Congratulations on a fine bull. I think I have camped at that same spot while helping a friend with his rocky hunt up there a couple of years ago. The day I pulled out of camp, there was two big bulls with about 40 cows bugling their heads off on the 12 of NOVEMBER in that meadow next to camp.

that is an Ornate Box turtle, not a desert tortoise. they are actually not as common as the desert tortoises are so it is even cooler that you found one of them. Great pictures of the young hunters and all of the "trophies".

Unit 21- HELP !!!... First time in Unit
NRS replied to Michael1's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
OK, I'll share with you. You get into the unit and find this dirt road. Go down it to where it's washed out and pick your way through the washout. There's a great big mountain on your right , but don't hunt that one. It's all mulies. You keep going another 3.47 miles and there is a barrel cactus on your right with the yellow fruit on it. (They love this stuff) Now park just around the bend and hike up that draw. When you get to where the two washes come together take the right fork about a quarter of a mile and then hike uphill to the bench above the creek. Now there is a big mesquite there and it's a good place to have your morning movement. (make sure you put the paper under the small flat rock. The small one, not the big one, there's a present under the big one) Now about a hundred yards up the hill is a ledge which is a real good place to set up your big glass. Now look across the drainage and you'll see some thick brush. It's fairly open below this down to the wash. The secret here is that there is a seep down there and the deer will go across the open area from the cover to water. Now I've never personally seen a deer here but it sure looks like it has potential. EBB that's the best description of how to get to 21 ever, but its actually spot on. except by the time October gets here there might be one or two more washouts... an the lil yellow fruits might be getting dried up. also the little rock may also have been used My Friend... I think you are mistaken, that is the directions to the bear finding spot, not the coues finding spot. To get to the deer, you go 7.43 miles past the washout and there is a barrel cactus on your LEFT with the yellow fruit on it.  -
My son and I were on a friends antelope hunt in 2b last weekend. Whenever the lightning got close we got into the truck and waited it out. I was making sure my son was learning the proper thing to do around storms. As you can see from my avatar, my tent was one of the taller things around.

Here is a report from a friend that I went out calling coyotes with Saturday. It says it all! Went out Saturday with (NRS), and tried our luck despite the extreme heat warnings. We did 4 stands. Called in 1 coyote on the second stand and nothing on the others. Here’s the story on the coyote. As soon as the e-caller started, other coyotes began howling at us. We howled back a few times then switched to puppy distress. A coyote arrived within 3 minutes and ran straight for the decoy. It smelled the decoy and took off. I yelled "STOP", but it just kept going. I shot and missed as it ran by me broadside about 30 yards away. The coyote looked like a 4 legged torpedo as it speeded up and headed straight for Darrell. Darrell then connected with a spectacular frontal chest shot using his 223 with the coyote running full blast right at him. The coyote piled up and did several cartwheels before it finally stopped rolling 145 feet DRT from Darrell. We continued calling hoping that another coyote would come in. About 20 minutes later, we stopped calling. Darrell and I then walked over to the coyote. As we both stood beside the coyote, I congratulated Darrell for making such a great shot. I then picked up the coyote by the hind leg and OH shoot. The coyote came back to life, its head flipped around, it jumped to its feet, and it took off running. This was bazaar! For 20 minutes, that coyote was motionless and never even twitched. When we approached, its eyes were closed and it did not appear to be breathing. Best guess is the coyote knocked itself out when it cart-wheeled several times then regained consciousness after I picked it up. Darrell tried shooting it again as it ran off, but missed 3 times. I had left my gun by the tree. We tried to track it down and were unsuccessful. Here are photos showing the skid marks where the coyote piled up and the pool of blood it left behind. It got away after I got my hands on it....DANG IT!!!!

Since it was my friends calling spot, I will just have to let you keep guessing. If you want an area with lots of coyotes, go up to St Johns. I was out and about in that area this weekend and could have shot at least 3 with a pistol as they just strolled by with out any calling.

Brian, I knew both your father and Gary, and they were both good men and good friends. It is great that there is a memorial to both of them up on the mountains that they both loved and worked hard to make better wildlife habitat for all of us to enjoy. May their memories not be forgotten. Darrell Tersey

Now that's funny! Bob +1 What do they do with the meat? Donate it to the homeless? haven't you ever heard of gato taco's?

Yes, it is in 37a.

those are not Rocky Mtn bighorns, they are Desert bighorns. You can tell by the saguaro's in the background. :D Actually Rockies are bigger bodied and a little darker than the deserts as well. Two ewes and two lambs equal good reproduction, that is always good to see.

Thanks Brent, Since dove season always opens the next day, my B'days are always good ones. :D

Hope it is not too wet in 2B this weekend, taking my son up to help a friend with a muzzle loader speed goat hunt. It will be my sons first real life hunting trip.

Looks like he already has enough bulk to get him through the winter already.

For all of yall who have pursued bighorn sheep in Arizona.
NRS replied to shylopolito's topic in Bighorn Sheep Hunting
About the size of deer, pointed on one end, dented on the other. -
My son was playing around and had me take some pictures of him. I realized when I saw this one that he had caught something from Scottyboy even though he has never been anywhere near him. He has the same dreams, a trophy coues buck, an engraved double rifle, and dreams of desert bighorns swirling around his head.

What is this rifle worth? Pre 64 Win
NRS replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
go to gunbroker.com and type in pre 64 into the search engine, There is a .375 H&H in better shape for $1600 with 3 days to go and the reserve is not met. There are others of various calibers and condition that might help you come up with a value you both can agree on.
