    Snow in Flag

I as wondering how your hunt was going. That same thing happened to me over on the Navajo Resev. a few years back and I was lucky enough to see a bird just befor dark. I went to my truck and got a flashlight and followed his tracks to his roost and was there one hour before daylight standing in a foot of snow and caught him coming back out of the same thicket he went in on. He gobbled over 60 times before flying down and it was nerve racking to say the least. Hope you have more days to pursue a bird. Sometimes this weather gets these gobblers talking. Good luck! TJ I will be heading out Friday about midnight to hopefully locate a bird before daylight. I will be hunting for a couple more days and hopefully get it done. This hunt to me so far has been like a fall hunt. Sure has not been like the last few years IMO. Wish they would gobble!!! But where ever I have been they have been almost completely silent. Don't matter if its three in the morning or 10 at night NO GOBBLES! It was the same with me. The turkey I shot was the only one I saw and heard. I walked up on it and we both were surprised. Shot him at 50yds flying across a canyon trying to get away. Here's a picture of the last turkey in unit 22.

    Unit 33 Hunt pressure

Jim, thanks for taking the time to explain how the system works. Back in the 80's I use to get surveys from azgf that were very helpful to where I would hunt. They weren't made public but they would give them to you just for the asking. Jim, your facts and opinion can do nothing but help some of the members here in their negative attitudes towards azgf. I said some, not all! The reason is, I know certain members who get on here and go on and on about how azgf thinks it's all about the money. These same members have never been to a meeting but sit on the computer with their negative attitudes and have all the answers instead of working towards a solution. Now there is a difference between those few and those with an opinion. I can see how one thinks that it's all about the money, because I've said the same at times, but overall I believe that there are more individuals in the organazation who really do care about the hunters and the furture generation of our hunting heritage. First of all, again, I would like to thank you Jim for coming on our site to explain a little how the system presently works and last, but not least, I feel all our members together have so much knowledge that if we all worked together we could have the best hunting situation in the USA. We actually have it pretty good with some of the most public hunting area available to us than most states. Most don't like changes but give it time. If it doesn't work then we can change it. I think I just heard someone say YEAH RIGHT! Just my opinion. TJ

I would like to hear that muzzle loader hunt story some time about your friend Dan. You did him quite well in your tribute to him Lark. He would have been proud. Yes, TLH said it right when he said there are a bunch of lucky hunters in HEAVEN today. I hope my Grandpa met him at the gate and welcomed him in to the happy hunting grounds. My Grandpa was the best hunter I have ever known. Thanks for sharing with us Lark. My wife and I would like to share our condolences with all the families and friends. TJ
  11. I don't know anyone who wouldn't want one. I was just wondering if maybe it was patterned off of firstcouewas80's buck of a life time. just kidding Casey... TJ

    BUSTED BY THE BACKDOOR GOBBLER.

I've been busted by them back door gobblers myself but here is a picture of one unlucky gobbler. I had been archery hunting the first week and decided to carry the gun this day as I checked for some turkey roost. As I scaled along this steep terrain looking for a roost tree I came face to face with this turkey that scared the day lights out of both of us. He took about three steps before flying across a little canyon and I dropped him in mid air out about 50yds. He landed in the very bottom and I thought as I carried him out of there, "what the heck would I do with an elk down here". My training starts tomorrow to get this fat a$$ in some sort of shape before elk season. I was lucky enough last year to have the help of Gamehauler, on a couple of occasions, while my shoulder healed. We took 9 turkeys so far out of our two camps and my wife goes gobbleless for another year. My partner and I set up this morning with a couple decoys and called in a young gobbler that strutted and fanned all around us for over a half hour. We were able to call him in three times but still weren't able to grow a beard on him but he sure gave us a show. Shortly after that we had a last year cow come in and licked our decoy gobbler and then decided to pull him out of the ground by his head. There stood that elk with the turkey sticking out of his mouth and my video camera laying back at camp. As we both tried to get our digital cameras out of our packs, while laughing under our breath, we got busted and he dropped our decoy and walked off.

    E-MAIL FROM IRAQ

Thanks for sharing. We sometimes forget that there is bigger problems than our hunting rights being changed. We are all blessed and should thank our lucky lives we have the likes of your brother and all the other armed men and women in our armed forces protecting what some just take for granite. Thanks for sharing and God Bless your brother, his safe return, and this great country of ours. TJ

    Say It Ain't So Al

I've been telling folks for years thst there isn't no such thing as global warming. That's as ridiculous as them saying a deer can't see color. Whoever had a deer tell them that? Same as that uv stuff that makes your cloths keep from standing out like a light bulb. People will believe anything and buy whatever someone saids it's so according to their findings. I have a turkey foot that scatches the leaves and is guaranteed to get you a turkey. $39.99 for those who might be interested. Available since opening day of turkey season. Shipping is free! TJ

  24. I might have missed it but I couldn't find a detailed map of the precise camp spot for the outing. Has it been posted? If so, where can I find it and if not, could someone post a map of where it will be? I know it's at Marshall lake but exactly where? I will be up there 2 weeks before, camping at Morman ,and would like to look it over before deciding on what camping gear I will bring. Thanks TJ
