Trail Cam pics
tjhunt2 replied to Switchback's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I'm not sure about the top one but I think the bottom one will go around 40lbs of boneless meat in the freezer. The top one looks like it has a drop tine on the left side. Neat! TJ -
Christian, good luck on your hunt. Take some pictures to share with us all. Go get'em!

That's a dandy in anyone'e book, Congrat. TJ

Mark is a friend of mine who has been waiting over 20 years for a chance at a gote. His first tag, that many years ago, got spoiled after he found a suicide victim on opening day. I promised him, I might look like death, but this opener would be different. I spotted the goat 200 yrds out and turned to inform Mark but he had already started walking in the direction of a G&F truck approaching. Neither him nor G&F knew they were about to mess this one up. I whistled to get Mark's attention at the same time he got to the truck. I motioned and he dropped it standing right next to the G&F truck. He then asked Paul Greer, the Game Warden, if he would like to see his tag? This isn't near as big as the others on here but to Mark this was a trophy he was quite proud of. 67" You would have thought it scored 150". I've been on many of Mark's first kills over the past 30 years and this one was special. The G&F took the picture and sent it to my e-mail. Amanda, you might know this friend of mine. Isn't life good? TJ

That was exactly my question but didn't ask. TJ

Chris is a friend of mine that I have helped the last few years harvest his first archery turkey, elk, and a 92" rifle coues. This past week I set him up in my blind and he took another turkey. I had to return home to process my small 3x3 but before leaving camp I placed him on a water hole that had some small bucks watering. He just wanted to harvest his first ever archery coues and had this when I returned to camp Friday night. He has some photography skills to master yet but he was a little excited to say the least. Congratulations to Chris on a fine 115" after deductions. He actually shot the smaller of the two that watered.

Ok, I'm a little confused as always. How many tags can HOAL use each year? I cut my rifle coues tag up after I shot my deer last week not knowing I could donate this tag to{HOAL}. TJ

I don't know how you removed the arrows but thanks. You must know some kind of magic. If I send you my little 3x3 could you make him a 7x8? TJ -
Lance, that had to be some great memory making there with your Dad. Congrat. to ya. Where's the pics? Jim, isn't this a great time of year. I also had the opportunity to help a friend yesterday harvest his first lope as well and then helped another friend harvest his first archery turkey today. I'm in 7th Heaven! TJ

First archery coues
tjhunt2 replied to tjhunt2's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Jim....I was wondering if anyone caught that tag. He is on his own from now on. There really are some people jealous and upset with me putting him on that spot but they are the same ones who haven't even pulled their bows out of the case yet and who I helped get started. How easy they forget. Your right Jim about him having some normal hunts to appreciate this one but this is what gives me pleasure helping someone being successful. I hope this experience helps him to bring someone else into our sport and carry on with our great hunting heritage. TJ -
Awsome, I would have liked to have seen the look on his face when that jack hit the dirt. Cong. TJ

Man, more common sense. Now you know why I ground sluice quail and shoot all my doves when they are bunched up in a mesquite tree. Them dang things are just too hard to hit when they're flying, and shotgun ammo is way to expensive now! Same with those goofy ducks. What's so neat about shooting them on the water is you get a really, really good idea of where the shot is going so you can compensate on the next bunch. I mean who cares how I kill 'em? As long as I don't kill more than my limit, it's my personal choice. Bring 'em on. I sure hope those bad dudes at G&F never make this stuff illegal. -TONY They can fly???????????? I like to see how many I get with one shot. Now that's a challenge.
-
Why? If someone pays for their own hunting license/permit and wants to fill their tag with a spike, what concern is that for anyone else? They are entitled to kill one LEGAL deer, and what they kill is their own business. Geez, all the "what did it score" folks should be tickled; that means the spike-killing dude left all the big ones alone. -TONY I agree with you Tony on this. I love to eat deer and would just as much put meat in the freezer than hold out for the big one that never came. I have shot my share over the years and would like to kill a wall hanger but my wife and I like to eat deer. I will let the spikes live for another season.

Great story telling. I loved it. Cong. to you Lance and Russ. TJ
