  1. I'd say congratulations are in order young man. That was one heck of a good story. I like the part where you were on the phone to your wife and the bear takes off. I could just imagine you tumbling and falling down with excitement. Glad it turned out the way it did. That's an awesome bear that lived a long time. It was great that you got to share it with your dad. I'm sure he is one proud papa. Thanks for sharing. TJ

lions without a dog...can it be done?

Yes, it can be done. I have been fortunate enough to take 3 in my lifetime. I just happen to be in the right place at the right time. I don't spend as much the time in the field as I use to but I would say that is why I have seen 13 so far. The more time you are out there the more your chances are of seeing a lion. My first lion was shot while I was deer hunting in unit 24B many years ago. It was a lucky 200 yrd running shot after I missed the first shot. My second cat was shot at 8 yrds from my double blind, sitting on a water hole, during an archery hunt on Sept 1st in unit 22N. My third cat was also shot out of my double bull blind while sitting with my dad on his deer hunt. My brother-in-law calls me lucky and likely so but I have spent more hours than the average hunter in the field and feel this contributes to some of my luck. Here are a couple pictures of my last two. I was shaking so bad I could hardly stand after being eyball to eyeball with this lion. I shot this deer less than 24hrs before taking the cat out of the same blind. My dad then took his deer less than 24hrs after the lion was killed. This will more than likely be dad's last deer because of his health. I hope this encourages you to purchase a lion tag. Hopefully a little of my luck will rub off on ya. Good luck on using your lion tag. TJ

  14. That looks really tasty Chef and all the other recipes sound great also. One of my favorites is listed under the forum "Cooking Wild Food" but I don't know how to move it here. Click on Forum then scroll down to "Cooking Wild Food". It will be the 13th one down that says Dove Recipe by tjhunt2. I really have to give all the credit to my wife for this one. Keep them recipes coming and I'm going to try a bunch of them. Thanks for sharing Chef. TJ

  16. You bet it's going to be a lifelong memorie and I'm sure there will be more to come. The pictures are awesome and the smiles tell the whole story. Thanks for sharing and especially thanks for getting the little one out there. Sounds like your season so far has been a good one. If only more Dads were like you and took the time to get their children out hunting. It certainly brought a smile to my face reading and looking at your pictures. TJ

    MY BIG KAIBAB ARCHERY BUCK.

Lance, I'm so happy for ya. That's an awesome buck my friend. You deserve this buck for all the animals you have helped your clients over the years. Congratulations my friend. TJ

  19. I have never seen a product get so much attention here on cwt than swhacker broad heads from family and friends. I agree and think they are a good product but how ironic is it that they are getting all this free publicity without being a sponsor here. Swhacker is engineered and designed right here in Az and is affiliated with numerous tv shows, personalities, and businesses but not a sponsor here on coueswhitetail. Just saying. TJ

    Tribute to Missy

Peg and I spent 10 days in Greer a couple weeks ago and knew this would be Missy's last camping trip. She was having seizures and her hips were going out on her while we were there. Our friends Ted, aka jackshoe & his wife Annie had a Missy of their own and also knew her days were numbered as well. On arriving home Ted & Annie had their dog put to sleep and Peg and I had our Missy, a few days later, laid to rest. Everyone whoever owned a dog knows how hard it is to let them go. Peg and I had made arrangements to take her in on Saturday to Pet Smart and put her to sleep but I woke Friday morning and decided it was something I needed to do myself. I drove to the Salt River, not telling Peg, and dug Missy's resting place and returned home. Peg was now up and I told her my plans and it was the toughest thing I ever seen watching Peg say goodbye and letting her go. As I drove back to the river I wondered if I was going to have the strength to do this. Knowing the suffering our Missy had been going thru convinced me I was doing the right thing. I assured her she no longer would be in any pain and laid her to rest. I have tears as I write this and it was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. It's been a week now and Peg and I paid our respects today with a head marker I made. Those who knew Missy knew she was a strange dog and always acted like she would bite you if you reached for her head. She got that way after a trip to the vet once and we figured someone mistreated her. She was a good dog and more loyal to Peg than me. We brought her home from a Holloween Party in 2004 as a puppy. She was only 9 yrs old and we will miss her more than you will ever know. Here are a few pictures. Rest in peace! TJ

    Swhacker Broad Heads

I'm confused on why we feel "free publicity" is OK since we just found out it's a thriving national company. However if they were a small local business we feel as if you should sponsor or we won't share our experience with your product or service? Am I way off on how I interpreted this? If so please dis regard. Speedygoss, my intent was never to make someone feel they had to be a sponsor nor would I ever suggest we ignore a small business of their product or services just because they weren't a sponsor. I am so wrapped up in this site that I just can't imagine everyone with a product or service not wanting to jump on here as a sponsor. I apologize if I made it sound any other way. I personally didn't mean any disrespect towards Rick Forrest or his broadhead. My wife is always telling me I often say things others wouldn't understand what it is I'm trying to say. Heck, I understood it. lol Those who know me know I have a different vocabulary for words and should start my own dictionary called "Redneck Dictionary". Speedygoss........thanks for sharing your interpretation. Made me rethink on what I said. I need that once in a while. Good luck on all your hunts and thanks for all your contribution in the forum here on cwt. TJ
