devinv replied to devinv's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
i forgot to mention affordable i had it narrowed down to those few, stuck between the tikka, browning a bolt, remington 700, weatherby vanguard, and the ruger mark II, havent had a chance to see them for myself but from those with experience handling those models was curious as to which which ones seemed the best quality and shot the best -
like everybody else said.. lots of them at lake pleasant.

curious to see who has a tag for 35a this year
devinv posted a topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
title says its all, i missed the draw but picked up a left over tag for the early nov. hunt, also curious to those who have hunted in the last couple years and where you have seen deer where they typically wouldnt be, like in the huachucas or mustangs because those mountain ranges are getting packed more and more every year. -
i donated a turkey tag last year, i just put it in the mail and sent it to them, then they email you a receipt if you want to deduct it from your taxes.

yeah, the problem is finding a vantage point and glassing for them but there is also a lot of mule deer down there. elkhunter, do you have any pics of deer youve taken out of 35a? -

anything on the east side of the huachucas will look like truck rally, those canyons are over run with road hunters, atv's, and illegals, ive never hunted the mustangs but ive heard they are just as bad. do you live in the valley? -
hey huntn coues, are you shooting a factory load out of your 710, curious to see because i have the same rifle and had a helluva time last year with sighting it in and finding an accurate load.

The sticker says manufactured in 2001, it was bought new in 2003.

Proper Way To Sight A Rifle?
devinv replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
yeah i got it sighted in, i ended up switching to the winchester super x 150 gr bullet. it shot the best groups and for a stock rifle, can't expect to much out of it so it does the job. it worked fine in november when i shot my buck at about 200 yards. -
not much being said about the classic zeiss. i have the 15's and love them. i haven't used the swarovskis or the leicas but the swarovskis feel fragile in my hands with the plastic. i like the classic zeiss because of the rubber armor on them. the 15s are a lot to lug around, but you can pick them up for about $1000 and they are awesome.

i have the nikon buckmaster on my rifle and couldnt be happier, the glass is clear and has good light transmission, sure it isn't as good as the german glass but it is a good glass and holds it's own, maybe get the nikon, save a little money, and get some good 15x binoculars, if you don't already have some.

Was wondering if anybody knew somebody who makes tamales? I got to keep half of my friends deer because i did the butchering, grinding, and packaging for him. If you could reply or PM with suggestions, or if its somebody in your family could you give me a ball park estimate per dozen? thank you! I slow roasted then shredded about 8lbs of deer and 8lbs of pork already, and kept the broth / lard.

helped my buddy shoot his buck last weekend and came back to hunt this weekend, 2nd to last day and the fat lady was singing, luckily i found this buck this morning and closed the deal, nothing spectacular but a 3x3 it is. i don't have any field pictures because i was hunting by myself so here are some from my phone when i got back to the truck, i was sweating bullets and exhausted, a lot of work to do by yourself!

My gf is having one of her friends g-ma do it for me this round, i'm back down in my unit for my hunt, if i tag one myself i will be interested in having more. thank you!
-
I got to warn you it is alot of work. If the girlfriend is up to giving up the secret recipe I will send you a P.M. yeah, i had no intentions of doing it myself, i realize how labor intensive it can be, was looking for somebody that i could pay to do them for me

no luck? i'm in 35a now, my buddy just shot a nice 3x3 this evening at 415 yards, haven't been seeing many bucks at all but a lot of does. i will post pics when i can get a usb cable, i'm gunna try and fill my tag in the morning then head back to the valley

Spring Results Are Up!!!
devinv replied to azcouesandelk's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
i pulled the usual javelina tag, my favorite hunt and i managed to get a turkey tag, first time ever applying, have my work cut out for me on this one. -
natural gears website does make a good point about not needing black or shadows in the gear because they occur naturally, never thought about that. kinda eliminates the realtree patterns which are kinda dark up close, much less at a distance. which predator pattern does everybody use?
