I've been busted by them back door gobblers myself but here is a picture of one unlucky gobbler. I had been archery hunting the first week and decided to carry the gun this day as I checked for some turkey roost. As I scaled along this steep terrain looking for a roost tree I came face to face with this turkey that scared the day lights out of both of us. He took about three steps before flying across a little canyon and I dropped him in mid air out about 50yds. He landed in the very bottom and I thought as I carried him out of there, "what the heck would I do with an elk down here". My training starts tomorrow to get this fat a$$ in some sort of shape before elk season. I was lucky enough last year to have the help of Gamehauler, on a couple of occasions, while my shoulder healed. We took 9 turkeys so far out of our two camps and my wife goes gobbleless for another year. My partner and I set up this morning with a couple decoys and called in a young gobbler that strutted and fanned all around us for over a half hour. We were able to call him in three times but still weren't able to grow a beard on him but he sure gave us a show. Shortly after that we had a last year cow come in and licked our decoy gobbler and then decided to pull him out of the ground by his head. There stood that elk with the turkey sticking out of his mouth and my video camera laying back at camp. As we both tried to get our digital cameras out of our packs, while laughing under our breath, we got busted and he dropped our decoy and walked off.

Thanks for sharing. We sometimes forget that there is bigger problems than our hunting rights being changed. We are all blessed and should thank our lucky lives we have the likes of your brother and all the other armed men and women in our armed forces protecting what some just take for granite. Thanks for sharing and God Bless your brother, his safe return, and this great country of ours. TJ

Sorry, sold! TJ

I've been telling folks for years thst there isn't no such thing as global warming. That's as ridiculous as them saying a deer can't see color. Whoever had a deer tell them that? Same as that uv stuff that makes your cloths keep from standing out like a light bulb. People will believe anything and buy whatever someone saids it's so according to their findings. I have a turkey foot that scatches the leaves and is guaranteed to get you a turkey. $39.99 for those who might be interested. Available since opening day of turkey season. Shipping is free! TJ

2nd annual Flagstaff area CWT get together!
tjhunt2 replied to Lance's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
I might have missed it but I couldn't find a detailed map of the precise camp spot for the outing. Has it been posted? If so, where can I find it and if not, could someone post a map of where it will be? I know it's at Marshall lake but exactly where? I will be up there 2 weeks before, camping at Morman ,and would like to look it over before deciding on what camping gear I will bring. Thanks TJ -
That's what I get for opening my mouth that the 270 was his favorite. What I should of said was, in his later years of life he favored the 270. Mr. O'Connor actually liked and wrote about all types of guns but was probably most well known for his love of the small bore ( .257 Roberts, .270 Winchester, 7x57, and the 30-06) but what most people didn't know is that he was, in fact, almost single-handedly responsible for the popularity of the .416 Rigby and the .416 caliber cartridges in North America. He was born in Nogales, Az. I actually got this info off the internet but have always enjoyed reading his articles as a kid growing up. WELL OK, MAYBE I NEVER DID QUITE GROW UP! :lol " Ok, I did say "know it all want to be's" in a previous post...........just kidding guys. COOL OFF before you shoot arrows at me. TJ
-
Unless these guys on here know something the late Jack O'Connor didn't I would say Jack would turn over in his grave if you didn't go with the 270 but maybe a few on here think Jack didn't know what he was talking about. That saids it all for the want to be know it alls. TJ

Welcome to the best darn coues show on the internet Bryan. There are a few good guys that know their s$!% on here and the rest are all bull s$!% artist but they're good for a laugh once in a while. Looking forward to seeing some of your pictures. Was that bass really Jim's fish and he let you take a pic with it? TJ -
I'm not sure but I heard you can fill your ink container with colored water and it will print just fine. Be sure and make it realllllllll thick. TJ
-
I have to agree with Jim's reply here. There are many tools and technics that can be used in curtain situations and not all will work all the time. I personlly haven't tried Montana decoys but seen it demonstrated on a muzzleloader hunt in Nevada. It worked really well but then again they were hunting in a wilderness hunt where no other hunter was hunting. Safety is a big concern using any type of decoy. I once made a cow decoy out of 1/4" plywood and boy did I look stupid carrying this thing around. Know it didn't work on the antelope but the cows thought I was cute. TJ

TJ, Anyone who spends as much time or MORE time (there are plent who spend more time) behind binos, will agree with my statement.... I simply would rather not waste my time.... That is not Spoiled..... Maybe set in my ways but not spoiled.... I busted my but to get these glasses for a reason.... they ARE that good. Do what you gotta do SkyHawk..... but set your standards high as you can and NEVER, ever be satisfied..... CnS Gino.....so you caught the spoiled part before I edited it. I didn't know how you spoiled guys would take it so I deleted it and made it sound a little more gentle on ya. Just kidding for sure here Gino I have to admit I haven't looked thru any other high quality glass other than swars. I know you spend more time behind binos than myself so I won't argue with you on this one. I'll have to see for myself and then maybe I'll have two pairs of swars. for sale. TJ

Listen to DesertBull, go buy what you an afford now and go hunting. I'm willing to bet that most of these guys had many years of good times with a cheaper pair, except for maybe a few who had rich folks, but it is easy for them now to say save your money and buy the best. Yes, they are trying to help out from experience but when you ain't got that kind of money the cheaper binos will do just fine and it will let you appreciate the better ones when time comes. Good luck hunting and enjoy whatever you buy. One word of advise would be to treat your cheaper binos with great care like not laying them on the dash while drving or on the floor. Protect them from any hard knocks and they will do just fine for now. TJ Oh Yeah!!! I had a great time when I owned the Cheap Ones.... ... I just never found as many critters! Better optics will make you a better hunter, if you let them... I know that it helped me. Examples...... A custom carpenter is made better by his specialty tools..... just as a mechanic can be made better by his. I won't use cheap glass if it is free..... and you never get to sell your cheap glass for a fair price, no one wants it. I have never "lost" money when selling some of my Swaro equipment to upgrade to "the latest or greatest". And the good stuff has never let me down. Buy what you can afford if you need to buy now..... otherwise, save and play with the good stuff sooner! IMO. CnS Skyhawkbowhunter.....now that you're leaning towards a pair of 15's be sure to look at the classified ad by gonhntn. He has a brand new pair of swar. 15x56's for $1850. I bought a pair just like these last year from Ray and these come with a camera adapter, tripod adapter, warranty, and a nice case. I don't know of anyone else who can beat that deal. Gino..... I won't use cheap glass if it is free? Yeah right! Other than that great advise. TJ

VERY important info on NM 2008 Turkey season..PLEASE read!!!
tjhunt2 replied to huntswnm's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
That just blows me away that the NMgf wouldn't want to advertise the youth hunt since it is their future generation that is so important to their organization? I don't live in NM but I would like to thank you Jeff for wanting to get the news out even if it is a year later. It's never to late to help out the kids. TJ -
