If you were lucky enough to be drawn, or not and just want to have a fun day of information and socialization, you will want to attend the Arizona Elk Society's Elk Hunting Clinic. It will be held on Aug 22nd from 9am to 4pm and will include a lunch of Burgers and Fries, Drink and dessert. Steve Chappell is suppose to be there. Lots of vendors as well. The cost is only $20.00 for an adult and $10.00 for a youth. You can go to the website www.arizonaelksociety.org and purchase your tickets there. The purchase will be sent to my wife and she will mail out your tickets. Hope to see some of ya'll there.

I am on call this weekend so I can't go out, but we are going to the banquet Saturday night. If unit 23 is still open next weekend me and the wife are going up there. If not we might try 22 or 24b. Good luck to all going out this weekend.

Try Jake at The Dons. Off of the 101 7803 E McDowell, the phone # is 480-946-5313. He has done great work for me.

This question has probably been asked years ago on this site, but here goes. Hopefully some of you guys who are into custom rifle building have a good answer to my question? I would like to buy a long range rifle, I do not know enough about all that goes into putting one together ie: what is a good barrel, what is a good trigger, what is a good action. I know there are certain companies who say that they have the perfect rifle for long range shooting. I prefer not to use the names of some of these companies I have researched. They all seem to say they have the perfect gun. Again, I would like to hear from you guys on hear who have built long range shooting guns that shoot out to the 600-800 yard range, what company would you go to to purchase a complete gun and scope combo? I realize these guns can be expensive and you get what you pay for.

Thanks for all the replies. To answer some of the questions asked, I like shooting a lot of different ranges and angles ie. shooting down/up steep canyons. I like the 7mm caliber alot, I have never shot a 308. I hear and read alot of how good the 308 is. I have had Jake at Dons do work on the gun that I currently shoot. I have a browning A-bolt that shoots really well out to 400 yards, but still I am wanting to extend my range to at least 800 yards. If I was going to build a long range shooter I would like to talk to several of you guys that have done just that. Back to my main question, what custom rifle company would you go to to buy a ready built long range shooter. Or are all of you saying that the custom rifle companies products are ok wink wink, but through all of the trial and error you guys have gone through ,building your own custom rifle is alot better of a product? as far as money i always beleive you get what you pay for.I hope i have answered the questions you have asked.

Awesome! You should enjoy that Grand Canyon trip and make sure you thank Monty (aka azsagebrush) for that donation, it's a great one! Which bronze shed did you get, the full size or the mini? Amanda Amanda, We know Monty and had spoken to him about this trip, as we decided to take it for our late honeymoon. Tried to contact him this weekend but he was out scouting for his elk hunt. We got the full size bronze shed, looks really nice. Mark and Kathi

My wife Kathi and I were there with some friends and had a great time, did not win a rifle but we bid on the antler bronze in the B silent auction and the Grand Canyon tour package in the live auction and won both of them. We can't wait to go on the trip and the bronze looks great in the house with our ohter Coues stuff.

Trying to find out where I can go to find information on this rifle I have accquired. The pictures shows an eagle and next to that is US Springfield. On top it has U.S. Model 1873, lower from that is a serial # 60541. This rifle came from my grandfathers estate out of Texas. Any information on a website or someone I could contact to get information about what kind of rifle and what caliber it is would be helpful.

Both have sold...Thanks, Mark

We went last night and had a good time. They honored Steve Clark for all his work that he has done for our wildlife and the work he has done with the Arizona Elk Society. Steve has been up at the Jr. Turkey camp in 23 and drove in for the banquet last night. Our table was successful as well, Kathi won the new PSE X Force GX bow. She is trying to decide what to do with it, trade it for something more for her, sell it or MAYBE give it to me!! Thanks ABA for a good evening. Mark
