I've killed several coues and several mule deer in 30A and have hunted it for years. It can be a great unit, but it's not an easy hunt. We usually pack in and make a spike camp to get away from other hunters.

Fantastic buck!! That one will be hard to top, way to get it done.

Just about a year ago, I left my home in Vail Arizona and moved to Ammon Idaho. There aren't any coues here, so I've had to change gears and chase mule deer. Just got back from my first hunt and thought I'd share some pictures. I ended up shooting this buck at about 10,000 feet and didn't see another hunter. I packed in and made a small spike camp at about 9,500 feet. He ended up breaking a good chunk of one tine off as he tumbled down the steep slope. I spent quite a bit of time looking for it, but no luck. It's kind of nice to be able to buy a tag over the counter and go where you want.

I'm not old yet, but I'm starting to smell that way Just finished slicing some meat for jerky, and my kids keep asking when it will be done. Have you done much hunting this year?

I hunted the Birch Creek area about an hour and a half North West of Idaho Falls. It was nice looking country, but I was surprised at how few deer I saw.

Looks like I've swapped spots with you. I move to Ammon last year and I'm still trying to get it all figured out here. I did get two backpack fishing trips in so far though. Upper pallisades first, not much luck and then another trip to Fishpole lake. The second trip was fantastic, we caught tons of cutthroats. Most weren't very big but it was a blast. I saw a truck in town the other day with a Sun Devils fork on the back window. Maybe that was your cousin???

Wow!! those are some great looking deer. I also love the country they're in

Congrats on a great buck. That's a cool looking snake too.

I used a chart and counted clicks for years, but if you've got your load worked out, the turret is the only way to go. I made up my mind after a December hunt a few years ago. I had a great buck that was feeding toward me and the yardage kept changing. As he moved closer, my friend was calling out ranges and I was trying to keep up with the math and make the adjustments. That combined with trying to maintain a comfortable shooting position was not easy. I ended up shooting the buck at 601 yards, but determined then and there that I would get a turret and quit counting clicks and I've never been sorry.

You can use the Outdoorsmans adaptor with the 12x50's if I remember right. You would have to purchase the Leica Trinovid stud and the adaptor, but it would work great.

10 yr old swaro vs new vortex kaibab
Apatkelley replied to KaibabHunter's topic in Optics and tripods
I've always been a huge fan of Leica, Swarovski and Zeiss optics. I have to admit though that the price and warranty are excellent. One slight reservation I've got with them is they are still a rather new company and who knows what the future holds for them. I would guess that if they continue to build and back quality products buisness will grow, but if for some reason they fold, you're left with a lifetime warranty that's not much good. The others are very well established and you will at least have someone around to service your glass if needed. -
Deer Draw: What was everyone's first and second choice?
Apatkelley replied to reganranch's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Bonus point only for me this year, but if I'd put in it would have been 30B December 1st and 34A Oct 2nd. -
Looks like that lion is stalking something.....very cool

This is a great pair of binoculars, someone should grab these up!! I would love to have them, but I've got a 7X42 and a 10X42 now. Plus the fact that my wife would kill me if I brought another pair home. I've had the chance to look through this pair, and as John says they are in excellent shape.

Lots of cool pics. It's always fun to see what you get after your camera has been out for awhile.
