Best choice for hunting/field sidearm
ruppart replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Having carried several different pistols in the field while scouting/hunting/hiking over the past 16 years, I definitely throw my vote with glock/xd/m&p crowd. I've carried several revolvers (4" 629, 5.5" Redhawk, 4" GP100, etc.), but found none of them were as comfortable by day's end (or week's end) as my Glock 17 or Glock 20. Plus, as stated by others, reloads were easier to carry and use if needed. Further, as many folks have stated, in AZ your biggest potential threat by far is from 2-legged critters. To me, the newer style of stricker-fired semi-autos is better suited to this task. Regardless of your choice in weapon (semi or revolver, caliber, etc.), I would suggest the following: 1.) Invest in a quality belt and quality holster from places like thewilderness (belts) and blade-tech or sidearmor (kydex holsters). Don't be the dumba** that spends hundreds on a handgun only to carry it in a cheap $20 holster/$5 belt, then complains because it's uncomfortable to carry. One of the biggest reasons we have handguns instead of rifles is because they're convient and comfortable to carry. Don't negate that advantage with cheap/crappy gear. As a bonus, many modern kydex holster makers (blade-tech being a good example) allow multiple attachment systems so they can go on your belt, pack belt, MOLLE attachments, whatever. 2.) Invest in some professional training. If you have a $1000 budget, spend $600 on a gun/holster/belt, then the other $400 on training (like a local 2-day course through Glendale Community College, as an example). Better yet, borrow a buddy's gun (in a model you're interested in) to take the class. Do that a couple of times with a couple different models, and you'll have a very good idea what you actually want to carry & use should you really have to use it. Plus, you'll have a better clue about what happens in a situation where you really have to use it... 3.) Practice with the weapon you decide on. A lot. Every time you think about buying a different gun, buy another 1K in ammo & use it up in the gun you have. Once you've put 5K or more through your gun, then figure out if you really want/need something else. 4.) Don't buy more gun than you can shoot. If you shoot better with a 9mm than a 40 or 45, buy it. Over the last 10 years especially, practical performance is virtually identical between these three common defensive rounds. That means the biggest factor will be how fast the user can employ his sidearm of choice accurately. -
Got this gun a little over a year ago for my kids, but they much prefer shooting 22 rifles or 22 revolvers. So, this one's going up for sale. It's only had about 200 rounds put through it, and is in excellent condition. Includes the original box, paper work, etc. $250 for anyone in the Phoenix area (face to face), or $250 + shipping to your FFL for anyone else. Send me a PM if you have any additional questions.

(NOTE: This is a repost from a earlier ad. Had a couple of folks state they wanted the scope, but then drop off the face of the earth. After a month of waiting, I don't think they're "coming back" This would make a great scope for a late bull hunt, if someone was in need). Scope is in good shape, with a few small scratches and a small ding. No discernable ring marks. Glass is perfect. Has spent it's life so far atop a R700 30-06. Only reason to sell is because I'm going a different direction with the rifle it's on (ie smaller!). Asking $375 local, or plus actual shipping if CONUS. If you're looking for a VX-III at a VX-II price, this is your chance!

FS: H4350 & R15 powder, small rifle primers, 223 brass
ruppart replied to ruppart's topic in Classified Ads
The H4350 is spoken for. Everything else is still up for grabs. -
Brass: Approx. 1000 rounds of once-fired 223 brass, mixed headstamp (FC, PMP, PMC, IMI, LC, etc.). Has been run through a tumbler to clean it up, and is mostly sorted. $40 if face-to-face, or will add actual shipping if someone wants it sent to them (it should all fit inside a USPS Priority flat rate box). Powders: I've got a couple containers of powder that I purchased originally to split with some coworkers/friends. However, that never *quite* happened, and now they're simply taking up room in my safe. These were purchased a little over two years ago, and have been in my (always air-conditioned) house ever since. Obviously I've loaded from each, and both powders are fine (just not something I'm going to use *that* much of...). So if you (and maybe some buddies) want to save a bunch on two common & useful powders, here's your chance! BTW, I'm in the West Valley area, and am fairly flexible with pickup times & places (Cabela's in the evenings usually works well, for instance). For obvious reasons of expense, I don't really want to ship this if someone's too far away. Thanks, and happy hunting! H4350, 8lb container, with 6+ pounds remaining: $70 R15, 5lb container, with 3+ pounds remaining: $30 Wolf small rifle primers, box of 1K, 600 remaining: $10

FS: Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x40mm, Matte, B&C reticle
ruppart replied to ruppart's topic in Classified Ads
Bryce, My apologies, I didn't see your question. I *thought* I'd set up my account to notify me if there was a reply, but apparently I screwed that up. To answer your questions--yes, it has a 1" tube. Age: About five years old. BTW, it's been back to Leupold this year for a "check up", and came home with a perfect bill of health (I do that periodically with all my optics, including binos). -
For what it's worth, I was able to fill my tag opening day in 20c hunting around Arrastre Creek (sp?) with a two-point southeast of Sourgrass Flats (east of Peeples Valley). However, I had to hike up in the hills a long ways to find any deer, and even then I didn't find a lot of them (about a dozen total, including 3-4 bucks, all small). Most of the deer I found were somewhat high, and feeding mostly on the north-facing sides of the hills with greener forage. However, I found sign off and on pretty much everywhere the brush was open enough for deer to move through. I ended up boning the deer and packing it out about a mile in rough terrain, so I wouldn't recommend this little area to the casual hunter (loose rocks, steep, and brushy. Reminds me a lot of coues hunting ). There were A LOT of people in the lower areas (Sourgrass Flats, and north towards the Wagoner road--all mentioned on the G&F webpage concerning 20c). But I didn't see anyone else going in as far as I did, at least not the first and second days. I feel your pastor's pain regarding "Private Property" signs. Seems like that's all you ever see in most of that region. I got drawn for the unit sort of by accident, and this was my first time setting foot in 20c. Interesting unit, but I was personally unable to find many deer, let alone any nice bucks. I had somewhat limited time to scout, and ended up restricting my scouting trips to the areas (high and low) east of highway 89. If anyone has better advice for where to go in the unit, I'm all ears. Good luck to you both!

FS: Remington 700 BDL 30-06 with Shilen barrel, Rogard/NP3 finish
ruppart posted a topic in Classified Ads
This has been something of a project rifle for me over the last few years, but I've decided to go in a different direction (caliber/rifle setup). If someone's looking for an absolutely top quality hunting rifle (barrel, trigger, coatings, etc.) at a great price, this is it. Here's what it's had done to it: The factory stock has had a Pachmayr Decelerator pad installed, been free-floated, and then glass & pillar bedded. The trigger has been adjusted (by a gunsmith, not me) to approx. 3.5 lbs (very clean). Also has had a Shilen match-grade stainless 23" barrel (#3 contour) installed along with a full action "blue printing", ie everything trued up & set to spec. (Barrel & action work done at Brunos, here in Phoenix). Finally, the entire action (bolt, barreled receiver, and trigger group) has been to Robar to be coated in Rogard & NP3. The action is VERY smooth & nice. Total round count (with the new barrel) is approximately 200 rounds (not significantly past being broken in). This rifle/barrel combo shoots extremely well (3-shot groups less than 1", often less than .75", @ 100 yards with only me shooting) with 150, 165, and 180 gr Noslers, in either partition or ballistic tip flavors. It's also accounted for two elk and a mule deer. Of note on the cosmetic side––the stock has it's share of bumps & scratches, as it's hardly been a safe queen. Also, Robar was unable to get their Rogard finish to completely stick to the trigger guard/floor plate assembly (they warned me about this ahead of time, saying they've had hit-or-miss results on Remington assemblies, depending on the quality of the pot metal used). Hence, it looks like crap. As this was a utility/"project" rifle that I was eventually going to re-stock, I was not terribly bothered by this. But it needs to be pointed out explicitly. Lastly, it includes the pictured set of Leupold rings & bases. Looking to get $500 local, or plus actual shipping to your FFL. If you're local, I've also got some 180gr Partitions and 150gr Ballistic Tips I can include. Please IM or email me with any questions. No trades, please. Thanks! -
Almost new (98+% overall), had it out turkey hunting for two seasons. Has a total of about 15 shells put through it. Has a 24" barrel and red fiber optic front sight bead. Includes three chokes, choke wrench, and sling (all pictured) along with a slide-on recoil pad (not pictured). Great shotgun, great finish, etc. $325. Nice shotgun, just not quite what I want. No trades, please. I'm located in the West Valley area, but will ship to anyone that's interested but not within driving distance (shipping extra). Thanks for looking!

Revolver is in excellent condition. Very smooth double action, crisp single action trigger. Has had approx. 350 rounds through it, and almost all of those were light/medium power 200gr loads. Includes original box, original Hogue grip, laminated Hogue grip, four speed loaders (two Safariland, two HKS), Sidearmor kydex belt holster, and speed loader case. This should make someone a great trail/back woods/hunting revolver. I've really enjoyed it, but have found I'm just not a revolver guy, and don't have the time/resources/desire to become one (this has been my third try with different variations, and it just doesn't work...). $625 FTF in Phoenix area, or buyer pays actual shipping (keep in mind that would be overnight, as required by UPS/FedEx). Also, if local and looking to reload for 44 (and pick up some loaded ammo to start shooting), I have the following setup for sale: - RCBS dies - Dillon 550 44 mag/special caliber conversion - five 50-count boxes of Hornady 300gr XTPs - 50 Hornady 200gr XTPs - 25 Swift 300gr bullet heads - 200 rounds of 200gr XTPs loaded in Starline/W-W brass over 10.2gr Hogdgon Titegroup (MV ~1200 fps) - 50 rounds of 300gr Swift bullets loaded in W-W brass over H110 - Some H110 and Blue Dot powder (~ 1/2 pound of each) Asking $150 for all the reloading stuff (FTF in Phoenix area). Or, if someone is interested in everything, $750 for the whole package (FTF only). Pictures of the firearm package:

Dillon 550 set up for 9mm & 223, + components, powder, etc.
ruppart replied to ruppart's topic in Classified Ads
Sorry, put the price in the ad. I typed up the ad in Word, then did a cut & paste. Not sure how I managed to drop the price in the process. Must be getting my senior moments early in life... -
Dillon 550 set up for 9mm & 223, + components, powder, etc.
ruppart posted a topic in Classified Ads
I have a Dillon 550 that is set up to load 9mm and 223 (two caliber conversion heads). The 9mm dies are Dillon, and the 223 dies are RCBS. These calibers have been set up and used, so they're good to go once you dial in your bullet/powder combination. The 550 itself includes everything that comes in the standard setup (large primer drop tube, manual, spare parts kit, etc.). I also have the following as part of the setup: 1000-plus 9mm brass (W-W, RP, FC, etc.--cleaned, once fired) 1000-plus 223 brass (newer FC, PMC, PMP, LC, etc.--once fired, cleaned, deprimed) 800 sm rifle primers (Wolf) 1000 55gr fmj (Hornady and Winchester bulk) 7 lbs H322 (part of an 8lb keg, a little over a year old, stored in ac conditions) 3.5 lbs R15 (part of a 5lb keg, a little over a year old, stored in ac condtions) 5 lbs titegroup (part of a8lb keg, same as above...) Basically, if you buy this setup, you're ready to start loading 223 and 9mm as soon as you set the press up. The press itself is a little over 12 years old, but has not seen much use. I got the press as a gift before I had my first child, and had a lot of fun using it for about a year. Then, children came along, and I barely have time to shoot, let alone reload. Tried getting back into it recently, but found even though my kids are older, I still don't have the time. And realistically, that's not going to change anytime soon. So if you're looking for a great reloading setup in these calibers, this is your one-stop shopping place. Asking $750 for the whole setup (press, powder, primers, bullets––everything). Looking to sell this face-to-face in the Phoenix area, as I don't even want to contemplate shipping this much stuff. No trades, please. Thanks, and please feel free to ask any questions. -
***SOLD*** Gen4 Glock 17 with standard sights, 2 back straps, original box, manual, 2 extra mags, etc. Also includes a one-piece single stage recoil spring from glockmeister. Has approx. Shot enough to get break in and get used to. Finish is at 98%-plus; hard to tell it's used unless you look at really close. Asking $400. Looking for local sales in the phoenix area only at this time. No trades. Thanks, and good luck this fall to everyone!

Advantage MAX-1 camo. Great pack for everything from day hikes to hauling big stuff. Just the right number of pockets, with just the right number of ways to get at everything in them. Pack is in like-new condition. Took it on a few trips, but despite the extra adjustments this one has over some others I've tried, I just can't get it to fit right on my frame (I'm 6'8"). *Sigh*. I really wanted this pack to work, but it's about 4" too short (or I'm 4" too tall...). $220 shipped CONUS, or $200 if you want to pick it up locally (I live on the west side of Phoenix, in the Goodyear area). Don't have any pictures at the moment, but can get some if anyone is really interested. Here's a link to all the info on the pack from Eberlestock's webside: Link to JP9 on Eberlestock.com Thanks! edited to lower price from $240/$220 to $220/200.

Price lowered on the pack.

Has about 250 rounds through it. Well taken care of (no "atomic" loads), with a very crisp trigger and VERY tight action. Attached Leupold scope has a few dings on the body (bought second-hand, dings already on the scope--shoots just fine). Prints approx. 1.5" 5-shot groups at 50 yards with everything from 180 gr to 300 gr bullets in front of H110. This is a wonderful hunting pistol--long enough barrel to get plenty of velocity out of the 44 mag, but short/handy enough to still be a pistol instead of a rifle with no butt stock. The 2x Leupold is also just about perfect for a handgun--easy to pick up the target, great light gathering, etc. Used it to hunt elk and javelina. Packs great in the included holster. Package includes the Uncle Mikes holster, attached bullet holder, 5 a-zoom snap caps, and the original fixed sights (if you prefer those to the 2x leupold). Asking $1200 FTF in Phoenix area.

Badlands 2200 looking for a new home. Slightly used (packed my boned-out whitetail last season), but in great condition. Missing a pull tab on the right-side small pocket (replaced with braided 550 cord). Otherwise, pretty much like new. This is a great pack, but just doesn't quite fit me, as I'm 6'8". (Looks like I'm Kifaru bound...). However, if you're anywhere between 5'10" and 6'4", this pack should fit you like a glove with just a little adjustment. Includes a 45oz Camelbak water bladder (fits perfectly in the water bladder sleeve). Asking $120 FTF in the West Valley area, or $130 shipped CONUS. Thanks!

Slightly used 629 (all stainless). Approximately 150 rounds through it, 50 of which where factory ammo, 100 of which were light reloads. Great shooting gun, especially if you're looking to hunt with it. Used it to take a javalina this last spring and it did great. Includes original box and RCBS carbide die set w/shell holder, along with an extra set of Pachmyer grips. Asking $525 shipped to your FFL, or $510 FTF in West Phoenix area. SOLD. THANKS! [edited to lower price] Thanks!

FS: ***SOLD PF*** Brand new Eberlestock J105 in Max-1 camo
ruppart replied to ruppart's topic in Classified Ads
Mr. GameHauler says he wants it. Thanks for the patience and interest though, Jeff. -
Got the J105 pack new a couple monthes back, but just can't get it to fit my 6'8" frame correctly. It's in perfect shape--only loaded with gear a couple times to try it out. I even have the original tag from Sportsman's Warehouse. Would like $190 shipped CONUS for it. If you're interested in a "Just One" pack without paying the extra for the new j107, here's your chance. Also, I know I'm new as a member here on this board, but I can provide references if desired. For starters, you can check out my ebay rank under the username "shooting_nut". Also, I can be reached in person (I live in Goodyear, AZ) if someone is serious about the pack. Thanks!

OK, just as an update--GameHauler is first in line (thinking about it this evening), with akuritone second with an "i'll take it" this afternoon. Will update as I hear back from GameHauler. Thanks again, gentlemen!
