Yes, you're right Chef, it could have turned out way worse than it did. I never thought of it that way. I've been all grumpy, and thanks for the reminder. I will thank her when she wakes and start my day out on a more positive attitude. I follow up with my doctor this morning and now have some time to check out what I've been missing on cwt. Hope everyone has a great day! TJ

Everyone is making me hungry for some back strap so I will have the wife cook up a piece of my elk this week and give Clay's recipe a try. Thanks! TJ

[ TJ Thank God you are doing alright now. Sounds like Peg may have saved your life!! Thank goodness she wasn't as obsessed with this hunt as you were! Amanda Your right Amanda, thank goodness someone in this family has some sense. She has always said this hunting is going to kill me if I don't change my ways. Brent.....thanks for your concern and hopefully I can make it up to her on our spring turkey hunt. TJ

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers and especially you Ted for starting the post. Prayers are a strong healer and again thanks to everyone for their kind words. Friday was going to be my wife's very first bull hunt after many years of drawing nothing and I wasn't going to let a little stomach pain keep me from letting her hunt not happen. She tried disperately to get me to go to the hospital after arriving in Payson and hunching over with pain, thursday night, at the giant station but I told her it would go away. Peg and Dad were the tag holders and I had to much work in this to be letting them down now. Dad was up and out by daylight friday morning and Peg refused to go out cause I was up all night and getting worse. After a few hours of argueing with me she refused to go in the woods with me so we made a trip into the emergency room and within a few hours I was being operated on to remove my appendix. Saturday morning they advised us it wasn't the appendix but my upper bowel looked infected and inflamed. I tried to talk Peg into going back to camp to hunt with my brother but she wasn't budging. I had made up my mind I was getting out of there and taking her back to camp one way or another and convinced the doctors to release me by 5 that afternoon. After getting out of bed I finnally realized the elk camp wasn't going to happen and Peg had to drive me home and now I'm setting here this morning typing this. I will have to follow up with my doctor tomorrow morning here to find out what is causing all this. After all year preparing for their hunt it is just killing me sitting here at home but your thoughts, prayers, and kind words have made it help and I thank each and everyone of you. TJ

Gino, if you are going to be on Southern & Valvista then you are right in the area you need to be. The interstate 60 is one block south of southern and you can go east a couple of exits to Greenfield and make a right into the Walmart. The Sportsman is just to the west of the Walmart. Now if you want the Costco then you need to go west on the 60 past Valvista until you come to the Country Club exit and go south a couple of blocks and the Coctco will be on your left. Hope this helps. If you get lost call my house and the wife will direct you in the right direction. 480-833-1230 TJ

Thanks Mark for posting this buck and story for Jerry. I talked with him on my way back to Payson last wendsday, after dropping off my bull at home, and he was really excited and told me you did a post on his buck. I lost his call as I entered the mountains at the 4peak's area. Ran home yesterday for Thanksgiving after 3 weeks in elk camp and will be returning to scout for Peg's bull as soon as she gets her cloths packed. Had a great hunt this year and will post later. Hi to Kathi and congrats on her pig. TJ

Gino.....it never sunk into my thick head as to what you really had until I was at the truck. I'm glad you came thru it alright. I had cwt member jeffd and his son Roy in elk camp the first Sat of my hunt and they informed me their whole family had it earlier this year. Please give my apoligies again to your wife for nocking her into my cart at walmart. Now what are the chances of that happening to a cwt member. I actually hit her pretty hard and really felt bad. You looked a little rough just getting over the flu and hope you recover completely so you can get out there in Jan. Best of luck! TJ

Kathi, I knew it was just a matter of time before you shot one and a big CONGRATULATIONS from Peg and I. Who better to have on your hunt, besides Mark, than Jerry. He is a hard hunter and I can't wait to see the video. TJ

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and I would like to wish everyone and their families a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. May the hunting Gods be with you. TJ

The alarm rang at 4am and Dad and I were up and ready for our half hour quad ride followed by a half hour walk to get in our blind. We were to hunt together the first morning on a spot that I've been after a buck I named the Geritol buck. Everytime I get his picture on trail cam I get so fired up I can't sleep or eat without thinking of him. I have always been a first deer meat hunter but changed my priorities this year to pursue him or nothing else. I was unsuccessful during archery season when he turned nocturnal. After all the hard work I've put in on Geritol, Dad wanted me to shoot him, but I insisted he take him. Not knowing how many days Dad would last getting up that yearly, I was hoping he'ld score on this morning. Dad was about done in by the time I got him in the blind and so I decided at that moment to leave him alone or we would be argueing who would shoot if old Geritol would show. He asked where I was going and I said I wouldn't be far. I climbed the nearby mountain and settled in for the day over looking a nice saddle and hoping to hear a shot ring out down below. The day dragged on and after many sleeps a shot woke me and I immediately turnrd on my radio. I hear " Tom do you have a copy? I think I got one. He ran off." I said "I'll be down in 15 minutes so stay put." Now Dad hasn't shot a deer in about 15yrs or so and at 80 yrs old I don't know how many more years he has left in that worn out body of his. By the time I got to Dad he was sitting next to his deer with the biggest grin I have ever seen on anyone. I was hoping he was Old Geritol but he wasn't. It really didn't matter. You would have thought he killed the biggest deer ever. Sorry so long winded but here is Pa's trophy after a very long dry spell. One of my most memorable hunts with Dad My last day at 25deg with a little snow. Up at 4am and sitting 12 to 14hr days with nothing but tag soup this year. Can you spot the deer? Only one of three does I saw the whole hunt. Old Geritol stayed nocturnal. I'll post his picture after I harvest him in Jan. Hopeful thing!
