and turned and jumped over the log I was laying on. Then I realized that the rutting buck that was hot on her tail followed her over the log and into the thicket before I could even grab my rifle. Needless to say, I dont sleep in the trail where a buck can step on me any more. -
Too Funny!! I hope e everyone has a Merry Christmas, and may the jolly old elf bring everyone the gift of their dreams while they are all snuggled warmly in their beds with dreams of giant cousii dancing in their heads.

$12 million settlement against developer
NRS replied to .270's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Fortunately this is not the end of his legal problems, the federal government has two more cases pending against him for the damages he has done to federal land and resources. -
CW.com Bumper sticker?

I like the second one. The underline definitely sets it off and says that it is all in fun. -
"But when I saw the picture and it looks like the kid is sitting way back behind the cow and holding his hands in the air like they are sitting on the cows back I'm pretty sure it was just meant to be a good joke picture " I have to agree, the pine needles in front of the cow are 4 inches long, which means she is not as big as she looks. I think Jim is pulling some legs here

Possession of lead ammo prohibited in condor range
NRS replied to billrquimby's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Even though I have posted here in support of using non-lead bullets on big game in condor feeding areas, I have to agree with Desert Bull that this appears to be a back door way of banning hunting. Almost all kids are introduced to hunting by chasing rabbits with a .22. If the younger generation can't be taught to hunt, the sport will die out. :( -
My friends told me not to go because they know of my addictive nature, they know how I crave gettin' up on a glassin' point with spectacular views in any direction, they know I love sittin' behind my tripod mounted Swaro's for hours on end.......... I should have listened to em'. Welcome to the addiction, it only took me 23 years to get my desert tag, now I have to work on getting my rocky tag. If you really need to feed your addiction, join the Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society. Its a great way to feed your addiction and give back tothe wildlife of this state through building wildlife waters in sheep country. you also meet some great people.

Small game hunting

Live trapping works to get the one that is in a particular spot, but once it is removed, another will move into the open habitat. So far I have removed 30 packrats from around the feed shed this year, and they keep coming. To effectively remove the problem, you have to remove the habitat...anything that will serve as cover and all packrat nests on your property. Leaving the hood up works well too, we leave all the vehicle hoods up at work and have not had problems since. If you need live traps, Sportsmansguide.com has the best prices on live traps. the packrat sized (5x5x10) are about $12.00 each. Just put some peanut butter inside where they have to step on the trigger to get to it. They are also fond of John Lyons Senior Horse pellets if you have horses. -
I have packed a S&W Mod 19 with 6" barrel for years, it has harvested 6 javalina so far, last 3 were 1 shot kills out to 40 Yds. Like other people have said, .38 specials make good target practice ammo.

Lark, I appreciate your concern for my health, I have not drank any of the sugary kind in over 40 years, and that kind from Colorado gives me headaches. (besides I like the darker stuff that has some body to it) Having studied and worked as a biologist ever since shortly after I stopped drinking the sugar filled Koolaid, I am very aware of the biochemical pathways that occur when lead is ingested into the human body, or any other living body for that matter. All I am saying is that if you look at some of the x-rays in the study, you will see more than 100 tiny lead fragments in some of the carcasses AFTER the guts were removed. " the bullet passes through or stays in the meat somewhere" Its the parts that stay in the meat somewhere that I worry about and dont want my 6 year old son ingesting. Dont get me wrong, I still use lead bullets in my muzzleloader.
