    My 2012 Crazy Bear Hunt

Lance, Awesome story. Way to stick with it. I think I like the story of your first bear better though ( sponsored by Smith & Wesson, Fruit of the Loom and Altherr Custom Game Calls - "Ruff Ruff"). Now that is a great campfire story!

    New State Record Goulds Turkey.

Eric, Congrats to your Dad on a absolutely beautiful trophy. I seriously doubt this record will ever be broken. The state record Merriams measured 2 4/16" and has been the state record for around 20 years. Gould's are not really known for long spurs, so this is an incredible bird. My hat is off to Rick. Congrats again, Mark Sipe
  5. I just wanted to give a big shout out to the Bowhunting in Arizona Record Book Committee for putting on a great banquet to honor the Arizona bowhunters and all their achievements. A HUGE THANK YOU to all the members of the committee and all the others that helped out and donated time and/or merchandise/services. Committee members; Mark Vancas, Chris Dunn, Marvin Zieser, Mark Ovitt & Bill Crum Bill we are all hoping & praying for your full recovery. Thanks to Corky Richardson for MC'ing he event & thanks to Pete Shepley & PSE for the use of their facilities. I also wanted to thank Arizona Game & Fish Commissioner, John Harris for attending & speaking at the banquet. It is good to have a fellow bowhunter on the commission. The best part of the banquet for me was seeing alot of old friends I hadn't seen in quite a while. Thanks Again BIA, Mark Sipe

Blake, For meal ideas & recipes my wife & I love the "Eating for Life" book by Bill Phillips. Lots of great tasty & healthy recipes. We subsitute wild game in the recipes whenever we can. For instance, if the recipe calls for ground turkey, we use ground venison, elk etc. I will be starting back on a regiment right after my Turkey hunt to prepare for my Elk hunt this Sept. Good luck to you, Mark
  9. As others have said, "They Call Me Hunter" is a great book. I too could not put it down till I was done. There are a couple of other GREAT hunting books authored by men from right here in southern Arizona. 1) "Lucky Shot" Favorite Hunting Stories of an Arizona Sportsman by Layne A. Brandt. 2) "The Life & Times of Ollie Barney" An Autobiography by an Arizona Native Son by Ollie Barney. I highly recommend all three of these books. I have read the first two & I'm about half way done with the third.

    Matt's First Coues

I am 13 and this is my first buck, I have been hunting for 3 years for a deer, and in the meantime, I have killed a javelina & a cow elk, but I had yet to get a deer until this year. My dad, my step sister, and I got up at 3:00 every morning and drove out to our hunting area and hiked to our special glassing point and waited for a buck to come. On the last day, we went out, and glassed for about a half of an hour, and my dad saw what looked like a doe, so he told me to practice getting it in the scope just like any other doe, then he looked for a little while and said to me " Matt, its a spike, its the last morning, if you want to and you have a clear shot, take it." I waited for a pretty good shot, then took it, a miss, my dad racked another shell in for me and I got back on him. I thought it was odd because the deer was just looking around, and wondering where the sound came from. Once I had another shot, I took it again, another miss. Just like before, he was just looking around, still had no idea where the sound was coming from. Then, on the final shot, I hit him in the neck, I didn't see, but my dad said that he did a flip down the mountain, and was down instantly. My shot was 287 yards and I shot him with my moms' 7 mag. Even though it was a very small deer, I was still really exited that I got it done. I have to say though; this was the biggest deer I have ever shot! The right spike measured 3 4/8" and the left spike was 3 1/8" long. I am kind of disappointed that my sister shot a bigger one. Next year Ill get the bigger one. Thanks for reading my story!!! Matt

    Glow Worms in az

Saw them while packing out a friends bear in the Blue Wilderness till about 2:00am back in 2000. We stopped to take a breather & he said he saw some green glowing worms, I told him he was nuts & that heat & exhaustion must be getting to him. I laid back on a rock & turned out my head lamp, it was then I realized they were every where. They looked like inch worms that would just light up & then turn off. I have no idea what they are called ,but it was pretty cool. I haven't seen any since then. Does anyone know what they are called? Thanks, Mark

    gould's turkey poacher

Let me get this sraight, It costs $7,000 - $8,750 to buy a auction tag and shoot a Gould's legally or $5,000, if you get caught, to poach one & sell the video commercially for profit. It sounds like he got a discount for breaking the law to me.

    Penguin Slugger

OK guys, you suckered me in. My best is 323.5. My son's best is 322.9, he is 11 years old. My wife is tied with my son at 322.9. We also started seeing who could hit the longest pop fly, when it's head sticks in the snow. Matthew is winning at 207.7. We also tried to see who could hit the shortest, a miss at 0 doesn't count. Matthew & I are tied at 65.5. Then my wife Linda tries doing a double swing, we haven't kept record of that yet. Good, clean family fun. Thanks Jim

    Clints Well Shoot

Hello all, This is my first time to post on this forum. I've been an avid reader of CW.com for some time, but for some reason never joined. My family & I went to the Clints Well Shoot this past weekend and I have to say it was a great shoot. The shoot was well run & organized, they had some good venders there, the food was great, the targets were in great shape and the people were very friendly. I had the honor of meeting Christian, which by the way, is why I was inspired to join this forum. Christian, it was a pleasure meeting you, maybe you can give me a few pointers on shooting! I also had the honor of meeting Stan & Travis, both great guys. I hope to be able to spend more time with all of you. My kids loved the shoot & are already talking about coming back next year. By the way, this has got to be the best hunting site I've seen. Talk to ya soon, Mark Sipe
