There's nothing wrong using a 270 for elk. Yes, there are much bigger guns but a 270 will do the job like Bill said. I like shooting my dad's 270 over my 7mm mag. because of the recoil so that is something you should consider as well. I don't own a 30-06 but the range of bullet weights is amazing. TJ

Yes, it's the second day of my deer hunt and I'm sitting here wishing my wife a very happy Birthday. If that's not dedication then I don't know what is. lol I know I've missed a few anniversaries over the years and spent many of your birthdays out hunting with the guys but this is one birthday I don't intend to miss. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! TJ ps......happy birthday also to our three other cwt members: naturegirl, SEhunter, & arg. Hope you all have a great day.

Hey this is Peggy, I'm on Tom's site since it was already up. Thanks everone for all the birthday wishes. We went to Benihana in Chandler and had a nice dinner with my sister and brother-in-law. Tom went deer hunting on sun and brought home a 2 point yesterday so guess what we're doing? Butchering if you didn't guess. Thanks again for the birthday thoughts. Peg

I will agree good honest meat cutters are worth the money. With that said, if you have the extra money then that might be the way for you to go, but I get as much satisfaction out of butchering my own meat. I have a walkin but a deer can be processed fairly easy right out of an icecest. It doesn't take much tools to proccess a deer or an elk. You will be surpised at how easy it is. TJ
