Coueschaser3....has your friend ever hunted 22s before? Jim is right about it being a tough hunt. Plenty of scouting is the key to success in this unit. Good luck to your friend on his hunt! TJ

Where Are You Going to be Opening Morning?
tjhunt2 replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
REAL funny Casey! Even I got that one. Don't let anyone see you crying after all the yelling & screaming. All kidding a side, good luck and I hope you make it. Best of luck! I'll be sleeping in on opening day. No since in getting it over with to soon. Breakfast, coffee around the camp fire in the morning, a mid afternoon nap, and then enjoy the rest of the day looking thru the binos. Don't hurry a good thing. TJ -

Coues & Sheep said I was gobbling up to much of Amanda's web site so I deleted all the gobbler pics but Ted's bird. Sorry Amanda! I'll figure this down sizing one of these days. TJ

Jackshoe (Ted Bounds) and I decided to give it one last try and headed up to our area Tuesday with no luck that afternoon. We couldn't get a peep out of any of them turkeys. We decided on an area where we had seen some tracks and were up at 3:15am and were in our spot by 4:30am. after carrying in the doublebull blind and 2 chairs. We set up on a ridge and waited for daylight. I started with a few hen yelps but had no response. We decided if a turkey was in our area, it had heard us, so we chose to be quite and not get aggressive. At 5:55 this turkey walks by the blind and I turn to Ted and find him sleeping. I nudged his leg and he opens his eyes and realizes this isn't a dream. He slowly raises his gun and lets the safety off. The #6's did the trick at just 15yrds. It was a tough year for turkeys but we managed to get 10 out of 14 from our camps. Here's a few pics. [

Snapshot, I feel your pain believe me. I suffered for many years with a herniated disc in my lower neck and had the same symptoms as TLH and your wife discribed. I finally, about 8 years ago, had Barrows Nerological Institute fuse my 6 & 7th vertabrae together, installed a titanium plate/screws, and told me to never play sports or run again. Getting to old for sports but I do run occasionally while hunting and usually hurt later that night. I waited till after pig season and was out of work for 4 months, shooting the bow in 6months, and didn't miss archery elk in Nov. I couldn't carry any load for about a year. My Father has 4 fused in his back and was out for a year of hunting but he was about 70 when he had it done. He's 79 now and the days and hours are limited on a hunt. TLH is right about the physical condition of your body and recovery time. I would say the biggerst thing to do is reserch your surgeons records. You are the one who has to live with the results. Good luck to you, TLH, and your wife. TJ

A big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you all. TJ

Congratulations on your bird. Thanks for sharing. TJ

Gino....yes, we did alright. The first pic of Ted's turkey does look like a hen but we thought it might be a jake. I'm not much of a turkey expert. All the other birds were gobblers for sure. Two were just under 20lbs and the rest 20plus. My Dad's bird had the longerst beard I've seen. The pictures aren't that good but it exceede 13" if you count a couple of hairs. Troy...I did see your picture and post. I replied with a big congratulations on your bird. Nice!

31,000 scientist article
tjhunt2 replied to .270's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I'm not to sure about all the screaming back and forth about Global Warming effecting our weather pattern but I do know for sure it has affected our gravity pull on earth. Some of you youngsters haven't been around long enough to realize what global warming has done to our gravity as in lbs of pull. From the beginning of time when the first apple fell from the tree man realized there was this thing called gravity. If that same apple were to fall from a tree today it would definately put a larger indentation in the ground. Do I have scientific proof of this? You bet I do! When I die I have left my body, through the donor list, for scientist to study this global warming affect on gravity. 30 yrs ago I weighed 155lb @ 5'5" and now 220lb. I once could run up any mountain here in Az but the pull of gravity has affected that task to a walk at its best, with many breaks in between. A 75lb. backpack 30 yrs ago would weigh 150lb. today. Just how bad has it gotten? I know a fishing buddy who shows an old picture of a 5lb. bass he caught and that same bass has doubled in weight over 20 years. I really believe it has something to do with the removing of the trees from the rain forest. Don't be fooled by this weather, its the gravity pull that will put you 6 ft under someday. TJ -
Javi pit roast? That's right up my alley. I haven't had one in quite a long time due to me making sausage out of them now. Javi is my favorite thing to hunt and just watch for hours. Something about them just fascinates me! I'm always looking for new heards to view. When's the cook out? TJ

Thanks all, some of the birds came easy and others were hard to get. Are you having your bird mounted Ryan? They are expensive but make for a great mount. TJ You guys killed probably half the birds that were killed up there ....Unfortunately I'm not going to get him mounted. I will probably just buy one of those plaques to put the fan and beard on. Don't leave your fan feathers laying around like I did. I accidently threw my beard out with the garbage and my dog ate the tail feathers I laid on the table and forgot about. Oh well, there's always next year. TJ

Jim, looks like Hunter is going to keep the family heritage going for sure. Congratulations to Hunter on his first bass and all of you guys, for making it happen for him, as well. I'ld take that fish on the end of my pole any day. Thanks for sharing the pics. How many pics did you take on the cell phone before getting it all in? Nice! TJ

WOW, what a story and way to stick it out. Congratulations on a trophy of a different kind. You definately deserved that bird! TJ
