2-Pre 64 rifles and one new model 70-270 REDUCED
couesbitten replied to elkman's topic in Classified Ads
If I give you $1000 for the 300WSM, will you take me Coues hunting with you? -
The reward? That feeling you get when you do what's right.

I have never had this happen to me, but it is scary just reading about it, and gets my blood boiling. I think that if I ever witnessed someone pointing their rifle at me, they would see me giving them a big finger in return, followed by some well chosen obscenities. This is a good example of why we should all carry binoculars and use them! Everyone be safe, and remember to watch out for the other guy, cause there are lots of idiots out there. Scott/couesbitten

Are you looking for nice bucks in 32
couesbitten replied to unit 32 all my life's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I second that. Your generosity and willingness to help is refreshing. I have looked at 32 since I planned my first hunt to AZ in 1998, but ended up hunting 36C in Dec. 2000 What I find attractive about that unit is that it is largely a wilderness area, and if your willing to put in the effort, I'd imagine you can get back in an area were it would be unlikely you would have any pressure at all. Maybe not even see another person your whole hunt. Awesome! Thanks, Scott -
Just read the news, and I don't think this is good for anybody. I'm an out of state hunter, and I think that things like this allow us to continue down the slippery slope that will result in hunting becoming a rich mans pastime more so than it already is. I hate getting a rejection for every non-resident tag I apply for, but that is also part of the hunt for me. The question of whether I'm going to be successful in the draw, is almost as exciting as the question of will I harvest an animal, and if I do, how big. I hope the Az G & F can get this reversed, but I also hope it doesn't interupt this years hunts in any way. I hope they make a decision soon, it's killing me waiting to see if I drew any tags. Well Chris, I posted a similar question myself, a short time ago. I will be putting in for 36C again this year. I like to hunt in areas where I can hike in and get away from the people. My other two choices would be 32 and 24B. I just love wilderness areas, never seen a road hunter in one yet. Rarely see another hunter. Scott/Couesbitten

Coues Addict, I know just the place you're talking about. When I shot my buck in Dec. 2000, I was on the top of a ridge overlooking this huge canyon that was just covered with with smaller finger ridges and draws, and I thought that if a big buck should be anywhere, it was somewhere in that canyon. It was just unfortunate that I didn't find it until I had already been there 4 or 5 days. I would have liked to spend alot more time in there. I will definately be putting in for 36C again this year. Hope I draw, and good luck to everyone else. And thanks to all for the words of advice. Scott/Couesbitten

Coues Addict, I agree with what you're saying, I just wish I lived a little closer so that I could spend some time in that unit (or any unit in AZ for that matter), getting to know the area better. You're post brings up a few questions with me though. What kind of problems with illegals are you refering to? Also, I've been seeing a lot of posts saying that the biggest bucks are down in the flats. I know that often times, big bucks are where you find them, but this seems like conflicting info to me, and I don't know if I should be hunting high or low. Thanks, Scott/Couesbitten

jimhdawson, I actually grew up in Benton City, you've probably heard of it! Yes, it does have some resemblance to the Blue Mt. foothills, except that the last time I was in the Blue Mts., it was a sea of orange clad hunters, and I didn't have that problem when I hunted 36C. Scott/Couesbitten

Coueshunter, I've lived in WA most of my life, in the Tri-Cities area, but from '98 - '01, I lived in Tooele, UT.While living there, my friends and I drew our tags for 36C. That was still a 17 hour drive, but considerably closer than I am now. That hunt was probably one of the greatest hunts I have ever been on, and I'm addicted to these gorgeous little deer. I can't freakin' wait to draw a tag. Thanks, Scott/Couesbitten

My thanks to everyone for the words of wisdom and encouragement. I know that often times, big bucks are where you find them, but I just thought I'd throw my question out there to you folks who might be a little more knowledgable than I. Thanks to Jason for the offer to help me scout the area, as my living in Washington will not allow me to scout before I arrive to hunt, should I draw a tag. Also thanks to Amanda for the pictures of a great buck. Scott/Couesbitten

Hello All, I'm new to this site, and thought maybe some of you guys/gals might be willing to point a fellow coues addict from WA state (a long long way from coues country) in the right direction. Have hunted coues once before in Dec. 2000. Myself and 2 friends drew tags for 36C. Had a great hunt and time. All harvested deer, no trophies, but all respectable 4x4's (counting eye gaurds). Now have 3 points, and want to use them in unit with best potential for trophy quality deer. I'm in good physical condition, and enjoy hunting wilderness areas, or any place that I can hike into and get away from crowds. Have looked at units 36C, 32, and 24B. Not looking for anyones honey hole, just any helpfull info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Scott/Couesbitten
