    2009 archery success

Thanks Kathi for letting everyone know I tie up the big ones. They seem to all get loose before I get a chance to shoot them thou. Serious thou, thanks for the compliment. Ted and his wife are great buddies and they don't come any better. Ted.......Thank you, but you put in your dues and did it all on your own. Congratulations on your turkey and deer. I to look forward towards the elk hunt in Nov. Jeffd.....How has the scouting coming along on Roll's jr elk hunt? Good luck! TJ
  3. I spend most of my time being alert to what's going on around me, which is hard to do since you can't see as good as from a tree stand. I keep myself in shooting position with bow on my lap or standing against my leg. Most of my situps are 15 to 20yrds. I have thought of buying one of those ipods but still haven't. I enjoy the piece and quiet and find this time to reflect back on life's expiences, time spent with family and friends, and thanking the Lord for the opportunity at hand. I just spent 10 days on this archery deer hunt totalling up close to 85 hours. I find it hard to stay all day in the blind with family and friends in camp because I enjoy spending time cooking and helping out as much as the actual hunting itself. After everyone has gone home I get servious and put in mostly all day hunts from before daylight til dark in my blind. I keep only my shooting window open with a couple netting windows cracked. Wearing black is a good idea but any dark clothing works. I take along frozen water bottles during the heat and use them to cool off my body while sitting there and always have a cold drink as they melt. Good luck to everyone on the rest of the season. TJ

    TLO "RIB ROLL"

Thanks Lance for your illustration of your process. Hopefully I can give it a try this Nov. I usually end up with many pieces as well but will try your method out next time. Thanks again for sharing some of your knowledge with us and I can't wait to put it to the test. Good luck on all your hunts this year. TJ

    Archery Antelope

Dick, what an outstanding trophy and to think you sat 8 days in a double bull in the heat is an accomplishment in itself. I to have put hours in my double bull but not out in the hot sun like you did. You have got to be one tough man to pull that off and deserve your success along with my cogratulations on a fine looking animal. TJ
  6. Congratulaions and thanks for sharing your hunt with us. How I wish someday I could pull that hunt of a lifetime off but reallize the older I get the odds are stacking against me. Keep the stories coming because that might be as close to an Alaska hunt I'll ever be on. TJ

    spotting scope troubles

I used an old bushnell spotting scope for years and found an eye patch and removing your glasses are the key to glassing for long periods of time. Eye patches can be bought at any drug store. TJ
  20. I once watched a bear get in a bee nest and watched as he rolled down the hill pawing his face. It was pretty funny! Then there was the time two girls decided to skinny dip in the same cove I was sitting on during an archery deer hunt in 3Bar Wildlife Area. Last week while scouting for my archery hunt I came across a 3 legged bull elk and never thought about a camera until it was to late. His back leg was missing but he seemed in good health and sporting a very nice rack. There have been many more stories but better left for around the camp fire. TJ

Come help raise money for kids!

Hi Kathi, you and Mark's wedding was the best. I assume he has to work to pay for that long shooter. Peg and I look forward to seeing you Thursday night. As Roy and Dale use to sing, "until we meet again". TJ

    Cool Video from Up North

Waking up this morning and sitting down with a cup of coffee, it was a great way to start the day off by logging on to my favorite web site and watching that long range video. Showing the rough, remote, and beauty of the Navajo land along with the music was really thought out. It was a fine piece of work that I really enjoyed watching. Congratulations to the hunter and everyone involved with putting that video together. Thanks for sharing coues7. TJ
  24. Thanks for sharing Lance. It's always nice to see your many pics. Some really nice animals there. TJ
