That's what I get for opening my mouth that the 270 was his favorite. What I should of said was, in his later years of life he favored the 270. Mr. O'Connor actually liked and wrote about all types of guns but was probably most well known for his love of the small bore ( .257 Roberts, .270 Winchester, 7x57, and the 30-06) but what most people didn't know is that he was, in fact, almost single-handedly responsible for the popularity of the .416 Rigby and the .416 caliber cartridges in North America. He was born in Nogales, Az. I actually got this info off the internet but have always enjoyed reading his articles as a kid growing up. WELL OK, MAYBE I NEVER DID QUITE GROW UP! :lol " Ok, I did say "know it all want to be's" in a previous post...........just kidding guys. COOL OFF before you shoot arrows at me. TJ

Unless these guys on here know something the late Jack O'Connor didn't I would say Jack would turn over in his grave if you didn't go with the 270 but maybe a few on here think Jack didn't know what he was talking about. That saids it all for the want to be know it alls. TJ

Fun with Trail Cam Pics and Video!
tjhunt2 replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Amanda, after putting in a 13 hour day it was refreshing coming home to watch your video while sipping on a cold margarita. Thanks! TJ -
Magnum, you was wise to hire them body guards. Congratulation on a fine set of antlers. Lets here the story. TJ

Welcome to the best darn coues show on the internet Bryan. There are a few good guys that know their s$!% on here and the rest are all bull s$!% artist but they're good for a laugh once in a while. Looking forward to seeing some of your pictures. Was that bass really Jim's fish and he let you take a pic with it? TJ -
I'm not sure but I heard you can fill your ink container with colored water and it will print just fine. Be sure and make it realllllllll thick. TJ

I have to agree with Jim's reply here. There are many tools and technics that can be used in curtain situations and not all will work all the time. I personlly haven't tried Montana decoys but seen it demonstrated on a muzzleloader hunt in Nevada. It worked really well but then again they were hunting in a wilderness hunt where no other hunter was hunting. Safety is a big concern using any type of decoy. I once made a cow decoy out of 1/4" plywood and boy did I look stupid carrying this thing around. Know it didn't work on the antelope but the cows thought I was cute. TJ

TJ, Anyone who spends as much time or MORE time (there are plent who spend more time) behind binos, will agree with my statement.... I simply would rather not waste my time.... That is not Spoiled..... Maybe set in my ways but not spoiled.... I busted my but to get these glasses for a reason.... they ARE that good. Do what you gotta do SkyHawk..... but set your standards high as you can and NEVER, ever be satisfied..... CnS Gino.....so you caught the spoiled part before I edited it. I didn't know how you spoiled guys would take it so I deleted it and made it sound a little more gentle on ya. Just kidding for sure here Gino I have to admit I haven't looked thru any other high quality glass other than swars. I know you spend more time behind binos than myself so I won't argue with you on this one. I'll have to see for myself and then maybe I'll have two pairs of swars. for sale. TJ

Listen to DesertBull, go buy what you an afford now and go hunting. I'm willing to bet that most of these guys had many years of good times with a cheaper pair, except for maybe a few who had rich folks, but it is easy for them now to say save your money and buy the best. Yes, they are trying to help out from experience but when you ain't got that kind of money the cheaper binos will do just fine and it will let you appreciate the better ones when time comes. Good luck hunting and enjoy whatever you buy. One word of advise would be to treat your cheaper binos with great care like not laying them on the dash while drving or on the floor. Protect them from any hard knocks and they will do just fine for now. TJ Oh Yeah!!! I had a great time when I owned the Cheap Ones.... ... I just never found as many critters! Better optics will make you a better hunter, if you let them... I know that it helped me. Examples...... A custom carpenter is made better by his specialty tools..... just as a mechanic can be made better by his. I won't use cheap glass if it is free..... and you never get to sell your cheap glass for a fair price, no one wants it. I have never "lost" money when selling some of my Swaro equipment to upgrade to "the latest or greatest". And the good stuff has never let me down. Buy what you can afford if you need to buy now..... otherwise, save and play with the good stuff sooner! IMO. CnS Skyhawkbowhunter.....now that you're leaning towards a pair of 15's be sure to look at the classified ad by gonhntn. He has a brand new pair of swar. 15x56's for $1850. I bought a pair just like these last year from Ray and these come with a camera adapter, tripod adapter, warranty, and a nice case. I don't know of anyone else who can beat that deal. Gino..... I won't use cheap glass if it is free? Yeah right! Other than that great advise. TJ

VERY important info on NM 2008 Turkey season..PLEASE read!!!
tjhunt2 replied to huntswnm's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
That just blows me away that the NMgf wouldn't want to advertise the youth hunt since it is their future generation that is so important to their organization? I don't live in NM but I would like to thank you Jeff for wanting to get the news out even if it is a year later. It's never to late to help out the kids. TJ -
What's a kapowie bird? TJ

Jim, don't worry about what others say on here caus I fall in that sissy category as well. I know where you comin from. I was attacked by the very same creature in my honey hole and I was fortunate to get away but I never recovered my float tube or fins . It was an awful scene and I am not able to go back in the water since. Here is the bruises this guy can put on you. Jim, what ever you do, stay out of the water. TJ

I have a tag for Unit 1 and spent mornings and afternoons on Friday and Saturday in five or six of my favorite places around my cabin. The birds were there because I heard them coming off their roosts both mornings, but they would not respond to my calls. Saturday evening we had two hens feeding within 75 yars of the blind until they went to their roost and, even with "live decoys" chirping, we never heard a gobble. The only bearded birds we saw were running across roads, and they were alone without hens. In my opinion, the gobblers weren't "hot" yet where I hunted in Unit 1. Will try again Thursday. My season runs April 25-May 1 and picks up again May 9-22, so I'm in no hurry to tag out. Incidentally, I found a beautiful set of brown 6x6 elk sheds Friday morning ... both sides dropped at the same time between two aspen trees. It was a good bull, with long tines and lots of mass, but the main beams were only about 40-44 inches. Bill Quimby Bill, I don't claim to be any expert on turkeys but IMO them gobblers will get hotter as less hens are available and laying on their nest. The gobblers will have fewer birds to find and will be talking and competing more. I talked to a WM in my area and he said this next two weeks will be better than this past week. That's the situation in 22 right now and hopefully your area will be the same. Better hunting coming for ya Bill. Good luck when your season comes back in. Let us know how you do. TJ

Daniel, congratulations on your gobbler. To shoot that with a bow, and a recurve to boot, is just awesom. You must have done your home work really well to have had everthing go the way you planned. That just never happens to me when it comes to them turkeys. Great looking turkey Daniel! TJ

You guys are great entertainmemt and would it be to much to ask what it scored after the drying period? TJ

My hunt starts May 2nd and 3 of my friends shot 20 pounders this weekend. Now only 15 more tags to fill in our two camps next weekend. The wife is gunning it and I'll be throwing arrows. The shoulder is doing fine so I retired the crossbow. Good luck to all you turkey hunters. TJ

Got my 22n archery bull tag yesterday. TJ

Yes, I have gained my blood count back where it belongs. I will be more than happy to answer any questions anyone has about dealing with gonhntn. Delivery was smooth and his character was great. These actually come with a camera adapter which I wasn't expecting. These won't last! TJ

Spring Snow Melt and Global Warming
tjhunt2 replied to SilentButDeadly's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
, CnS Gino.... my hat's off to your son for what he does. That is some hot and hard work, that's for sure. Where would we be without the likes of the Hot Shot teams and all the other people who are involved with protecting our land from the lightning strikes and the idiots who can't put out a camp fire but the one that gets me the most is the ones throwing their smokes out the window. Was this fire he's on caused by border crossers? Global Warming.....IMO just another name for what's been going on since the start of time. Someone just gave it a stupid name. TJ
