trail cam
bustedknuckleinc replied to PRED8R's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I bought one of there cameras and love it. It will take pics about every 15 sec and has alot of different option setings. Day/night still shots or movie 15sec and 20 sec trail mode 10sec and 30 sec itervales between pics as well as 1,2,5,10, and 20 minutes between pics. as I am sure you already know the camera is also removable so when its not in the feild the wife can use it at least thats how I explained it. The camera box is very strong and with the mounting system no one can open it with the cable around it. The inside guts of the camera box are attached to a metal bracket that is attached to the eye bolts any attemped to pry the camera off will most likly brake the controll board. not saying that is good but at least the jerk who steals or trys to steal it wont get away with a working cam. my feelings are that with the way the world is today if someone wants it bad enough they will find a way to get. so all you can do is make it as hard as possible and hope they wont have the tools needed to get it. I had the cheap 35mm stealth cams before this and have never used any of the other brands but the way i understould it is that they take at least a min to store a pic before they can take another so if the first deer is a doe who knows what might have been following her. the heat motion sensor is adjustable so when mounting it it cant have any tree branches in front of it and you need to set it up and watch it to see if it takes pics of nothing(about 15 to 20 min). once it is adjusted right you will love it. I am amazed at how much you can zoom in on the deer to gt a better look. another posative is that the cam has a viewing screen so you can see the pics right where you set it up and wont need to buy a reader or wait till you get home . Just show up opening morning and see what has been coming in. With lithium batts it will last a long time. I bought a 4gb memory stick and can take about 1100 6 mega pix pictures with it. you can take more if you lower the mega pixs but you would need a realy good spot to do that. Hope this helps you decide. -

Camera Thief in Unit 9 still going strong!
bustedknuckleinc replied to azsagebrush's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Why doesnt everybody watch each others back. Carve a name and number into the cameras if somebody finds one they can simply call that person and ask them if they left there camera at such and such place. If they say no then someone has obviously stole the camera and then put it out for there own use. The caller if still in the area could retrieve the camera and give it to the rightfull owner or tell the owner where the thief put the camera after they stole at. Just a thought. -
I was in 23s this weekend and everbody and there brother and his best buddy were out as well. I herd that a couple of bears had been taken opening morning. I think it is safe to say that the quota will be reached so get out soon if you want to go.

I have recently found a honeyhole (salt lick) for deer. The problem is that I am not responsable for making it a honeyhole. However i have hunted this area since a was ten with my father (13 years). I was planning on hunting this area this archery season then made contact with the individual who started the honeyhole. He gives me the impresssion that he wont hunt the intire three weeks but feels that it is his spot since he started the lick and doesnt't want anyone to ruin is future chances. The lick is less than a 100 yards off of a hiking trail. Do I have a right to hunt there as long as no one is there first. what would you do. P.s. I could start a new lick in the area but that would give the deer more choices and wouldn't make sense.

Because of things out of my control I ended up not having a lot of time off work this year during deer season which left me with no time to do a backpacking trip this year. I got a bull tag this year which we all know doesn’t happen very often. The little time off I have was to be used for that. I have changed my mind do to the fact that I can’t stay out of the woods even for a bull tag. I will hunt the first weekend and then some, and will backpack like I always do. If unsuccessful I will only hunt the following weekends SAT/SUN. I was simply looking four an alternative place to hunt that doesn’t take the amount of time that backpacking does. If you happen to score the first 8 days of the season I wouldn’t mind hunting the spot. If you want it for you or your family I guess I understand that. Please let me know. P.s. I am in the area as much as you say you are and could save you trips and dough. Think about it.

Weather you believe me or not I could care less, but I have hunted this trail for 13 years. I found the spot last year while passing through. The individual who was at the lick hunting looked like he was looking at something and was peaking around the bush he was sitting in front of. Not wanting to disturb him I stopped a bit and waited. After a few minutes I figured he was just looking for deer he never looked in my direction so I just moved on with my hunting partner. Later that year I returned to that spot by accident while pursing some deer then I saw why there were so many deer hanging around. There was no fresh salt just a big hole. After returning several times since then did I see that fresh salt had been placed? I never wanted to hunt there if someone was going to be there but didn’t want to overlook the opportunity if the individual who placed the salt there was not going to be there the entire three weeks. If I remember right your buddy has a Tacoma and arrives super early which is fine that is called effort. I figured if I was going to hunt there I would arrive late giving the other guy ample opportunity to arrive like he did before and would go some where else if he was there. I will not be hunting this lick or any trails that lead to it. However you and your buddy might want to assure all who read this topic that this is the only lick you have established and that there not statewide if you are expecting to be the only one using them. It only seems fair. Thank you for responding and good luck to you and your buddy this season kill a toad for me.

I don’t know about water tanks being naturally occurring and not man made but my feelings are that if I want to hunt a certain area (AKA water hole or Salt lick) and I go there and someone has a fresh blind or tree stand up assuming that it is not left there year round I would never barge in and set up on top of them that would be WRONG. But if it is left there year round you are essentially saying that every season this is my spot which is fine if you (the one who puts down the salt) are going to personally be there all 3 weeks(21 days). If not then you should not be against anyone else hunting there. After all its public land. You know where this salt lick is obviously. Trip on trail with salt 1/4 mile Trip off trail with salt 100 yds Distance back to truck 1/4 mile on well groomed hiking trail Not a whole lot of work for someone who is going to probably scout up there anyways. So please don’t make it sound like it’s hard to do. I just did not want to add more salt to the area if possible. The last thing that I want to do is piss anyone off its not why we hunt. I can assure you that the spot is yours and I will hunt where I always have.

Dont want to be a jerk but I have hunted this trail for thirteen years have probabley seen my different vehicles over the years while I was backpacking to hunt, this is very difficult and was looking for a spot to camp and hunt. Whitetails have a small territory and making a different lick would give them a choice. But repectfully there is no such thing as claimed territory on public land.

Yea thats the last thing I want

dont know why everyone is so worked up about this issue because you are not permited to hunt in any elk unit for any other animal other than elk unless you have an elk tag.
