To shoot?... or not to shoot?

The first buck would definitely be a yes with the bow and the second buck for sure with either bow or gun. Thanks for sharing the great pics of both. It's always nice to see some lopes on here since I don't get up that way often to see them. TJ

    **CONCEPT ARCHERY**

Hoghntr, Do you know who sells them here in the valley? I would like to shoot one of these. These could keep the older hunters in the woods alot longer. I looked at your profile and saw that you like to hunt the javelinas as much as I do. They are my #1 choice as well. I'm hoping to draw a fall pig hunt since I failed to connect with one in Jan. Also saw your birthday was May 23. HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY and good hunting this year to you and your family. TJ

    CROSSBOW KNOWLEDGE ANYONE ??

I just saw this post and got here late for giving any advise before you bought your parker cyclone. They have come a long way in developing these bows and like any bow it takes some practice to shoot with confidence. A little late but here is what I know, which isn't a whole lot, but I borrowed a Horton from a friend and had to shoot several differrent broad heads before finding one that would shoot straight. The rage was the worst grouping broad head I shot and the wack'em was the best for my setup. I'm sure every bow shoots differrent so practice and you will due just fine. I have a friend who owns a ten-point and it has a built in draw which is sweet. I was fortunate enough to shot a javelina, turkey, deer, and elk with it two years ago. Good luck with your new bow and be sure and post some pictures of your success. TJ

    Been brought to my attention...

Casey, congratulations and thanks for being part of our protection along the border. It was great that Scottyboy and Chef could be there and I'm proud to say one of our coueswhitetail members is now protecting us of harms way. Way to go Casey. I know you will do us proud! TJ
  18. Dang Beau, wish I'ld have known you were going to be in the area over the weekend. You could have shared a cold brew around the fire with us. I had been camped there for a couple weeks except for two days I had to work. Find any horns? TJ
  19. For one reason or another my wife's turkey hunts have always had Murphy along, as in Murphy's Law. She has probably sat more hours in a ground blind than any person has a right to. 32 years of hunting and she has finally closed the door on her quest of an Az turkey. Between me trying to video her hunts and her making noise at the wrong time or getting to the blind late only to have the turkeys already there has been very frustrating, not only for her but for me as well. I made a commitment that this was going to be the year for her and my Dad before I would try and harvest my bird. It started waking up at 3:30am and I was sitting in what I thought to be the best of several spots I had scouted and had my Dad in the second best place. Hearing plenty of gobbling had us excited but to our unknown we had two other hunters walking the woods near where we were hunting and saw their tracks on the way back to camp for lunch. Dad hadn't seen anything either and after a nap we were all back out for the evening hunt. Peg and I had 5 whitetail, one being a little spike, walk by our stand but not what we were after. After ariving in camp we learn that Dad had 4 jakes walk by him. He said he didn't know if this would be his last chance at a turkey do to his ailing body parts and so he said, "At 80 what do you think I did. BOOM!" We all started laughing and hugs of congratulations were in order. Another day of frustration with weekenders shooting guns and a father son team riding their trail bikes thru the woods. Yes, I stopped them and they left. My wife said it just wasn't meant for her to ever shoot a turkey. I had to put another plan together and it had to be fast since tomorrow was her last day to hunt. I went to my #3 spot and found plenty of sign and decided to have her there by 4:15am. I figured she would want to sleep in but she said Amanda"s turkey story inspired her to keep trying so we started out at 4 and soon was listening to gobblers in the distance. I started calling after I figured the turkeys were on the ground and had a response immediately. A jake ran in and was so fasinated with my decoy and he called and strutted untill a flock of 12 birds came in at 6:10 with several jakes, hens and one big tom. I was shaking so bad and new something was about to happen and Murphy's Law was hiding behind every tree. I was going to have her shoot the first bird with a beard but she insisted on the last one which was trutting in full force all the way in. As the birds past within 20 yds I was loosing it. So many opportunities walking by and then BOOM. She shot and it wasn't all that good but her next shot put it down for good. I yelled stop shooting and she said we finally did it affter 32 years. Do you think there were a tear or two? I don't know when I was ever so excited for her. My wife's first. Peg & I Dad & Peg Our setup! Loaded for the ride back to camp

    Wild dogs

I had a similar experience this last elk season with two dogs on my trail cams several times. One morning as I was getting off the quad before daylight I had the dogs barking at me and then had them follow my scent into my blind. One had a collar and the other was big enough I mistaken him for a small bear at first glance. I was no where near any houses and think these dogs might have been lost or left for some reason. I thought about shooting them but then couldn't bring myself to do it when I had the chance. One looked like it was nursing puppies and the other was just mean looking. After reading this post I will deal with the dogs if they are still in the area or on my trail camera. They ruined a couple of evenings while I was archery deer hunting this last year and I let them live and think now it was a mistake. I hope they have gone on but wouldn't be surprised to see them again. How can they survive the coyotes and lions? TJ
  24. Well, the ice melted in the ice chest and the bird got all wet. I thought if anyone would comment on his bird it would be you Gino I was right. As for the ground blind, they all look a like. My wife liked the two turkey comment. TJ
